Who did Bond play on last game against the Pies, again? Can’t remember
Elliott.

Kept him to 1 goal... edit was in 2 goals. Didn't get much of it.

Max training up forward today

I'd prefer Bond to take Elliot again since he did such a stellar job on him a few weeks back. Elliot wouldn't want to see Bond walking towards him again at the start of the game. "Oh no, not him again!"
I wouldn’t be surprised if Max lines up on Josh Daicos but I think we are a better team with Bondy on Jaicos and Max on Elliott. Whilst Bondy did a good job on Elliott last time there were a few things in his favour. The wet slippery conditions and our pressure on their midfielders and defenders meant there was very little clean ball directed to their forwards. Collingwood reverted to just kicking it long to a pack* and with both teams playing a loose man in defence it was very hard for their forwards. Last week when there were a lot more one-on-one contests for the North Melbourne forwards, Hugh looked a bit out of his depth.

I do think that Bond is the best player to use on Josh Daicos. Jaicos is a high possession defender (27 disposals per match) with nearly 70% uncontested possessions. Collingwood try to find him by hand or foot and he is their preferred player to start their movement forward. He has the most uncontested possessions of any defender in the AFL and a high level of score involvements for a defender. You don’t need a superstar to stop him, you just need someone who is very disciplined. His ‘tagger’ has to run with him so there are fewer easy uncontested possessions and also stick close to him at stoppages. I think Hugh can do everything needed and he might even bob up with a goal.

Max was used as a forward tagger against Richmond but Vlastuin plays a completely different game. He only averages 19 disposals per game and only 10 uncontested possessions (compared to 19 for Jaicos). Vlastuin’s one wood is intercept possessions, he averages 7.5 per game. This is similar to Worrell and Keane who are near the top of the tree and more than Tom Stewart this year. If we play Geelong in the finals we might see Max on Stewart.

* Despite the conditions, several of the Collingwood defenders had a better disposal efficiency compared to their season average. I wonder how you can explain that?

For match fitness before the prelim.
Imho, the best preparation would be;
  • Beat Collingwood on Thursday night.
  • The Twos win on Sunday
  • Josh plays for the Twos on Sunday week (we manage his ToG)
  • Josh is then ready for the Prelim at home.

Is he eligible to play for the Twos if we go straight into the prelim?

Would the 5 day turn around be a problem even if he has managed minutes?

Yes anyone is eligible to play SANFL while we are still in AFL Finals.

Does that only apply if both teams are playing that week?

Last Saturday Dowling and Draper were not eligible for SANFL because they played AFL the previous week and the AFL team wasn’t playing.

This is also the rule for Country Leagues. I believe we could have asked permission for D & D to play SANFL but we chose not to apply?

Can't say I'm a fan of ruling Rachele out if it's precautionary. This game is for all the marbles.

Though, not a hill I'm willing to die on as it is Burgess.

Is confidence the key factor. Presumably it's recovered, but he has to be prepared to make directional changes at full pace and without second thought. Some of the stress that his various exercises have put on the joint seemed fairly severe, so structurally I'm guessing it's all good to go.

I'm trying not to think about this game too much tbo but here I am posting on this thread again. Thursday night before the game I'm gonna be a train wreck I just wish it was here already.
Anyway I don't think they'll be any surprises come selections....
Michaellanny and Pedlar in for Draper and possibly Dowling.
Go Crow's let's do this,🤪

Mason Cox possible to come in.

Is that a win for us instead of McStay? Is there a reason he hasn’t been playing? Always seemed to bob up and cause issues.

Cox is useless but one of those players for no reason capable of bobbing up with 2 goals.

Played one good game in his life and it happened to be in a prelim.

People are making a bit deal of McStay playing in the 2nds jumper at training but so did Cox. It probably doesn't mean anything unless they're going in smaller.

He is more important to them structurally though, IMO.

He can help out in the ruck - which McStay / Membrey / Mihocek are all shit at. Mihocek and McStay are too similar of players IMO.

McStay was a better matchup for Keane ..... Cox, if played deep exposes Keane's lack of height

Comments from the Collingwood board regarding treatment of Mason

Eddie said on FC the club has made the umpires well aware of the treatment may receive.
