We can keep flogging the Petrenko horse as much as we like but he's never going to be a quality small forward or midfielder. It's small defender or AFL career over for Petrenko.

So Mackay didn't play for South this week because he was held back as our emergency, what's the bet he comes straight back in without an SANFL game?

He played last week. 29 possessions.

Held back this week as an emergency and its only a 5 day break.

Hartigan in, Talia thrown forward.

Grigg, Lyons in.

Riley looked a leg break not an ankle sprain, watching him come off ankle sprains they usually can at least put a little weight on it, he couldn't put any on it.

I agree with Hartigan. I have been calling for him to be promoted for some time now. After all he was drafted for our defence. I think and McKay will be recalled and if Crouch is rested then Griggs might get his place.

Fellas, just curious, has Talia taken a step or two back this year? Just from what ive seen he seems to be struggling.

Keen on your thoughts, obviously you see more of him then I do.

His game on the weekend was his worst by far for the season. Other than that, he's been one of the few players we have who can be happy with the effort he's put in so far this year.

Hendo to still play the same role
Mackay to play outside winger only and stay away from any situation where he can be flicked off the ball
Wright to stay forward
VB to stay as close to Pendles as possible
Midfielders to work harder defensively
More one on one or a tighter zone
More run, carry and creativity and less bomb and hope

I saw Johnston had a few hitouts today in the SANFL game. Wonder if he'll come in for Smack and pinch hit in the ruck in the forward 50 with Jenkins backing up Sauce in the centre? Probably not, but I can't recall him getting any hitouts in the past in his SANFL games.

Question for those baffled with selection:

Would you be happy if Grigg gets a run, but Lyons doesn't?

Lets say the only changes are:

Out: Riley, Smack

In: Grigg, Hartigan

How would you feel?
Outraged because Jaensch holds his spot

In: Dean Bailey? Is he back this week? Grigg is monte and left footer as well.

Dean Bailey? His suspension expires after round 16 so Round 17 is his first game back.

As for players:

Out: Riley (poor bugger), McKernan (bowling ball sharp), Jaensch (incompetent)

In: McKay, Grigg, Lyon

Time to get some mileage into Grigg and Lyons for next year, because this year is stuffed. Kerridge too, when his form demands it, which is not right now.

If he's struggled at all it's because our midfield isn't doing it's job. Has hardly missed a beat. Will be top 5 in the B&F.

Yep Talia's been playing extremely well, he and Rutten both, we've barely had a key forward do any damage at all to us, except perhaps Kennedy on the weekend with his 4. It's largely been the midfielders and half forwards that are hurting us.

Couple of those DT could do nothing about either. Hes one of the least of our worries.

Two certain outs this week, one unfortunate, one stupid.

OUT: Riley (inj), McKernan (Susp), Jaensch

IN: Grigg, Graham, Tambling or Lyons

Unless anyone can think of someone better than Graham to bring in? We could always elevate Dowdell.

Unless the SANFL site is busted, Mackay didn't even play, while a read of the stats suggests all of Grigg, Lyons and Tambling were BOG for their sides, Graham was 'solid' and Hartigan quiet.
Won't matter one iota. This game is a guaranteed loss.

Out
McKernan --- Well Freddy B he finally looked like rewarding you and others by actually showing something then why soft players often get suspended as they try to get aggressive but have no idea how to . But did prove to me a stupid and individual player by his action . Get him back after 3 to get better trade for.
Riley --- Bad luck mate but cant see be kept on list now but although as great attitude and endevour but not enough talent for AFL.
Jaensch -- No not quite up to it and really thought would do well up forward but hard for any forwad with our great Bickley structure.
Vince -- In doubt due to injury . Played better but so so so lazy and now doesnt finish off as well anymore.
In
Mackay -- 1st in as already basically decided by not allowing to play on Sunday plus has a GP in pocket . Panthers loved his game and attitude where learnt all new teammates name on game day .

Petrenko --- He also will pull out his GP from pocket .
Personally would not bring in.
But will get in and Sando and his puppet Bicks will highlight his great game yesterday .
Forgetting of course that Lyons does that every week and when finally gets opportunity in AFL gets more possessions in 1 week in than Pets in 3 and gets them under pressure.

Grigg --- Will get his opportunity after earning it . Might have been in before if Bass had let him play SANFL more often last year. Good luck Mitch.

Possibles
Hartigan --- Has everything we need but as they lack talls up forward might wait as they will be keen to try to win to say still could get in.

Lyons -- Should be in but really should not been out .
If I was him I would be really p------ as Sando and Puppet talk out everyone else as close but Lyons as have fogotten his name . With Thommo currently a liability with stupid frees , lazy defence of forward running mids and massive turnovers and poor vision . He is obvious player to take on this clearance role leaving Danger , Couch etc etc .open possession to get decent entries.
How many times did you see him on Sat. and others turn or look backwards when in stopped or moving possession rather than either move ball on forward or at the least look forward first.

LJ ---wont be this week but hope shows some form and adds something different to our forward structure.
Callinan --- Tambling ---- No No --- no point .
See the mascot got best of Eagles reserves so might be in team befor Lyons yet.

Before the year is out I'd love to see Petrenko finally given an opportunity down back.

To achieve this, we could give Laird a small forward/rotating mid role. Normally I'd want to settle the young player down in a role he is being extremely successful at (small defender) but this kid is special. I've got no doubt he will success in any position (that is suitable for his height) and will slot back into defence as first choice defender if we need to end the experiment. As a small forward he has Petrenko's pace and tackling but adds composure, skill, brains...could become a real wildcard.

IN: Lyons, Grigg, Mackay, Petrenko/Hartigan (depending on height required in the 22 for match-ups).
OUT: S Thompson (rest), Jaensch, Riley (:( hope he stays on list), McKernan

B: Otten, Rutten, Brown
HB: Smith, Talia, Henderson (swing forward 2nd half Hunter style)
C: Sloane, Dangerfield, Mackay
HF: Crouch, Lynch, Laird
F: Wright, Porplyzia, Jenkins
1R: Jacobs, van Berlo, Douglas
Int: Lyons, Vince, Petrenko (7th defender)
Sub: Grigg (get a taste, then full game next week)

Surely Johnston should get a crack, he may have a bad attitude but far out, he is 1 of the best KPF in the SANFL. He only just came back from a knee injury but he deserves a crack with tex & McKernan out. Still remember when we got him from Sydney for Tony Armstrong & every one carried how we won out on that trade...... Armstrong is playing frequent games for the swans the past 2 years & Johnston has only played a couple. Lets give him a go
