No way can you play masten, gaff, sheed and duggan - thats 4 wingers for 2 wings.

We need more strength over the ball, bring in College for Sheed as he is a poor kick (cf. Duggan), Darling and Ellis to come back after the bye
Sheed is a winger?

Sheed is a good kick when he lowers his eyes. And if you were dropping him for poor foot skills why would you bring in a butcher like Colledge?

Sheed may have butchered it a couple of times but so did Shuey, Selwood as well as others. The worst part of the match was the lack of a player behind the contest in the forward line when we were blindly bombing it long in the last quarter. There were many times when the north player just sat behind the pack, picked off the easy ball and rebounded. We played stupid football, if anyone has to go back to the WAFL it should be scooter, he's not match fit and get's caught with the ball often. Others get caught but they manage to get rid of the ball, he does not! Maybe when he's fit enough he comes back, but that moment is not now.

Probably an unpopular opinion but i'd just keep Darling out until after the bye.

in - Lycett,Ellis
out - Sinclair, Nelson

People are wanting so many changes based just off one bad game. You need more than that.

Sinclair - His last 2 weeks were great. He needs more than 1 bad game to warrant Lycett coming back. Lycett had several poor games.
Sheed - Apart from his disposal, was there anything else to whinge about? Got it 12 times and had 3 tackles in 1 qtr. Selwood had it 10 times all game.
Hill - Been in career best form, first time he's gone goalless since he's been back in the side. And apparently he's on the chopping block?

The only players who should come into contention for being omitted this week are Selwood, Fraser (because of darling) and Nelson (because of Ellis)

Anyone else would be pulling the trigger too soon.

nelson hasn't disgraced himself so far but a healthy ellis is a far better option if we're looking for a best 22 every week.

would rather give darling an extra week in wafl but no doubt he'll come in for mcinnes shortly.

wouldn't be surprised to see no changes though. most have been in good form before today's schmozzle.

Why did Simpson take Nelson out for Sheed Surely there was a better option, Our backline looked unsettled with Nelson out, I would of thought a tall would of got the vest, Lest be honest what a shit game we could of been playing anyone on the day and could of went either way, Still think we are a better team than the Roos just couldn't use the ball to chop them up in that weather, it was definitely a game we can learn from tho, Doesn't matter what the weather long bombs don't win you games of footy why couldn't they find a target outside 50 and had a shot from there ? It's not like anyone couldn't make the distance in that wind, Then at least we could of set up the press if it was a behind, Played some silly football really !

nelson has to go. he was a liability yesterday and is overdue for a spell in the twos. bring in ellis or bennell for him.

darling to hopefully come back, i guess for mcginness.

scooter should have been given some wafl games, he was garbage yesterday. wouldnt hurt to send him back to the twos

Changes should be focussed on who will make us better against the Drug Rats, who is deserving at WAFL and who needs to go back to the WAFL.

Few AFL teams have to perform in the conditions that we played in on Sunday. There were loads of basic mistakes but it does not make us a bad team nor do we need to wield the axe as an emotional disappointment to losing. We showed good signs but a couple of school boy football mistakes late Q3 and Q4 found us coming up short. Let us not over react.

There were some good performance in the WAFL and finally we are seeing some pressure for places.
Darling returned with 5 but nervous that he is under done.
Colledge is still a viable option for Selwood as he looked a little out of sorts.
Ellis has been good the last 2 weeks and has his hand up high.
Lycett appears to be a reasonable option but not someone who is demanding selection.

There were a couple of structural weaknesses exposed against Norf.
1. Lack of a genuine small forward - I lost count of the times kicking with the wind that we lacked a crumbing forward at the back of the contest. The trio of Hill/LeCras/Cripps were found wanting in positioning too many times. There is a real opportunity for Newman here but he needs to show more at WAFL so not the right answer. My view is that the balance is better with Hill or Cripps and not Hill and Cripps.
2. Second week in a row that the combined Schofield/McGovern has not given me confidence in defence against a tall opposition forward. Our defence is doing really well but neither McGovern of Schofield know how to kill off a marking contest. McGovern is still taking some fantastic marks but has not picked up no the spoiling need as a defender. I have been calling out for Barrass to be given time and I think it is time. He also reduces the need for Yeo in defence.
3. A partner for JK. Seeing McInnes explode for 5 minutes in the 2nd quarter gave me hope but only briefly. The structures have been working up front but did not hold up on a small and wind swept day in Tassie. If we can bring in Barrass as a KPD, that would enable us to use McGovern as a forward/back swing player and I see the balance improved with Darling in for McInnes with Mitts alternating.
4. Don't get the calls for Nelson to be dropped. Thought he did a reasonable job on Thomas and loved the way he pushed it up to Thomas. Thomas had more impact in the introduction of the new head tackle rule than he did on the field, on field was pretty much aligned with Hill/LeCras/Cripps.
5. Loved the centre clearance additions of Yeo/Sheedy/Duggan this year but still cringe when I see us go in with Selwood/Priddis/Gaff as a combination. Tough to measure properly as NicNat was against an in-form ruckman and in the windy conditions, Nic was far less effective.

In Barrass Ellis Darling (I would wait but Simmo not likely)
Out Selwood McInnes Butler (not form age and body needing some protection)

I think now is the perfect time to give College a go over Selwood, it's now or never for College, I'd like to see him given a full go and full game.

S Selwood needs match fitness and a lot of work in the twos. I'd leave him there for a good month before considering him, stupid to let him play after a long lay off with injury. Pretty much was a player down all day with him playing this week.

It's McInnes.

Disagree with Nelson being a liability, he's been playing well and shows poise beyond his years, but he's the only one I can see going out for Ellis.

Out: Nelson
In: Ellis

Selwood to sub. Please Simmo, never play Yeo back ever again.

You don't see much of Nelson because he's a lock down defender. He's also providing a bit of run here and there from the back line but you would have to have been watching a different game to me if you thought he was garbage. I saw him manhandle Waite and Petrie a few times.

He must have been injured otherwise I can't understand why we took him out instead of McIness.. a structure issue ? I don't think Mac was even on the ground in that last quarter

Starting to get flashbacks of Heppell getting off the chain last year when Hutchings couldn't keep up with him. Still wouldn't have anyone to bring in to run with him, so hopefully he keeps having relatively quiet games. At the very least Winderlich won't be back to bully us.
Im getting flash backs of Cripps burning up Heppell :D

Ellis/ Selwood to Sub
If we make these changes and Scooter is the sub, I'll be very happy. There was a good comment above from Butler about Selwood's return reducing Yeo's attendance at centre bounces....this makes me so angry

It's not so much dropping Nelson for poor form, but rather because he has Ellis' spot. And anyone who has seen Ellis in the WAFL knows that he is AFL quality and we can't leave him there. Nelson will get his shot again.

And speaking of AFL quality...Jack Darling 5 goals in what I imagine was somewhat limited time on ground? We are not in a position to give him a couple more weeks in the WAFL if the reality is he could come in now, albeit perhaps with his tank at 80-90% (but, lets be honest he's not going to get to 100% after missing an entire preseason). We absolutely cannot afford to drop this game against the dons, that would do terrible things for our confidence, and we therefore need our best on the park.

Pretty spot on. No disrespect to Nelson but he arguably has that role that Ellis will play. More so team balance than poor performance.

I didn't see Ellis's game against the Black Ducks but I see your point clearly. Was only in at WAFL level to get some quality minutes there which weren't sub affected. Now that his shown his ready to play he comes back in, maybe Selwood is the opposite rushed him back to quickly and his game has suffered

Can't see them dropping Selwood, but he should be. I'd also like to wait until after the bye to bring Darling back, but I don't think they'll wait.

In: Darling, Ellis
Out: McInnes, Nelson

Hopefully Scooter to sub.

We have a couple of interesting conundrums at the moment that will need to be worked out.

1. Long term you can't play priddis, selwood and sheed together in the same side, it just doesn't work.
2. For my mind it's either butler or ellis down back, im not sure we can play both. Long term it's probably neither of them but for now I believe it should be on who's form is better or the only reason to play them both at the same time is because nelson needs a break or his form is poor.

Out: Mcinnes
In: Darling

Sheed into the 21.
Selwood to sub.

Ins:
Bennell (The eagles haven't lost when he's been in the side all year - he's our new Ash Hansen)

Out:
Nelson (rested - he's playing well, but could do with a couple of weeks to freshen up)

Ellis more likely to come in than Bennell, but a stat is a stat.
Darling to come back in after the bye

Main to come into the EP league team
