Changes vs Essendon

Why does the official PAFC website list the coming Magpies v Sturt game as the 'club debut' of Tom Jonas? I thought we were one club? Surely it should be SANFL debut? It also list's Tom's previous clubs as Rostrevor/Norwood and Port Adelaide AFL.

If we cannot get it right ourselves we can hardly complain when our opposition gets it wrong.

Maybe I am being too pedantic but we did fight hard to be recognised as one club.

Lobbe is very lucky IMO. He should have been gone a couple of weeks ago and now gets to play a team without a ruckman. I guess we'll see if he can avoid giving the Essendon midfield the silver service he gave Thompson and Dangerfield.

What a ****ing waste of an opportunity to blood a tall.

Disappointed Ah Chee is out, happy enough with the ins.

I could accept that last year (if it ain't broke...) when our side was playing out of their minds and he was lagging behind a little bit but right now with the amount of mediocrity in the team he's (Butcher) got a case to feel hard done by.

We are tinkering with the same structure over and over at the moment presumably based on the notion that we're just having an off year. My greatest fear is that we're not just having an off year, that we're actually just a bloody average side and right now we're just running on the spot.

it is his debut for us in the sanfl. its like when player x gets picked in the league for the first time, sure he has played 12 games for the club in the reserves but this is his debut. its the same, just in reverse.

Well by this stage it's pretty clear. Our structure doesn't include another key forward.

Ken has said lots of times in an ideal world he'd like to play another tall forward when they demand selection.

Unfortunately none of our players are putting Scott Hodges 1990 record in danger so their form isn't demanding selection.

Luckily, the midfield merry-go-round aren't expected to rival a hypothetic lovechild of Ebert and Robran, so their form is irrelevant to selection.

on a side note, Giles has NOT been named for Essendon.
like, WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING?

Edit: That may be a good thing because it could allow Lobbe to get some form back.... lol who am i kidding:drunk:;):p

I don't understand why more people aren't talking about this. They have been smashed all year in the rucks, like brutally smashed. Mckernan is not a primary Ruckman, so why is he solo rucking against quality rucks. Questions also have to be asked about the signing of Giles. If you are not going to play him now, when are you going to play him? People are saying he hasn't done very well in the VFL, but hell, you have to play at least one proper ruckman. He had multiple parties interested last year (including us) and he went to Essendon for opportunities, who no doubt were more than willing to reassure him that he would play. They clearly have no intention of playing him, they haven't got another ruck on the list which is just atrocious recruitment from them. Everyone said we were dumb for only having 3 ruckman on our list in 2014 (All AFL standard or better) even though we had 2 genuine forward/rucks. They have a sub par injury prone ruckman, a forward/ruck who couldn't get a game at Adelaide when they were crying out for forward rucks, and apparently someone they don't rate enough to play. They also don't appear to have a young apprentice ruckmen so they will be playing catchup for years. Dodoro and Hird should be answering questions on how this was allowed.

Our structure doesn't include Lobbe tapping it down the throat of opposition midfielders every bounce either.

Look, there's a pretty easy switch around.

Lobbe out. Ryder to lead ruck. Harvey to Ryder's role if he comes in.

If Butcher comes in, Westhoff and Trengove to share the backup ruck duties, with Westhoff dropping back when Trengove is up there.

We have the flexibility to do it. What we don't have the flexibility to do is get absolutely pasted in the midfield again.

Meh.
Uninspiring.

Nicholls umpiring our game again :drunk:
I've reached the point of that being a positive. We can clearly be a 4-5 goal better side yet lose. We get the upside of knowing who was better and on track for a better pick #glasshalffull

What's the odds on Shaun McKernan pulling out a vintage older brother-esque performance against us though? lol I'm almost expecting it

I understand all of this, and posted about the above proposed rotation earlier today. I just don't see the point in frothing at the mouth every week when we expectedly don't select a third KPF. Surely by this stage it's like banging your head against a brick wall repeatedly.

Dust off the spud thread. But seriously, if we can't work him over with Lobbe and Ryder we should fold.

I would certainly hope that won't happen. Another poster put up that in the Showdown his hits to opposition were 35% whereas he is usually 18%. I would assume it was worse as he was competing with Jacobs and when the other ruckman is on song your hits do tend to become random. Rucking against McKernan only I would certainly hope he can do better.
Tis is the other post I was talking about

Just give me until Butcher is delisted and then i'll probably go a bit easier. At this stage we're playing out of form experienced players when our season is done. I'd much rather be actually harsh with selection for once and drop someone established who has several bad games in a row.

It's like goldilocks.

Broadbent was dropped too early and Jonas was dropped too late. Lobbe's dropping is probably just right, if not a bit overdone.

I'm usually pumped for Thursday & selections. Feeling neither excited nor disappointed. Feels like groundhog day. If we win it will be because of the usual suspects not the fringe players that drift in and out.
