Maybe it'd be easier to have Rob actually play for us instead of the shit he has served up since he got a contract
Yeah I never understand how we win hit outs but not clearances. First use through ruck taps is pretty old school language though, I doubt any of the current players even knows what the ruck rover position is.

I mean our gameplan isn't dependent on winning clearance but we can't get pantsed in the ruck like we did last week or have Rob be a non entity around the ground like the week before.

If we are going to win, we need the bigfella to stand up. He is a big lump of a lad who should be able to throw his size around a bit (within reason) but him hitting our mids with his taps and taking a few intercept marks will be crucial

His game against Cameron, who isn't an elite ruckman, the other week was pathetic.

Needs a rocket up his ass and maybe he's been running on fumes a bit, whatever it is we need better.

Against the Pies I'd be happy if ROB doesn't allow all those ruck frees Cameron plays for and negates his intercept marking in our forward 50.

He will beat Cameron everywhere else.

I really should stop listening to Vic media.

Now the narrative is how the AFL bean counters are pissed no Collingwood in home final week 1. Literally mentioning personal kpis.

So I could look at this 2 ways....we win fair and square and the VFL can watch the Pies at home next week.

Or, the AFL stitches up one, maybe two MCG prelims by Saturday morning week.
I used to think this was mostly an SA point of view, the anti-SA thing.

But now I live in Vic and have met a lot of people who feel very strongly that it was better in the old days before the national competition. They are nostalgic for the suburban grounds and traditional rivalries. They see us as illegitimate, unwelcome. Interlopers.

Just like we get mad about unfair northern academy advantages making it harder for us to win a flag, they see any success by ‘interstaters’ as a kick in the guts because it makes it harder for their clubs to win the prize they have been fighting for since long before we came along.

I have spoken to two people just in the last week, both aged over 50, one a Tigers fan, and the other a Dees fan. They told me they’d rather Collingwood win than us, for simple Victorian parochial reasons. Any VIC side, no matter how hated, over any SA side. They have never bought into a national competition even 40 years later.

This attitude is probably more common among older Vics who grew up with the VFL. No doubt including some powerful ppl at Vic clubs, and maybe even at the AFL itself.

A simple response to those individuals is without the non-Vic sides being introduced, your competition was on the brink of collapse with numerous Vic sides insolvent. The dollars generated by going national saved those Vic sides.

I've seen the opposite side. When I was watching the 2017 GF in the pub at Merimbula, I sat next to Essendon supporters whose hatred of Richmond clearly overrode anything else and they barracked strongly for us.

That’s true, but it won’t win anyone over. It’s a vibes and feelings thing.

true, I’m not saying it is universal or even majority view, just that there’s plenty of it around

FB Worrell Keane Bond
HB Milera Murray Laird
C Cumming Dawson Curtin
HF Keays Thilthorpe Neale-Bullen
F Pedlar Walker Fogarty
R O'Brien Berry Soligo
I Peatling Michalanney Taylor Hinge
Sub Smith

IN: Michalanney, Pedlar
OUT: Draper, Dowling

I think they're going to have to give Soligo a bit more time forward than usual and work in Taylor and others in to the centre bounce. Maybe Curtin or Cumming more on the ball and Hinge and Michalanney on to the wings at stages. Rankine is a huge loss and will need to be covered by the sum of all parts.

Yep that's my experience too.

I had a lot of Collingwood fans after the GF when I was walking back to the hotel telling me they were sorry we lost because they wanted to see us flog Richmond.

Feels like we've been having to win the big games while soundly beaten in the clearances. Losing Rankine who was our 3rd best clearance player for the year wont help that either. Probably wouldn't hurt to pinch hit Laird though the mid this thurs to help our numbers. If we win or break even in clearances i think it would be hard to lose.

Looking at the clearance stats in recent games we've gone -14 vs pies, -8 vs dogs, -9 vs Hawks and -21 vs North 💀 and won all those games.

I watched murphy closely all game and he did sweet **** all. Josh Daicos wouldn't even know his name.

Murph's review meeting didn't go too well I'm afraid

Davis: So what you do is you push up to the stoppages and you let your man drop off?

Murphy: That... that's right

Davis: Well, then I gotta ask, why can't the midfielders just compete at the stoppages themselves and we keep even numbers ahead of the ball, huh?

Murphy: Well, uh, uh, uh because, uh inside midfielders are not good at delivering the ball.

Davis: So you physically deliver the ball to the forwards?

Murphy: Well, no, the wingmen and half backs do that or, or, or the mids when they spread from the contest.

Davis: Then you must physically help them win the ball at the stoppage?

Murphy: Well.... no. Yeah, I mean, sometimes.

Davis: Well, what would you say you do here?

Murphy: Well, look, I already told you. I push up to the goddam stoppages to help the mids! I am good at keeping shape around the contest! I have leadership skills! Can't you understand that?! What the hell is wrong with you people?!

Yeah they probably won't put Laird in the middle, because they probably don't want to lose the game.

There’s a thing on the abc today where various stats gurus from sqiggle weigh in on footy tipping. One of them said that losing a gun player is worth less than you’d think - a few points, up to a goal.

Pedlar has been almost invisible apart from a good first half against the Eagles. It’s a little worrying that we’ve got no option but to seriously consider selecting him. I’d prefer Dowling, at least we can be confident that he’ll get though the game.
