So happy for Josh! I watched the first half of the Peel game and was super impressed with him. He was in everything and seemed to have time and poise. I think he is ready. What impressed me most was I couldn't tell if he was a lefty or right footer.
I just hope he is not overawed by the occasion.
This selection tells the whole group - if you work hard and have form you will get a game regardless of reputation.
Cudos to the match committee.

Good points and well made.

Yet they revert back to our initial disagreement about Morabito as a CHF.

I still contend that a large lad with a big tank, sticky hands and a nice kick doesn't have to be a beast in the air to be effective.

Taberner can crash a pack, albeit not like a Carey, and take a pack grab but that isn't his strength.

Nor is it the way of modern day footy. We all love to see it yet sadly it is becoming all too rare.

Ha ha - you've somehow managed to twist my own thinking around - I walked myself into that one !!
Yeh, Mora could do it if we were 3 or 4 weeks down the track, but I stand by the bet - he wouldn't be CHF, he'd be third in line like how Mayne plays with Pav and Clarke/Sandi/gumby around.
But yeh, seems like our pattern of thinking is the same - we need to be strong on the ground equally (if not better) than in the air.
Walters and Mayne gave us this plus goals, plus marking power at times.

Big shoes to fill whoever rolls through there, hope Tabs proves me wrong - rather see Slyvia have a crack at it personally

Simpson and Taberner - babies. Five team changes vs zero team changes. This is looking ugly on paper. Will be one of our best recent wins if we can pull it off.
Won't outwit them will have to outplay them;Big 4 qtrs coming up.
Newbies will channel the spirit of Haze the younger and blitz the friggen thing. Are they eligible for rising stars??

I think both Tabs and Josh should be eligible
Blitz you say?

Oops, Forgot - yeh, agree. And probably easier to find/draft/develop....

My money is on Apeness to do this and have presence in the air. reckon he'll come on nicely in 2 years

Ballard strikes me as the next one to get a league game since he is developing so much faster and doesn't seem overawed with how Ross likes his players to play the game .

Hope everyone has realistic expectations of Simpson's upcoming game. Hes a second year player playing his second game, I'd be highly surprised if he does much. Gonna cop it big time here, but I can't see Taberner doing anything. He needs to take a defender away from Pavlich, but the defenders aren't going to be worried about a skinny unproven forward. Not having a go at Tabs, but he'll get out muscled with ease.

I'm tipping Sandi and Clark will start on the field with Taberner as sub.

I dunno. Simpson seems like a perfect sub.

The damage he did in the second quarter against the Swans was outstanding. 5 goal assists, or score assists maybe, in a single quarter i think. Good tackling pressure too.

Not confident he can run out a whole game of AFL yet, but I'm sure his pace, creativity and kicking could present the dons with some difficulties if he comes in near the end of the third. Could help tip the balance in our favour if the game is a tight one.

Tabs, sandi and Clarke does seem a bit tall though, so I can see where you're coming from.

Ballard is a tank and looks like he can play. I really like the look of Grey and Wood also. Wood could be anything if he puts some weight on.
Wood is a development player but as you say once he can put some meat on those bones .
My only fear is that unlike Fyfe he doesn't have a special feature to his game .
He has a OK kick and good endurance but his marking is nothing special and he doesn't win many one on one contests when the ball is on the ground or in a pack so TBH ,I think he will struggle to make it
Grey on the other hand is a smaller version of Clancee .He does lack height but makes up for it in football nous .very good under pressure but we need him to develop his tank
Duffy once he gets over the shoulder has a lot of upside . During both the preseason and NAB Cup games showed when he is not injured he can play .
Vandeleur has all the makings of a really good player and versatile as well .He could be the swing man we need in a couple of years .
Tanner Smith before his injury was doing OK but I need to see more of him before making a call .
I know we need him to step up and he has talent .Others have praised his work but he needs to develop a hell of a lot more before he could take over from Elvis or Johnson

Wood actually has a decent pair of hands overhead. quite sticky. Not in Fyfe's league but not many are. He's a very intelligent player and very natural which is why I rate him at this point. Remains to be seen if he can fill out to be strong enough for the big time but its a bit early to be writing him off yet.

Yeah hasn't showed it at WAFL level yet (confidence) but his U/18 tapes show him as a terrific contested mark. Mind you his size at his age gives him a distinct advantage in that age group. Nevertheless he knows how to clunk a mark.

I like him a lot.

Bit early to make that call donchyathink?

I would say that he is more than capable in the air considering his size and has a very good kick on him albeit lacking penetration also owing to his size at this stage.

The kid has a bit of X factor around the goals as well.

You would have seen it when you were sitting on the bench (you may have even made the call ;) ) but at one stage against EP he was standing the resting Eagles ruckman, (Sinclair or the other oaf) and gave him at least 40cm, and the lad did very well.

Apparently there is medication available for your condition.

How about that champ* Silvagni lining up for Peel, huh?

*not really.

I reckon Clarke will come in for Hannath. We need to exploit their lack of a genuine ruckman. Clarke is more mobile and athletic than Hannath.
