Prediction Changes vs Dees round 19

As I remember it Melbourne was bigger and stronger than us last time and our smaller players got brushed aside a fair bit. Lots of broken tackles.

So I'm wondering whether Hannan was preferred to McNeil this week because he has a much bigger physique.

Now I'm not saying Hannan is the perfect role model for this but at 27 years, 190cm and 88kg he's definitely a physical upgrade on 19yo McNeil (184cm, 78kg). He has also averaged >3 tackles a game this year - that's a fair bit more than McNeil (<2).


I could also suggest that Schache (201cm, 94kg) is a physical upgrade on the bloke he's replacing (Crozier: 187, 81) ... but that might be seen as a provocation.

You can joke about it being a cunning selection gambit now, but it won't be so fun after a loss. If it rains as expected, I would be staggered if any of Schache, Hannan, Ugle-Hagan or Bruce have any impact, no matter what role they're deployed in.

Incompetent is a strong word for the man who was instrumental in our first premiership in 62 years.

To be the best in a league of very good teams you have to be bold and proactive. Long may you melt!

For those who watched vfl, Schache was rather competent playing down back as a floating interceptor (albeit from limited time down back). May be what is in store for him. Either way it’s his last chance to impress so I’m expecting he gives it his all. Clearly the MC hasn’t totally given up on him, despite some posters being convinced his papers have been stamped.

I think Schache is in the side for flexibility. Forward pressure and speed has been the name of the game for quite a few years. Do we have that on a wide open MCG? Our ball moment was too slow and wide last time, maybe the extra height is for going direct? Time will tell.

Maybe you’re right. I still struggle to see how bringing him in as key defender at AFL level after barely 2 quarters across two seperate games with Footscray is a good idea though. Like everyone else I’m very intrigued to see what actually unfolds

I think this is actually a great idea....yes its late in the year but could he do any worse than some of the other guys we have tried. One never knows....fingers crossed!

I thought it was the horrendous kicks across our defensive 50 that cost us more than anything.

We didn't actually go long down the wings and were frightened by May and Lever intercepting, so instead we kicked the terrible switch kicks that got us in trouble.

I just can’t see May and Lever getting easy intercepts with Naughton and JUH up front. Should be a great battle.

The AFL probably reckon they can get through the fixture faster if they put two games on at once.

Put 72 players and 6 umpires on the ground at once. One match is played with a red ball and the other with a yellow one.

Ground capacity is not an issue while there’s a COVID lockout.

Consider he has played forward alot, that is somewhere between 'above average' and 'elite' for a forward.
Note: Garcia is rated 'elite' for pressure acts, and Vandermeer was the no 1 in the AFL for repeat sprints.

Why does everyone think we've completely changed our line up in 2021 going with a combination of McNeill/Hannan/Scott/Roarke/JJ/VDM forward?
