I get the forecast conditions aren't suited to tall forwards but its more about not allowing our backline to dominate in the air

When you have guys like May and Lever, particularly Lever, who we like to match up on smaller opponent so he can come off them and take intercept marks you need to create a contest against them instead of letting them fly for the ball solo.

Ugle Hagan isn't a traditional key though, he plays more like Fritta.
Plus we have Jackson, Brown and Tmac. They might shuffle someone back

not that baffling to me, pretty straight forward what bevo is thinking I reckon, he wants the ball brought to ground in the forward line coz he thinks we're suspect on the deck. Reckon Schache will play as a pseudo defender and just attempt to stop May and Lever from intercept marking.

Ugle Hagan and Hannan can play below their knees so their forward line is not as tall as it may seem on paper.

Yeah this is exactly what Clarkson did to curtail the influence of Lever and May.

Well, one of 2 things happen here.

Either the template to beat our defensive structure is there, and adhered to by the dogs.

Or our players/coaches have identified this, rectify it and we find out about our blokes a bit more.

I'm looking forward to it either way. Every challenge our boys face set them up better for September. If they can handle it or not is another thing.

Yes I agree. HUGE Jackson fan more then anything. But his output and numbers has been down the last few weeks and looking at his heat map his spending more time higher up the ground and around the ball it seems. When he's up forward he's had minimal impact.

His around the ground stuff is fantastic for a big man, but he's looked tired (which is understandable). I would have rested him this week and brought in a Melksham personally. Need him freshened for finals.

The issue with that is who splits the ruck duties with Gawn?

If Jackson went out for a rest it would have to be Weid who comes in

I think with that dogs forwardline it will be an absolute scrap and 75+ is a winning score. Gawn will play back half in general play even more than normal to try and free up one of May/Lever.

Bevo doing exactly what he should. Make our talls accountable. The stronger teams have yet to try that strategy really, so let's see how it goes.

True test of where we're at right here. We win and we keep that perfect record against top teams which is an important confidence booster over finals aspirants. We lose and those cracks start getting bigger and faith that this team will hold up in finals starts to really get wobbly.

Our formline is bloody weird. Been bog average for 7 weeks but we've still managed to get the job done against better sides. Hard to predict this one. Another draw perhaps. Any side ever had 2 draws in 2 weeks??

Yep, I think this is the go. They've clearly gone with a strategy to nullify May and Lever. Dropping Gawn back for large chunks of the game might be the key to freeing them back up.

Need the mids to work harder defensively as well. We're weaker at ground level in the backline and when May and Lever are taken out of it, it exposes Salem, Rivers and Pig - who are all great players, but they aren't Jetta-like lockdown specialists. Well maybe Pig can be sometimes.

Trac and Oliver to work it forward, Harmes in a shut down roll and Viney and Sparrow dedicated to defensively running.

He has lost 14 One v one contests for the year- same as may, less than allir, McKay, Henderson, Taylor, Andrews, weitering, Hartigan, Howard and Collins. Flip that into a percentage and he's very comparable to the above mentioned players.

we do play Lever on smaller blokes most of the time, that's probably why, teams haven't really tried to make him play on a tall and be accountable.

Schache is one of the least competitive players in a genuine 1v1 in the air for his height in the league.

He's like Jack Watts-lite in that regard.

Dogs will have better luck playing Hannan on Lever if they want someone to just bring the ball to ground and potentially expose him on the ground
