I mean that doesn't change the fact that he looked out of his depth in the last game.

I'm not talking about selection committee in 2025.
1 game.

Still did more than Murphy in his!

Kicked more goals than Murphy for the year in his 1 game.

Oh ****, just saw the latest in for Collingwood.

No.32, Jacob Mollison

AFL really are setting this up as a grudge match. At the ground in R23, Mollison would've been sweating bullets walking off at quarter time. VERY hostile crowd.

He'd do very well to ditch the headband this week, try and fly under the radar.

Doesn't seem the type to keep a low profile...

But i hope you are right!

Elliott is good but he is no Buddy!

If a problem, I'm sure unlike stubborn Craig, we will move another defender on to him.

Bond has rarely let us down, so i don't see the similarity.
We have the option to swap bond and max in game too

Or even sub bond if he’s not getting it done (but by that time if he’s not getting it done may be too late)

Really looks like we’re one midfielder short, especially someone with class.

Been this way for a decade. Its why I have been an advocate for going all in on players like Oliver, NAS, LDU and Merrett. We just need to find that one more piece to the puzzle. Yes, dare I say missing peice?

But then does any team have that perfect team which isn't missing any pieces....?

there has been the occassional one. Hawthorn went out and got players of need, so did Sydney and Geelong. All of them found missing pieces to help them sustain a level of success.

Now is the time to throw every chip onto the table and bring in players who can help the club get the prize...not just once either. We have been throwing ourselves around, that I have no doubt.

We absolutely need another quality inside mid to replace the time that Rankine spends in the midfield (which has diminished once Rachele went down).

We have tried
  • Draper : not ready yet
  • Schoenberg : disposal is poor under pressure
  • Crouch : too slow and now retired
  • Jones : disposal is poor under pressure
  • Taylor : classy but lacks the tank

Murphy has played inside mid in the Twos but let’s not even go there.

So we either rotate Dawson, Soligo, Peatling and Berry in the 3 inside mid roles or we go to Plan B. The only other player to have spent time recently as an inside mid is Curtin. Could we, would we, should we????

That means using one of our 9 defenders on the wing for at least part of the time. Hinge? Smith? Or will we use Bondy as a tagger on Nick Daicos?

I don’t believe that Max will play forward so my money is on Hugh to play as a defensive forward on Josh Daicos. After six seasons is Nicksy going to go full on Blighty?

Throw Curtin in there and play Dowling on the wing??? We might be able to match Collingwood's and possibly Geelong's midfield without Rankine provided Soligo regains his early season and Showdown form so he will add the class with Dawson but not Brisbane's midfield even with an underdone Neale and Berry.

I'm talking current teams, Collingwood won a flag a couple years ago with quite gaping holes in that team. I think you can win at least one with some weaknesses.

Hey thats true and I dont think anyone is saying its not possible. But shouldnt the club in our position be throwing the kitchen sink at attracting an elite classy midfielder?

Lots to unpack

Seems very defense-minded / safety first with Bond + Smith in the 23 but a couple of big risks in there too.

Can Pedlar get through a full game and contribute for 4 quarters? I really like him and am glad we've picked him. Acknowledge that it is a risk though.

Was Max forward a Shane Ellen FF at Noarlunga brief glimpse, joker stashed away for later, now played just the week vs a good team when we are without Rankine + Rachele? Bold call, coach. I think the timing is right.

Last season many of us thought Bond might be able to find a niche role in defence. It hasn't happened but I reckon our coaches have been looking for ways to include him. The planets have aligned late in the season. I like it. He could be our Nick Smith in waiting.

A shame about Dowling. I wonder what it is we don't rate about him? Seems a composed, effective, impactful player every time he takes the field. Is he a bit... nice? We maybe prefer the streetfight of Pedlar.

Question
Will Collingwood dutifully park Josh Daicos across half back for Max to forward tag him? I suspect they won't. We showed our hand against them last time. Against Gold Coast when Collingwood had a poor first half they shifted J Daicos into the midfield after half time and he lit it up

I reckon J Daicos starts in the middle and we instead see Pendles or even N Daicos start across half back.

What do we do? Who do we target?
With Billy i just think its a matter of defence. He got torn up a bit against North, and its likely cost him a spot.

Going to be a big night for Pedlar, with Rachele closing in on a return. It could likely be his last chance to stake a claim.
