Yeah I've made this comment before but there's a reason barely any of our wings have an impact and its structure. Cumming hasn't suddenly lost the ability to find the ball he did at GWS.

We don't use the wings often for generating run and carry and changing lanes. We mostly skip them and go straight to Thilly, Dawson Fog or Tex and if the nearby wing gets a touch in this play its more of a happy accident for them. Collingwood clearly worked this out.

Even Curtin only impacts as we sometimes use him as a get out of jail kick.
There only needs to be a hint of pressure around the ball and it gets worse

We become very predictable

Yeah, I've found it frustrating especially lately

He screams quality to me. Everything he does is clean, smart player, uses the ball well, good in a contest when needed, good decision maker

I think this is it. We notice errors more than anything else. He is extremely clean with the ball, doesn't F*** up much and as such seems safe.

The opposite of Jones or any of those number generator players

He isnt the opposite of Jones.

He is a worse performing version of 2023 Jones. In 2023 Jones averaged more kicks, handballs, tackles, clearances, R50's, Score Involvements and intercepts all whilst having a better DE%.

So why do we not get the ball in his hands more often?

I think this is the FOG discussion. You need to demand it. You need to earn it. You need to win it. He doesn't.

Why isn't it a priority? Surely it's the specific reason we got him.

Thats the question. Why spend all that money on a position we dont prioritize? Is it because we have a finite number of players wanting to come and play for us so we have to grab whoever we can?

Because our other wing and hbf options absolutely blow and it would matter if Sholl or Jones or Laird get the ball 25 times per game it makes no difference to the result it seems strange

We need Milera, Dawson, Cumming, Curtin to be carving up on the outside but instead they are left doing grunt work and we use our wings for structure more than damage

We don't use our wings. Curtin has played very well a couple of times and is the outlier. But why invest to bring in blokes to play a dead position?

So what are your thoughts?

He's no good?

Or he is good and...?

He’s got the tools, he’s just not a very good wingman. Not every good half back is a good wingman. Once Dan arrived we should have given Dowling a crack to see if he can play there. Whether Cumming goes to half back or the 2s would be the next decision. But reality is that we’ve settled for a very average performer in that role.

It's quite possible list management brought him in thinking he'd play half back given Smith was essentially finished last year

You are correct 1970crow - criticizing Isaac Cumming is a no go on this board.

Although I am curious as to how all these laughing jokers are feeling after last night considering they laughed at the above post:

Peter Doherty

How you lads feeling? Happy with Isaac Cumming and his 1 kick 2nd half?

Peter Doherty followed it up with a laugh emoji for the 2nd time!!! Great work Peter.

Tell me more about how good Cumming has been.
