Same here. Not to mention Taberner and Apeness. Only playing 1 tall forward is just not going to work as a long term option. I really don't see why Lyon persists with it. One of these guys should be playing each week until Kepler/Gumbleton are available.

Long way off from even being considered mate.

And that's a problem for Lyon. He seems to be pretty rigid in his rules on time into legs, even when we clearly need a certain type of player.

We left out Clarke and Sylvia for this game when we clearly needed them. We're going to leave Morabito out for 8 weeks. Lyon will likely not consider Apeness until next year at the earliest despite our desperate need for a 2nd key forward. Why not just give him a crack and see how he goes? I don't get it.

I'd love to know the actual reasoning behind leaving these guys out. I know Lyon is a stickler for fitness KPIs but surely those considerations shouldn't trump picking a balanced team.

Pretty much like everyone else ...

IN: Clarke, Sylvia, Dawson, Clancee
OUT: Hannath, Walters (inj), Ibbotson (inj), Sheridan

Unfortunately, I'm not sure we can make the personnel much stronger. Due to further injuries, we're still going to have to carry a few of the passengers from the Hawthorn game. Going to just need a better effort.

I'd keep Crozier in to play forward in place of Walters. Doesn't make much difference who is dropped out of Sheridan/Suban/Neale. At least Neale wins a bit more ball, and maybe Suban will play one of his odd good games.

Fyfe and Barlow out against a tall midfield with Watson, Goddard, Myers, Heppell, etc ... very concerning. Clancee and Sylvia are a bit shorter, but at least they have the strength to compete.

Suma was asked pre-match whether we had any forwards waiting in the wings besides Pav and Gumbleton. He said Apeness would hopefully be ready in 1 or 2 years. Taberner wasn't even mentioned. Giving games to players who aren't ready to play AFL is not going to achieve anything. And I fail to see what our lack of tall forwards has to do with the coach.

Taberner played a few games last year, so he's clearly ready. He's had a hip injury so I guess wasn't considered for this game but is picked to play for Peel tomorrow.

They spoke to Suma 10 minutes before the match so the question wasn't in reference to this game, obviously. The question was in reference to our lack of tall forwards generally. If Taberner was "clearly ready" save for his hip injury, Suma would have said so.

He was gifted games, Pav was out and so were Griffin/Sandi. We had to play him, not we wanted to. Taberner is a long way off. Can only hope Keplar/Griffin/Gumby show something in the forward line.

There's obviously a reason why Hannath keeps getting picked and Clarke doesn't. But oil beef hooked if I know what it is.

A good performance tomorrow for Peel could see a few players up for selection. If Sylvia doesn't blitz it then I reckon he's in trouble.
Has to be because of how Clarke got injured nothing else makes sense.

Bugger....

I wanted Apeness or Alex Pearce or even Tabs to get a game. I dont like it one bit when Pav at the end of his career is our only Key forward.

Saw Alex Pearce rattling tins before last weeks game and I have to say he is quite a few years off, will be rag dolled so badly he may suffer spinal damage if he plays a senior game in the near future.

Get him on the 'Fyfe' diet. Never seen a player put on so much muscle so quickly. Sheridan & Crozier don't look like they've put on too much weight from pre season, get them on the diet too.

Why Silvagni? We get Dawson back, Johnson and mcpharlin are still there.

If you mean the forward, clarke plays there quite well, better than Hannath.

Hes useless forward. Are you serious? Clarke is a better ruckman and better around the ground, taking pack marks etc, but Hannath is a better forward. Clarke should be in over Hannath, but no way is Clarke a better forward than him.

It's obvious to me, that we need another tall forward. Just as a foil really, for pav. Throw in the possibility Mayne is injured, and maybe Walters too....it's looking a little grim up front.

So it won't be Tabs, who is coming off a hip injury. Won't be Apeness, who has played 1 WAFL game, also coming off knee re-con (?), Morabito clearly won't play (people really need to get this).... Griffin, no, Keplar, also no.....So who's left?

It just has to be Silvagni, doesn't it? The very least to provide a target up front. I'm not bothering with the outs, as it's too early. So my ins would have to be Silvagni, Dawson, Sylvia (in the guts, please) Clarke and Clancee.

If Walters is out I don't think you can justify dropping Crozier, don't really have too many natural small forwards on our list and Crozier is one of those. "Didn't do enough for mine" doesn't really cut it IMO, that description fits most of the team including many of our senior players.

Looks like tomorrow's WAFL game gets even bigger, lots of intriguing sub-contests with players vying for the same spots.

I do like your changes though and would have Sylvia in for Suban instead of Crozier. Hate to say this but I'm just not sure what Suban's role in the side is, problem is he may feel the same way.

I don't reckon Crozier is an exact like for like with Walters so can justify it IMO. Most teams don't play 2 small forwards like us so to try and make crozier fit that type just doesn't cut it. I see him as a true HFF type and TBH, just don't think he cuts it against men yet. He gets pushed off his line, smashed in body on body contests and hasn't learnt to utilise his strengths against men to his full capacity. Has a bright future but Sylvia is proven in this role you can't ignore his previous history at melbourne and have our kids in front of him when we got found out for physicality - our game plan relies on this and the kids went missing when it was needed last night.
"Didn't do enough" means ICBF explaining why I don't think he retains his spot ;)

Re suban, he seems to be a little one paced at the moment. Whenever he hits a contest he seems to be inviting the tackle but then doesn't manage to get his arms free or get the ball out ala barlow, fyfe etc. I'm not sure what his tactic is exactly but it doesn't seem to be working. He wasn't really sighted much in the first half when the chips were down either. Another who retains his spot by default you could say....

Seeing that the whole team was slow and unable to compete with their opponents last night suggested to me that they hadn't recovered from a wet weather slog after 6 days. Once they had scored 3 goals in the blink of an eye without us even touching it I knew we were gone.

The intensity that we showed in the first two rounds was sadly not there. We were slow, lethargic and our skills were non-existent. In fact Melbourne would have beaten us last night.

Gosh, even Sandi, Mundy and Mzungu were down on form and I don't think I have seen Luke McPharlin play a worse game. Chris Mayne is having the season from hell so far and although Pav kicked 4 goals, he is still down on form.

Johnson and Spurr were garbage as well, in fact Johnson was clearly playing injured, as was Michael Walters.

Based on last nights form 3/4's of the team should be dropped, but that won't happen.

I was really sad to see players given an opportunity to prove themselves and cement their place in the side and yet not even give their opponent a challenge or put up a fight.

This was worse than playing the Hawks and Geelong last year, as we deliberately sent our B side over to pay those games.

It's hard to say who comes in until after Peel play this afternoon, but I am hoping that Sylvia and Zac Clarke come in, as well as Clancee Pearce for Ibbo.

Coming up against Essendon who got within 3 points of Hawthorn is going to be really tough so thank god we have a 8 day break to prepare.

I agree, I think it's time to just put Sylvia in the forward line as a big body. Even if his fitness is not quite there his strength still is. And one thing he has that others don't is a lot of AFL experience. So oppositions will watch out for him with one of their defenders. I think if we don't have the personnel, experience means the world

i don't think suban hit a target all night. Shat himself when the pressure was on and just banged it on the boot.

Well Apeness had an interrupted pre-season and Taberner has been injured, so yeah...
