option 1. i think Hinkley will put Hombsch at Fullback, Jonas as CHB and keep Westhoff as the spare in defence with the licence to run forward. Lobbe will have to do most of the ruck by himself and as for the forward line i think he will be tempted at bring in Shaw with the option of subbing him out half way thru the third term, return wingard to the forward crumbing position

option 2. Bring in O'Shea or clurey to the back line, have pittard as the looseman in defence, Leave westhoff to do his normal role in the forward and ruck.

also i think Cassisi and young should come in to help with the inside work

I agree with most regarding 2 talls out and 3 in.

We must have 2 tall defenders and a tall forwars to cover Westhoff as he will need to ruck. Westhoff cannot be on the ground 100% gametime if he is going to ruck as well.

Big difference to most is that I would go Butcher before Shaw.

Might sound silly/weird/early morning drunk talk or whatever saying this, but we need someone that will allow our existing goalscorers to actually score more goals, more than we need another player that may or may not score a goal or two himself.

Yeah I agree we needed someone to bring the ball to ground (butch) but I don't know if hes been in ripping form

With both carlile and trengove out o'shea and clurey have to come in. I feel that they may stretch us for height and push rider deep forward. Surprised there is not many calls for benny newton

It is all well and good that some take shots at Mitchell (who is going to be important) and S Gray (don't know that is the answer), but I am somewhat surprised that Monfries is not coming under scrutiny. I can't recall him doing anything in the game and seems to have been poor of late.

If bobby and Trengove are out. Dom is a must we will need an old head in the back lines. Shaw or Butch up forward(coaches call). O'shea or Clurey and Young

O'shea/Clurey for bobby
Dom for Trengove
Shaw/butch for SGray
Young for Mitchell (a bit of a tough call but need a stronger body)

Naturally biggest worry is Ruck. A big ask for Lobbe and Hoff

If Wingard is going to play midfield I reckon its time for Neade to come in as the crumber. Sammy Gray might make it but doesn't look to be in great form at the moment.

Bringing in another small forward definitely is not the answer.

Both will be out ths week. Its a six day break.

We will struggle, must win game if we want to make top 4 and with games in Perth vs freo, Syd and pies I have my doubts.

Shaw is right now a vastly better, more confident, more rounded footballer than Butch. He kicks straight, uses voice, looks authoritative in the forward line, and looks hungry to have the ball in his hands as often as possible. To my mind that puts him way in front of Butcher.

Butcher has to play. If he doesn't play this week then why is he on our list? His form has been patchy in the SANFL to say the least, confidence is also down. But not playing him and picking Shaw who's played a couple of good games but in my opinion is not ready for the AFL yet is a just another kick in the guts. I really, really want Butch to play this week, maybe even for a few weeks. A decision on his future may need to come to a head.

just pick one of them and let them have a bloody decent time in the team to find their feet. I mean we have given some players who are clearly not AFL material a huge amount of time and backed them in. Time to back in a KPF and give them the same allowances

So now we should pick Butch ahead of Shaw because if we don't it might hurt his feelings?

I am almost saying that. He needs a run. If he stuffs it up again, then maybe its curtains for him. Getting paid $300k to play for the Magpies is not what he's here for. He's been on the list for what 5-6 years. Hinkley is using him as insurance at the moment. If he can't even deliver on that, why is he still here? Confidence can be gained from playing, getting overlooked for some kid who's played a couple of good games at SANFL level will not do him any good IMO.

His game this week was mixed. No impact himself, but kept Smith who is in AA form completely out of the game. If we had ended up winning, it could have been one of the matchups that defined the win, unfortunately due to the loss his negating role will be forgotten and scrutiny placed on the lack of scoreboard impact.

He kicked 4 against the Hawks and 3 against Sydney, so he has done his fair share in our tougher games. Unfortunately his year has been heavily interrupted by injury. Hasn't played more than 3 games in a row. It's hard to build form when you're constantly out injured.

M Shaw and Clurey have too come in at least, and then there is a case for A Young after his performance, could come in for S Gray.

more importantly we need to prepare and recover properly otherwise their could be another post showdown let down.

What I find interesting is that we emphasise our running power but our selections always push the running power to the detriment of key position power.

If we have this strength we shouldn't need to sacrifice a decent structure. We can't rely on superb goal kicking by Schulz, White running in goals and Wingard magic every week. The wet didn't help but the lack of a big forward cost us the Sydney game and may have cost us yesterday's given how important the mental side of the game is. I hope we are not too stubborn to change the structure.

With Westhoff down back/rucking, I don't think we'd be too tall really.

Butch as a lead up CHF, Shaw a stay at home FF and Schulz doing whatever he likes.

I don't know, it would just be refreshing to see us go tall against a tall team instead of having to rely on our small all the time.
