Changes vs Collingwood

I don't trust Garner to come in against the quality of Collingwood. Drew has been defensively very good.
Not sure Garner is big enough to replace a Lienert or Jonas. Unless you are thinking Bonner or DBJ but despite Garner being a much stronger pure defender still not sure he is offering the run out of defence the former 2 do ?
Happy to be corrected. Paging Tibbs

Hi everyone, congrats on a solid start to the season.

Just want to know what the story is with Broadbent? I have noticed that he isn't on the injury list, and not a lot mentioned about him in the media. Is he a chance of returning in the near future?

Thanks, and good luck for this game and the rest of the season!

If Houston was unavailable for whatever reason hypothetically, Garner would be the most like for like. Bonner, Byrne-Jones and Lienert are too different.
I think if we lost Jonas and Houston we'd bring Broady in before Garner. He was a bit rusty on the weekend, but he's gotta be close to fit enough by now to serve the role of backup.

Trengove is in ripping form. Could he replace Robbie as a tough skilled nippsie in the forward line?

No Jonas for De Goey... Damn. if pies go quickly down the corridor like North did but with better precision this will get ugly. We can't allow teams to score multiple unanswered goals at beginning of games we have a habit of this against good sides. The 5 quick unanswered goals that north kicked against us last week was because they finally decided to play down the corridor and opened us up. Collingwood would of watched that closely. Without a general down back like Jonas this will be a mountain to climb.

The 5 unanswered goals North kicked in the last was because we put the cue in the rack with the game won. It happens a lot, with a lot of teams.

Guys.

Drew will not be dropped for Atley or Trengove.

Drew is superior to both of those players.

I really want Billy to play this week and Robbie makes way for that, however, I also believe that Amon may come back on as well.

Ken will also be tempted to pick Motlop, despite his average form on the weekend.

Therefore, Drew may lose his spot, unless they decide to drop Bonner or DBJ. With Lienert in, westhoff playing wing / defense we could cover those defenders.

But they have been good too!!

I reckon Jonas misses another though and they will look to keep Lienert in the team to help v Collingwood's forwards.

What I would look to do....

Out Gray
In Frampton

Tempted to also drop one of Lienert or Bonner to get Amon in to the team but am hesitant.

What will likely happen....

Out Gray, Drew

In Amon, Motlop
What exactly makes you think Drew will be omitted?

He's a little bit on the outer due to a decline in pace and had some ankle issues last year. He's been alright at SANFL level this year but I think he'll have to bide his time for a while like Jack Trengove before getting a game.

Trengove is not a forward and is still completing his time trial. When it's the middle of winter and we are playing in the rain and mud his deficiencies in pace won't be glaring. Under the roof of Marvel he'd be a liability, with the difference in speed between SANFL and AFL.

If you are worried about pace alone... I would bet that he is faster than Rockliff, Houston, Wines and probably both Gray brothers.
As for him not finishing his time trial yet... yeah, nah!

But, I wouldn’t bring him in for Robbie.

I wouldn't melt if Tengove was selected, he's dam earnt it if he is.

Now we know it's almost guaranteed to be one change, the obvious option is either Amon or Farrell.

Amon deserves it on form and improves the side the most. Will require a slight reshuffle of roles, but that'll probably work at Marvel, plus Sam Gray already spent too much time at FF last week, so that will continue regardless. Farrell slots directly into a forward role and brings more speed, which is also very useful.

So considering that, it'll be Motlop in, because he's the biggest name, and that's all that matters to Ken.

Lienert to stay in for Jonas - easy
Now the replacement for Robbie - I would love the replacement to be Billy, but that won’t happen.
So the obvious one for like for like is Motlop. Plays on the half forward flank, can have a run through the centre, and can do the flashy party tricks.
I can see it happening and it will send all the wrong messages down the line!

You'd be wrong.

It'll be Motlop for Gray and that's it. Winning side, we wouldn't select anyone other than the Motlop because we are sackless, even though his performances have been mediocre at best.
