Ridiculous. Thompson is our leading goal kicker, a reliable shot on goal and probably our best contested marking player. PLUS he's coming back from a knee reconstruction.I spoke to one if the coaches today and Hanson has "shown signs in the last two weeks" Reading between the lines they have not been happy with him as yet.
Thompson was very very poor tonight. They tried to hide him everywhere in the 3rd qtr when he should have been on the bench. 5 goals came directly from his man. Sinclair or Gibbo should be in for him.
Thomas got some junk kicks hanging out on the wing by himself but was useless in the forward line. His kicking still sucks but he did take an overhead mark without dropping his head. Maybe he is on the way up but I doubt it very much.
Flash has to spend more time up the field as this is when he is at his best.
Thommo is slow and unfit. If Eddie hadn't broken his leg I would drop him. I'd like to see him start on the bench and play Josh Smith at FF. The guy is a decent unit and has lost 11kg this pre-season. The reason he was overlooked in the draft was because he was too fat but he's done the work!! Thommo is not the future (nor the present) so lets see what the kid has.
Wundke and Obst to be considered for promotion if Smith does not stand up.

Wundke and Obst are both rookie listed so Smith would have to literally not be able to stand up.
Promoted as in promoted on to the senior list.
If you're looking at Wells for reasons why we lost last night, then you are looking in the wrong direction. He was pretty good...
Exactly.
They can't just promote a player through form. Considering we have four players on the long-term injury list I would expect one of them to get a run. Just not at the expense of Smith.
I agree, give Smith a good run of matches and let's see what he can do.
It's just that i'd like some back up if Smith isn't presently up to it, and his confidence is getting shot to pieces.
Yeah Billy, but the point of my arguments is that even if Smith never gets it going, Obst and Wundke aren't prospects to take his spot because they are rookie listed. A rookie can not be promoted to the core senior side to replace a player low on form, only if they are approved to replace a player that is ruled out for the year through injury can they be promoted.

Obst? Wundke?
Come on. I think we are we should make some changes and bring in some quality young fellas into fringe positions, but 1st year talls from a rookie aint going to solve our problems (which aren't forward or back anyway).
Midfield and flankers. Urquhart, Riggio, Jesse Smith, Ross. All good kicks, all talented.
I thought he was very ordinary and racked up easy touches in the last quarter when the game was over.
I know that mate.
Didn't you read this:
Once that is done we have the option of doing this:
Re - The hypothetically promoted Obst/Wundke.
Apologies if I wasn't clear enough.
What if Josh Smith goes down or starts getting flogged? Who will hold down CHF?
I agree with all that, but that's not what we are talking about in this instance.
In: Adams, Tarrant
Out: Simpson, Thompson
Did I miss the game where Josh Smith held down CHF (or in position) at this level?
Jones, Thompson, Grant, Campbell, Thomas. If we need another medium type, McMahon. If we want another tall who can mark the footy, Hansen. Or play Hamish forward for more than 10 seconds a season.
Obst and Wundke? Geez.
In: JW Smith, Gibson, Urquhart, Hansen
Out: Brown, Watt, Power, Josh Smith
Then will have a team something like this
B: Pratt, Firrito, Gibson
HB: JW Smith, Petrie, Urquhart
C: Lower, Harvey, Harding
HF: Thomas, Hansen, Jones
FF: Hale, N.Thompson, Grant
RR: McIntosh, Simpson, Rawlings
INT: Campbell, Harris, Wells, S.Thompson
Something like that. Doesn't it look so much more............talented?
Power is just an average footballer. Urquhart might be an exceptional one.
To me, a coach that is gunning to be number 1 down the track and not just trying to scratch out a "good" loss makes that decision. Thompson did it. Clarkson sure as shit did it.
Having Power there and not playing Urquhart … shows a lack of long term planning, it shows a "near enough" attitude [and an]… inability to develop young midfielders.
I say drop Wells but it will not happen.
Smith, Gibson, Swallow, Sinclair should be in the running.
Watt, Brown, Thompson possible outs.
First of all, would people stop comparing Josh Smith (a first gamer) to Thommo? That is ridiculous!
Gibbo and JWS are automatic ins. I would also add Urquhart and McMahon.
So who goes out?
Brownie, S Thompson, Power and Hale.
That gives Josh Smith the opportunity he deserves and keeps two talls in the forwards. Josh can also play in the ruck as he proved against Adelaide in the last quarter. He may not get every hitout, but he then competes for the ball far better than Hale and is much more mobile around the ground.
Adding Urquhart, JWS, and McMahon give us a much better rotation through the midfield. We can add Campbell and even Turtle to that rotation and we can constantly keep speed in there to give us more than Wells that can run and carry!
McMahon is versatile and can be played back and forward as well. We need to add versatility to the playing group.
The other possible switch (from me, not saying it will happen), is Swallow in and Harris out. Harro just isn't up to his own standard from the past couple of seasons.
Depending on match ups, and if you really wanted to make a bunch of changes to shake people up, you could bring Hansen in for Watt. Watt doesn't use his body effectively anyway, so you add a player with a huge motor and again, more versatility.
