Junk time goals against bad teams then falling apart against decent opposition. Only been going on for 9 years. Pretty simple really if you don't put your head over the football your a coward. If you disappear against good teams you are a frontrunner. If you don't run up the field to support your teammates you are lazy.
I'd say most of Hill's goals have been at important stages in games. Despite ghosting out now and then (less so this season), he's still a natural forward who can capitalise on half-chances, and that's more to say than for any small forward we've tried to play in years (with LeCras now moving up the ground). Hopefully we'll see Newman develop this side of his game further but Hill is doing his job very well.

In: Ellis, Darling
Out: Nelson, McInnes

Might expose us for match fitness to bring in 2 blokes with little practice, but Darling can contribute and build for a big 2nd half of the year whilst Ellis can shore up our disposal and run off the back flanks. Nelson unlucky, McInnes can go and dominate WAFL.

Could potentially see Sheed with the vest again and perhaps Duggan given a rest with the 6-day break.

His goals against Port in Adelaide hardly junk time.
The goal in wet vs Gold Coast early before the game had broken open hardly junk time.
The almost chase down of Steven Hill when no other Eagle was going vs Fremantle. That's supporting your teammates.

He has had one bad game this year. The hate for him is crazy.

Ellis said himself he expects to play full WAFL minutes this week before earning a recall, so purely based on that I wouldnt expect him back this week? Think he would do well as a sub, though.

I think this is going to be one of those times where reasoning isn't going to get anywhere and we'll end up going in circles, but I'll try once or twice.

WB: Did not play
Carlton: Did not play
Fremantle: 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter
Brisbane: 3rd, 2x 4th
GWS: 1st x2 (Eagles 2nd and 4th), 2nd and 4th
Port: 1st (Eagles 2nd), 3rd (down 2 when he kicked it, gave us the lead we never gave back)
GC: 1st (Eagles 2nd), 3rd, 4th
St Kilda: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Geelong: 3rd x 2
North: No goals

By quarter: 1st - 25%, 2nd - 15%, 3rd - 35%, 4th - 25%
Pretty even spread, hardly junktime stuff and was our 2nd goal scorer three consecutive weeks. Also gave us a 58-54 lead against Port that we then never gave back.

As for playing up the field I really question how you can watch the Eagles week in and week out and suggest he hasn't been taking a ridiculous amount of marks either from the kick in or beyond the wing. He's also averaging a career high in tackles so not sure where 'supporting your teammates' comes into it. He was bad last game, absolutely, was very poor, but he's undeniably in career best form, list clogger is a massive call. Lot of up the field highlights in here:

Anybody worried about Daniher?

I hope Schoey finds his mojo again...been a bit off since he seems to have had a bit more license to try and do something offensively.
Think the whole backline just had a dead average game last week. He had a career low in touches against Geelong with 3 so wasn't trying to be overly attacking there. Got monstered by Hawkins but everyone seemed to agree at the time that that's just what's going to happen with a few of the hulking forwards, of which there aren't too many. I think he'll get back into it. He wasn't the worst either against North, love him to bits but McGovern was really bad and guys who've been reliable this year like Butler and Nelson also had a few really low points. Wellingham was about it for backline consistency. Schoey will be right.

The crappy thing about playing in Tassie is that you have to fly back the next week. Basically we travel every week, it just depends on whether it's 1-2 days before the game or 5-6, either way I bet it affects our match readiness. :(

Not if he (and Carlisle) keep spraying their shots everywhere. Of course one of them will now do a Scott Lucas on us.

Schofield definitely needs help. He'll be a nervous wreck by the end of the season, having to play on gorillas every week. Maybe Sinclair spends more time down back and we let Nicnat go one out against the awful Bellchambers.

They are talking up Jab Watson playing this w/e. Limber up your booing voices people.
Our crowd is going to cop it from the media after this game. We should prepare a media statement to express the reasons why we are booing a "champion"....he and his crew are drug cheats/liars at worst and at best did something stupid and didn't ask the right questions of his club at the time.

Cheat or ignorant and stupid....either way he deserves a thunderous round of booing.

I'd want to boo simply because of the media outrage last time.

What's with all the bulk changes?

We lost to a much more experienced side in VFL conditions.
Half our players have never played a game of AFL in conditions like that.
A whole heap have probally never been to Taz let alone played at Blunstone.
Six guys have bearly played a whole season.

Seeing Yeo in the backline was the only thing I would change. Just stop it already Simpson it's not funny.
If Darling comes in so be it, but it would have to be for McInnes who still deserves his spot.
Don't want to go to tall against the Bombers.

Selwood gets another game to show something. If he doesn't then Colledge or Hutchings should come in for the must win Richmond game.

If he can't last full games, he may as well stop playing. Cannot use him in finals.
Are we going to drop Hill or LeCras who have been 2 of our best players this year on a less than ideal performance (neither were terrible)? No way. And no way we should. And we certainly shouldn't be doing it on the back of an ok game from a rookie list player coming back from injury.

I hope Newman builds a case over half a season for East Perth so we have to pick him, but I doubt he'll get looked at before that.
I didn't say that did I. I simply commented on your post that he was "miles away". If, for example Hill or Cripps was injured I would have no problem in bringing Newman in to replace them. Your comment stated that he was not up to it. I simply said he was close and should it be necessary he could do it..I do think however I hope that would not occur and if it did, it wouldn't happen for a week or two so Newman could regain some more touch. Shhheessh!

I think now is the perfect time to give College a go over Selwood, it's now or never for College, I'd like to see him given a full go and full game.

S Selwood needs match fitness and a lot of work in the twos. I'd leave him there for a good month before considering him, stupid to let him play after a long lay off with injury. Pretty much was a player down all day with him playing this week.
I don't often agree with you but I do in this instance. He has played good game sin the past but and was worth a go but there are better players available at the moment and he shouldn't be given an armchair ride.

Yeah right. The hardest position to play is a key forward. Kennedy is one of the best and you want to make him into a half back flanke...which, by the way, is one of the easiest positions to play. You're right, it does sound crazy...probably because it is,.

Have to start somewhere i suppose, Nelson is a liability in the back half, anyone notice his effort in the goal square in the 3rd quarter. Swallow on his knees and Nelson stands there as if he was a soccer goalie, Swallow handballs to a team mate goal. How about a tackle Nelson.
Ellis or Bennell in
Nelson reminds me of Staker crab.
Obviously you haven't played this game. Nelson was in a two in one position and he couldn't tackle either as they didn't have the ball. He guared the guy on his knees who couldn't kick th goal but the guy managed to get the ball past him to the other guy who kicked the goal.....I doubt anybody could have done better let alone a first year player at 19 years of age. Jeeesuus I lose patience some times!

at some point simpson is going to have make the hard call on players like rosa and selwood

he seems like the passive type, hope he has it in him

if not, it will ultimately cost him his job

No, an error's an error no matter who does it, the claim was he'd only made one error. Like Kennedy when he dropped that lace out pass from Priddis in the last quarter.
Actually no. Sheed is in his second year playing in terrible conditions, coming on as a sub in the last quarter under pressure with the wind a big factor and the ball went out on the full. Your idol, Priddis, an experienced player makes multiple errors under no pressure and you won't look at criticism of him. Different strokes obviously

Bring in darling . Leave McInness in the forward line and put Sinclair back in defence on Daniher .
Great match up . Both tall , gangly , unco , wreaked chinned weird looking blokes !
Much more interesting than fyfe vs Danger .
