Wow Saints getting hammered what does this say about our bunch ?

On SM-G981B using BigFooty.com mobile app
It says Richmond must be really good, and any team that beat them must be really really good and I assume it'd be impossible for any team to somehow be good enough to beat that team.

I assume you can figure out who is who

I am extremely disappointed in how short our lineup is against the Pies. Do we only have 15 talls??. Simmo is the smartest stupid coach I have ever seen. He is taking tall timber to another level. Feel sorry for the guy, he is as good as his IQ allows him to be. I can't stop laughing at this selection. is Simmo having marriage issues?? taking it out on the boys and the club?? Surely his superior is asking questions about this selection if they have an iota of footy sense. Talk about the knee-jerk reaction. I wondered how calm he was post-Saints game, it was a little odd, he should have been fuming and now we know why. This has disaster written all over it boys and girls.

Loving the big cheesy melts...whatcha all gonna do if we win?
Just saying....always leave yourself an exit, before wetting your pants?
You ask and I cannot help but deliver.
Collingwood have been so bad and their side is so decimated after the salary cap clean out that under normal circumstances we should win comfortably. At home it should be a thrashing.

Even with the worst selection effort I have ever seen, and with our injury outs, and going stupidly tall and slow, and selecting a team minus virtually all capable of exerting pressure, we should still win (this week, not next week with the same team). But I cannot see a thrashing or even a big 10 goal win unless the Pies absolutely shite the bed.

I think we'll win a <20 point game. When at home vs. what the Pies have done so far this year it should be 60+ and if we had a full team, party time.

If we lose however... it will be an absolute black mark of disgrace on the MC.

**** me, some of you honestly hate the Eagles so much. These must have been an absolutely shocking 35 years for you all.

We’ve picked an absurdly tall team, almost to the point of parody. Can’t do anything about it now. Chill out and enjoy the ride. If we lose you’re all the smartest people in the room, and if we win there’s no such thing as going in ‘too tall’ which should please everyone. Win-win.

You're always trying to be the voice of reason, but admit it, even you're a bit pissed at the team we've named

It’s a bizarre choice which is why I came on here to chat about it, but the wave after wave of tears and people on suicide alert over our team being a bit tall broke me faster than any team selection did.

I’m not happy with the team selection. It’s really tall, and I had Winder and Jones as outs but that was before I knew Ryan and Petch were the latest victims of our shocking injury run.

And yet...chill out campaigners. Go back and read some of the embarrassing shit that was being posted in 2018, with the benefit of knowing how that finished.

Everyone is so desperate to skip to the end. 17 teams lose the flag each year, and if following the one team that wins it is the entire extent of joy you can find in football then you’re in for an absolutely torrid time.

People need to enjoy the journey more. Maybe we’ll win. Maybe we won’t. Maybe Liam Ryan will take mark of the year. Maybe he’ll be out for the season.

90% of fanbases would trade our last 30, 20, 10 and 5 years for theirs. People need to lose the blinkers and just enjoy the ride.

Honestly....sure.

It beats reading people threatening to jump off a bridge because the sum total of the players’ heights from the football team they picked is a bit high for their liking.

I get where you're coming from but I think you're over-stating things a bit.
I honestly think most of the melts on here are a bit like us booing at the game, just part of the show and a bit of fun.

I'm not too sure about all these dramatic hyperbole and accusations towards team, coaches and MC...all seems very emotional. It's just footy, if we win - great! If we lose - tough t***ies, we move on. I hate losing but it's not the end of the world. I understand lots of people are very emotionally invested in their team and winning makes them feel like a winner also. All sorts of crack banter comes out of the woodwork. I love a win as much as the next supporter, but if we lose I try to cope with it via humour and a violent outburst of swearing and cursing! Anyway those rollercoaster rollovers known as The Eagles better not lose this one or I'll ask for a refund on my silly black Eagles cap, the lucky one I wear watching the game; the one that hasn't been very lucky since I bought it!?

Some of these kids don't even know know what tall is.....(nicnat, cox, lycett)

I love a good melt but I always apply the standard - if you’re going to melt, make it obviously funny. Nothing better than kicking back and enjoying some other team board’s melt, or even a good Eagles melt in hindsight.

Some of these feel very sincere which is genuinely sad because being a footy fan will rarely get better than it is for Eagles fans right now, over the last few years and ultimately throughout our entire history.

Two weeks ago we were miserable that we didn’t rack up the percentage against a team that had spent 20 straight weeks on top of the ladder. Then we choked in laughable fashion to the Saints. Nobody knows what’s around the corner. Enjoy the good stuff as it happens, or you might have a genuinely shitty thing happen the next week and wish you’d spent more time enjoying the good stuff. You can’t win or lose the Premiership in Round 5, so just enjoy the ride and see what happens.

This seems like an unbelievably huge endorsement of the 2021 West Coast Eagles, that they could withstand all of those things and you’d still expect a win. And yet it seems like you’ll also be disappointed if we don’t thump the Pies? And if we do it will be because Collingwood were insipid?

Not exactly leaving yourself a lot of room to enjoy the game tomorrow.

Agree with the sentiment that eagles fans have been pretty spoilt, and also tend to be a bit whiney.

Flags are bloody tough to win and am honestly just stoked this group got one because otherwise it'd be a massive disappointment.

I do think that this list has massively underachieved the past few years just based on the talent we have. Was hoping this year was the year they turn it around with a deep September run and probably 'breakeven' with what most would have predicted the squad capable of at the end of 2018.

Fact of the matter is the Eagles are set up to succeed (2 team football state, concessions upon entering the league, big fanbase, good finances, good infrastructure). Sometimes I cant help but feel the dissatisfaction with this list has a lot to do with that. And, honestly, its pretty justified.

To me, Collingwood is the team closest to NM in where they are at. They ruined their list by total mismanagement of the salary cap, mis-judging player payments, contracts and how to front-load/back-load deals. The forced clean out of players was very poor and the moving on of players who wanted to stay was just horribly mis-managed.

If we can't beat that mob at home then it's Derryn Hinch time...shame, shame, shame.

So yes, it can be argued that I'm not expecting a classic of high skills, end to end, error-free, high scoring football.

So far this year I have enjoyed the two wins. Gold Coast was a bit rusty and Port was very impressive in how we approached the game.
I was disappointed with the result re the doggies, but enjoyed the match (until the poor kick to the 3 on 1 with 5 to go) due to the way we played it.
The Saints game I did not enjoy. Even from Q1. Excluding the first few minutes we let them back in too easily to hit the front, and despite leading on the scoreboard mid through Q3, it always felt like we were chasing the game. Even at 30+ points up we were 40+ possessions down, behind in contested ball, inside 50s, marks and pretty well everything but goals. It didn't feel comfortable, it didn't look comfortable and the scoreboard did not match the game I was watching.
As for when we stopped like we'd been shot. No I did not enjoy that.

So, hopefully I'm wrong, but I can see a poor game coming up between two teams not setting the world on fire. Thank eff we are at home.

And regarding your earlier comment...

I loved all of 2018. Part of it was the continuous exceeding of expectations, but a lot of it was the way we stacked the team with young guys. I think we debuted more than anyone, and I loved watching Allen, Ryan, Rioli and so on make their mark. I want us to do the same again in 2021.
Faze out the fading, former solid contributors (the 15-22 guys) and bring in the guys who, if given a chance, may be the next 10+ years guys. Play with freedom, abandonment, passion and desire. Not this unwilling to enter the contest rubbish we saw last week.
