Never should have turned Mayes into a defender. His most promising football has always been as a midfielder/hff type.
It’s a decision I’ve never agreed with.

Agree with you on getting Matheison in with Mitch out, Rhys had 15 contested possessions in the ressies on the weekend and he also brings a bit of attitude to the side.I’m thinking if both Charlie Cameron and Mitch Robinson are out injured… I’m thinking Berry and either Mathieson or Barrett.
Others?
- both Charlie and Mitch are in our top 9 for goal assists and top 6 for score involvements – last year Barrett was top 10 Mathieson equal 11
- Mitch out highest ranked for contested possessions [Lester #6should stay?] Last year the Beast was #4 Barrett #15
- Mitch #2 for tackles [Lester #4] In 2017 Jake#3 & Rhys ranked #8
- Charlie 3rd for goal assists in 2017 Rhys #10 Jake#11
Bell for endurance and TOLD to play Mitch/Wrecking Ball style!
Sam Mayes? Playing the Charlie forward role? Could? be interesting.

Agree highly with this, was what attracted the high draft selection IMO. His going back was maybe a defensive education and due to at the time 'best fit' for positive skill/ball use out of the back half, stayed there too long?Never should have turned Mayes into a defender. Certainly a bit of like for like mongrel - depends on how his endurance levels have improved. Would love the 'best of' hybrid of Rhys and Tom Bell rolled into one... cotter101 - any mature non-AFL level of this type waiting to be picked up in this draft?Agree with you on getting Matheison in with Mitch out, Rhys had 15 contested possessions in the ressies on the weekend and he also brings a bit of attitude to the side.
Yeah, certainly recall the same but I think both he and the club may need to reassess this going forward [well before next contract time]The 'inside word' from those on this board who know better was that Mayes wanted to play down back.

Are you sure? Source? We were minus 12 in clearances and their midfielders racked it up, so it sounds surprising and surely he would have got votes for that many CP? He had 15 handballs, but that doesn't make them all contested. (Maybe you're mixing him up with Tom Bell from the week before?) But if you're right, then great, it's an impressive effort.Agree with you on getting Matheison in with Mitch out, Rhys had 15 contested possessions in the ressies on the weekend and he also brings a bit of attitude to the side.
Cameron out for the rest of the season

Ballenden facial fracture: 3 - 5 weeks
I missed all word about that completely. When did that happen?

It seems we are always having to focus on next year. At least Skinner is listed as only two weeks which is great for him.
1-10 with a golden run with injuries. How will we finish the year?
I can't see the weaknesses in his game being less of an issue playing forward than it is when he plays down back.
He's just too passive. Wants to sit back and let the game come to him. At least as a defender he's forced into the play.
Probably best not to think about it.
I honestly don't think Cameron is much of a loss. MRobbo is more important.
If Bundy and/or Clug miss we'll need some class. With Cox available Mayes has to come in.
I'd shift Rich into the midfield before promoting Matho or Lyons. He's surplus to requirements down back and is worth a shot in the middle.
Win enough ball in the middle and I'm confident we can kick enough goals to win.
