Hopefully Arty can get a good run into the end of the year. He was looking good just before injury.
Looking Good? Or not looking as lost as his previous games. I like him but please don’t say he was looking good.
He will be lucky to stay on the list.
Assumption 6-9 change every year, he’s right in the area for cut

6 - 9?

Unless we are trading players in you'd end up with very late draft picks that people will here would then use a whipping boys

6 or 7 is nothing unusual. Probably around the AFL average.

There are 1-2 trades most years and sometimes a place is left free for the PSD/MSD. So that leaves about 4 ND picks which seems pretty reasonable.

Last year we took 5 picks to the draft. Only Jaques (#29) and Luke Kennedy (#62) haven't debuted yet, and Jaques is getting close but might have to wait until next year. Plus we traded for Matt Kennedy and kept a spot for the MSD where we used it to pick up Sellwood / Walker (I think the extra vacancy was due to an LTI).

Everybody around here seems pretty chuffed with all of that. There were seven departures from last year's list.

IF and only IF Arty is declared fit to play I would have him in this week.

My instructions to Arty would be just apply pressure inside our F50 and lay as many tackles as possible in our forward half but especially inside our F50

We lack this as a side, it is a void that needs to be filled and Arty's place in the side should be heavily weighted to the above.

Mate i saw Arty play and was good before he got injured i toatly disagree why you say he'll be luck to stay on the list and there are players worse on the list

You know commentators like Kane Cornes are wrong in saying we have the best list in the AFL when for a significant number of our players the best we can say about them is “ there are worse players on the list”.

The chances of this happening would be non-existent.

He’s been a fringe player at the best of times, let alone coming off a 12 week hamstring injury with zero match fitness.

There certainly could be a role there for him but he’s going to need to show some form over the next few weeks at VFL level.

It is a bit of a worry for next season that in the last half of the season we have had a good run with injury and cannot beat the better teams. Only Cody and ADZ and JUH not available and all 3 are a question marks in 2026.

Hope Cody's knee will be ok next season. ADZ I think injuries have got him and retirement looms and I doubt we see JUH again in the red, white and blue.

Not having those 3 plus losing Smith and Dunkley in recent years is a big recent why our bottom 6 players just to not cut it.

We rely on a lot of young players, they will be significantly better after another preseason

I really don't want to keep doing the Hynes / Dolan yo-yo. Play well VFL, come in the AFL team, quiet game, move to sub, then back to VFL. Would rather they stay at VFL in a specific role, build up confidence and dominate for 3-4 weeks.

Id rather put fragments of games into Dolan and Hynes and expose them to the higher intensity of AFL than the likes of Baker and Poulter when slots need to be filled due to injury or some such.

The VFL is of such a low standard that I can barely stand to watch it.

Which I haven't for over a month now.

Not that i'm clamoring for him to get into the team or anything, but if we want to pick a sub who can come on and give us the best chance at an instant impact and inject some pace, it would be Baker. He has done it before I think the Pies game early this year from memory. As others have said, we seem to just pick the 23rd player in line to start as the sub, but I would be ok with it being Baker if we are just looking for a bit of an edge here and someone with pace to come into the game in the second half.
