That's not as silly as it sounds. Big Mal could kick a couple, be anchored to the square would make Wakelin play on him, Brown to Lucus and stretch them for Lloyd.
 
Why doesnt Big Mal just go out in a blaze of glory and drop Thomas and Didak like a sack of sh...

Alistair Lynch style, except land them. ;)

The risk of him doing, say, a Lloyd-type hamstring is much greater. We need an injury free run for the "Baby Bombers 09" flag.;)

What is to gain by playing him?

It wouldn't be prudent injury management to put a player that hasn't played 1 senior game for the year or a reserves game straight into the seniors.

We have a list decimated by injuries and the last thing we need to do is to take risks.

How do you think the supporters would take it if he rips his hammy, tears a quad etc etc.

And here i was thinking he'd played the first 2 games of the season ;)

Then why are we trying to fast-track Mcveigh?
 
IN: Fletcher, Magin, Hooker/Hislop/Pears
OUT: Neagle, Monfries, Mal

I really can't see us playing Mal if Fletch comes back in leaving us with three tall defenders, especially against Collingwood who have a small set-up (really killed us last time).

I would prefer to see one of Pears and Hislop come in but i'm not sure if they're 100% fit and may need a run in the two's.

Sorry he's been out that long i forgot about those games :D

McVeigh has said he wants too get back quickly but i haven't seen anyone else say it.

They won't take risks, he will play when he is ready.

He has also played a fair chunk of the season and doesn't have a history of injuries.

Hooker deserves his chance to make his debut this week after having a pretty consistent 5 weeks in the VFL.

Williams is the forgotton player. Magin was named as an emerg on Sat before him, which tells me that Williams is along way off from playing AFL. His Bendigo form has been fair and he did arrive at the club with an injury. May just need plenty of time.

Geez Bendigo are going to struggle this week.

People must realise that michael was injured and only played cause fletcher is out.

Laycock should play the rest of the season (unless he gets injured), he is slowly getting better and needs the games, he is only 22.

One more bad week then we will be ok.

The following week against melbourne we will get back Welsh, Lovett, dempsey, Hislop, Monfries Hislop and Hocking. (the midfield of the future - with stants, watson, lonergan)
 
I'd be quite happy if we didn't see Dempsey, Gumbleton, Hislop, Hocking, Myers, Neagle, Houli and Pears for the rest of the season, let them get over their injuries and back to 150% fitness before they play any sort of football. It has been shown that even when their back to "100%" their bodies are still not right and they go down. These players are absolute guns, and will (hopefully) play huge parts in our season in 2009. The last thing we want for these kids careers, their confidence, their bodies, is to rush them back playing football. With these lads it's slow and steady wins the race. Let them rest. As for this weeks ins and outs,

IN: Magin, Fletcher
OUT: Monfries (inj), Neagle (inj)

Mixed injury news today with football's star new tagger, Andrew Welsh, expected to return to the Essendon line-up this Saturday to play Collingwood but emerging key forward, Jay Neagle, likely to miss the rest of the season.

Team manager, David Calthorpe, said Welsh hasn't suffered any headaches since his knock to the head and took part in a football clinic for kids the day after the game.

"We would be very surprised if he isn't given the all clear after seeing the doctor and completing training on Wednesday," Calthorpe said.

In further good news Angus Monfries only has minor ligament damage in his foot and has been cleared of any bone damage so he is still some chance to play this week.

"We will see how he goes this week and he will have to pass a fitness test but he hasn't been ruled out," Calthorpe said.

The hard luck story is twenty-year-old Neagle who looks set to miss the remainder of the season with a fractured ankle.

"He saw a surgeon last night and we will have a full diagnosis later today," Calthorpe said.

"We believe he will probably have surgery which will end his season but we are still waiting for confirmation."

Agreed, seems like the perfect opportunity to give Charters a run. Cant hurt we have had him on the list for two years now might as well see what he has to offer at the top level, if nothing, so be it, one thing I am certain of is he deserves a spot in front of Daniher(been out too long to come straight back in), Hooker(saw Hooker play a few weeks ago and he dosn't look half ready for the AFL yet) and Dick(talented but his mind is never on the job).

no not charters.. dont chuck him in he would get absolutely destroyed.. if he played on collingwoods worst forward he would have 10 kicked on him. sorry for the guy but imo he will never play afl football.. doesnt have the speed, composure or decision making ability under pressure...

Wear Swan like a glove Welshy, keep him out of the game so we can get our other speedy youngsters around you like Jetta & Reimers to run all over Collingwood, their midfield and their team as a whole lacks speed. If you can shut down their no.1 midfielder, I'm sure we will have a good crack at victory..! Listening Welshy..? :D
