You obviously dont know how bad Chris Bryan is, and we will only need 1 ruckman anyway. Leigh Brown is in career best form, will burn you.

Garland out for 4-6
Looks like he's right.

We've gone in too tall, we're going to get smashed by their HFF's.

That said, I'd like to see Martin given a go at FF. Might as well try it, he has shown he can take a mark. We certainly won't need him in the back half.

Don't take too much notice of positions, when was the last time the 18 named on a Thursday actually took the field at the start of the game? Doesn't happen. However, besides my corcerns over his kicking action, I think Martin could be a bit of a wildcard up forward. Even if he can provide a solid contest for Jetta, Davey etc.

Petterd must play down back this game in my opinion, that backline is too tall.

Bartram to Pendlebury and hopefully do the same to Pendlebury as he did to Harvey but with some attacking of his own would be excellent.
I'd love to have Bartram on a few people.

As it stands though, its hard to see him not going to one of Didak, Davis or Thomas.

Great to see the four first gamers hold their spot. Garland disappointing but Martin not a bad replacement.
Sylvia should be chomping at the bit and if not could seriously be looked at as trade bait! When you've got the ability, what more motivation do you need this week, he's been battered from pillar to post by his coach and his peers. C'mon Col! I get the feeling we are a great chance this week, we just play well against the pies, and if we can improve on last weeks errors...

Yeah I'm not reading into that line up one bit. Bailey obviously trying to keep his cards close to his chest, although I think it's fairly obvious who will play where.

FB: Cheney - Warnock - Frawley
HB: Rivers - Martin - Bartram
C: Bruce - McLean - Green
HF: Sylvia - Miller - Davey
FF: Petterd - Johnson - Bate
R: Spencer - McDonald - Jones

INT: Moloney, Jetta, Bennell, Morton

That would be a lot closer than the listed side.

Wonder why we have gone tall down back?

Small/Medium Defender Injury List
Whelan - calf, might play for Casey but probably 2 weeks from seniors
Strauss - Ankle - 1 week
Grimes - stress fractures in back 3 at minimum
Bell - Broken thumb 3 weeks
Garland - Foot?
McNamara - not sure if he is still on our list!

Plus other options
Buckley - Groin unknown?
Wheatley - playing for Casey maybe

Big chance for Bennell and Cheney to show us what they've got. Also Frawley must now play on Medhurst. I wouldn't tag Pendlebury with Bartram, I'd make him responsible for Davis or Didak. I'd just make McDonald responsible for Pendlebury, he is a good player but if we get on top through in the midfield which we need to do to win we should be okay anyway.

Also I'd leave Stef Martin as a defender, he should go okay on Leigh Brown, with Warnock to Cloke and Rivers to Anthony or vice versa. Rivers will need a big game.

The only other option I'd suggest is Sylvia off a back flank. I really didn't mind what I saw from him doing it last year and since he hasn't really earnt his selection up forward whats wrong with playing him down back.

Big Spence gets a great second chance against an average tap ruckman in Fraser (not a complete average player but average tap ruckman) and Leigh Brown (what do I even describe him as).

I'm happy to go along with that.

Sorry about that lads...done a full team match up on footy magnets but the link obviously didnt work haha.

B: Jamie Bennell, Matthew Warnock, Jared Rivers
HB: James Frawley, Jared Rivers, Kyle Cheney
C: James Mcdonald, Cameron Bruce, Clint Bartram
HF: Neville Jetta, Brad Miller, Aaron Davey
F: Colin Sylvia, Stefan Martin, Brad Green
Foll: Jake Spencer, Brent Moloney, Brock McLean
I/C: Cale Morton, Nathan Jones, Ricky Petterd, Matthew Bate

KEY MATCH UP

Jared Rivers/Trav Cloke= Jared has to shut trav out of the game..simple as that.

Clint Bartram/Alan Didak= IMO Didak his the pies most dangerous player, if Bartram can do the same as what he did to Harvey with Didak, he will have very little effect on the game, a big plus for the dees.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Col Sylvia: I dont know why but Col always plays well against the pies, still remember the piece of play a couple of years back when he smashed the pies players into the turf with the ball under his arm.

Kyle Cheney: Will back up his debut match with another stellar performance in the back half. Would love to see him matched up with Thomas if he plays half forward coz he is as soft as melted butter and cheney would smash him.

Brent Moloney: Wow, what a full pre-season can do to a bloke. Beamer had is best game in the red and blue last week IMO and I am quitely confident he will pass the 30 possesions mark in this weeks game. With all the signs he has shown over the preseason on and off the field, no wonder he is in the leadership group.

On 'ology or 'land there's a post by someone claiming to be an acquaintance of Garland that the injury is serious enough for LTI status. It seems to have very much come out of the blue.
I heard that he was out "for a number of weeks" with stress fracture in his foot.

The 4-6 weeks was a bit of a guesstimate on my behalf. Looks like it could actually be a lot longer than that.

Guys i dont no why people keep suggesting warnock play on cloke... hes 2 slow and much more settled at full back and brown is the perfect match for him. i dont think rivers will get the job either cos he is much better at third man up so think he'll take anthony. big test frawls because he probably matchs up best on anthony but without our main man in garland think he'l have to go 2 cloke...

i also agree with bartram 2 pendelberry... hes easily their most important player and bartram is our best tagger so rekon it just makes sense... as good as junior has been just think hes 2 slow for someone like pendelberry..

mcdonald may well play from the back line on didak... that is if he doesnt go 2 swan... may be a big ask but its either him or cheney and think cheney will go 2 medhurst... that leaves bennel 4 davis cos no way should beamer been in the back six...

also i wouldnt be surprised to see pettard in the back six or else as a tagger through the centre or even as a shut down foward on shaw...

either way we have to kick goals this week so bate to half foward and give stef a crack at full foward

I don't know whether you are underrating the pace of Warnock, or overrating the pace of Cloke, but in both respects you are wrong. Warnock isn't a lumbering dinosaur, he is reasonably quick and is more than a solid match-up for Cloke, who is hardly Matthew Pavlich. That said I agree that warnock is more suited to a deeper full back position, and whenever Cloke plays out of the goal square he is the man to go to him, with Rivers to get the job up the field.

For the record, a sack of fertilizer is the perfect matchup for leigh brown.
