Suggested changes for the weekends game Vs Essenson.

Melbourne Squad
Backs: M.Whelan, C.Garland, M.Warnock
Half backs: C.Johnson, S.Martin, L.Dunn
Centrelin: C.Morton, C.Bruce, S.Buckley
Half forwards: B.Green, M.Bate, A.Davey
Forwards: M.Newton, B.Miller, J.McDonald
Followers: M.Jamar, S.Valenti, N.Jones
Interchange from: P.Johnson, A.Maric, P.Wheatley, A.Wonaeamirri

IN: A.Wonaeamirri, P.Wheatley, B.Green

OUT: C.Bartram, D.Bell, C.Sylvia

Wona, Green and Wheatley are all expected to return, hopefully if they don't all get up then maybe someone like Petterd gets a run, but Yze has been putting in some really good games & wont be far away. I think that White might have to put in another good game before getting a call up.

All of these 3 outs could use a run at Sandy, they need to be made to earn their spots rather then just be selected because of lack of options. Maric showed more then Sylvia, but there were some reports that Maric might have hurt himself so he might have a rest

Can anyone please tell me what day Saturday is? Because as far as i was aware they don't play football on Saturdays, well Melbourne don't at least. You have to go back to Round 4(!!!), April 12th for our last game on a Saturday. That is 113 days between Saturday games, so for the first time in what feels like forever we won't have to name a 25 man squad

Well, I agree with most of what you've written. Sylvia could use a Dal Santo type break just so he knows his spot isn't a certainty each week. Maric showed more than him last week? I whole heartedly disagree, but you're entitled to your opinion.

Bell was okay last week, other than the 1st quarter, but he could also do with a break. The Bartram call should be an obvious one, but I'm not certain the selection panel will agree.

And yes, playing on a Saturday seems like a foreign concept. I was getting sick of Sundays, so its a welcome change.

Personally I'd keep Colin in and give Marci a rest. He did well on debut, but I'll be surprised if he plays many more games. So I'd have McLean_4_Captain's changes except Maric out instead of Sylvia. Wouldn't be fussed if Sylvia was dropped and Addam stayed in though.

I don't actually mind those changes, I'd be quite happy to go in with that side.

I don't think dropping a debutant the next game is the right way to go about it, and Bailey hasn't done it before so I doubt he will start now.

Leave Bell in, he had a bad start to the game but I thought he played well after that apart from the kick in. He needs confidence and dropping him a couple of weeks after bringing him in would not do him any good.

I didn't say Maric played a better game or had more impact, i said Maric showed more. It was Maric's first game as a 18 y.o, Sylvia is almost 23 and has played 65+ games. So based on that, i believe Maric showed more

Maric struggled a bit, but so do lots of first gamers. None of our forwards had lots of touches, but i was impressed by Maric's attack on the ball, i think in the first 1/4 he chased about 3 blokes trying to get a tackle, he didn't get the ball and could've given up after the first chase and no one would've noticed, but the endevour was really impressive.

The other thing, as mentioned by others is Bailey is yet to drop a first gamer or other younger players after just one game. I'd much rather see Maric get a another chance and have Sylvia given a shake up.

From an outsiders point of view, I think the future (more specifically 2010-2013) is looking bright for Melbourne, as they have solid young players in each area.
Rucks - Martin
Backs - Garland
Forwards - Bate
Mids - Jones, Morton
I can see these players developing into very good players in the future, and the Dees could be around the mark.

Now that i've sucked up a bit, what are Wheatley's chances of making a return this week? He's in my dream team!

nice comment, but Martin's being groomed for a defensive position.

Newton has ecsaped critiscm so far, he was terrible channel 7 adn triple m were ripping him to shreds. He IMO should be the first one dropped.

I avoided mentioning Juice because i thought everyone else would jump all over him, i'm surprised it's taken this long.

Who is going to replace him, Holland? I don't think so. I want Juice left in the side for the rest of the year and if he's showing nothing show him the door, but he's got to be given every oppotunity. Hopefully it will at very least give him some trade value

Yeah, I still disagree though.

However, I agree with the section highlighted in bold. I think its a bit ridiculous, unless his shoulder is giving trouble, to drop Maric after one game.
Sylvia, on the other hand, could do with a reality check.

My changes would be

Ins:Green & Wheatley (if both pass fitness tests) Aussie & Holland
Outs:Bartram,Bell,Newton & Maric

Would like to see Ben Holland get a run,DB has stated that if the players perform at Sandringham they will get looked at & Holland has kicked 4 goals each in the past two games, you know with him you'll get a 100% effort & who else in our side could match Mal Michael for strength? The other ins are obvious if they are all fit!
As for the outs Bartram has been treading water of late a spell at Sandy would do him no harm,Bell turns the ball over to much,Newton runs around like he is in fairy land & i am happy for Maric to go back after just one game,he did ok but does'nt look ready just yet,the experience of playing an AFL game will be good for him!

What did I spell wrong? If I spelt it wrong it is because there is a topic has the name the same as how I have spelled it. I thought it was different but assumed that Melbourne fans knew how to spell it better than me.
Whatever floats your boat :)

One L in Colin :thumbsu:. Yeah, I saw that thread too, poor form from a Melb. supporter.

To make a more constructive remark, Johns doesn't seem to be able to stay fit, and when he is I just don't see him being the type to make a real impact on AFL-level games. Whereas I can see potential in Sylvia to improve, but he really needs to lift his efforts in a number of areas.

Play sylvia out of the square, don't give Newton a game because a) he is tall and b? cos we do not have anyone else. I would rather play a shorth forward out of the square as opposed to Newton. Sylvia did it quite well against collingwood and brisbane.

I want Newton to be played not because we dont have anyone else, but because i want us to give him a chance for the rest of the year. If he shows nothing in the last 5 games, at least we took a chance to see what he could do, and then we delist him.

I'd rather us do that and delist him, because if we don't try to test him now we're likely to keep him on our list, because we don't have any other options.

And Sylvia seems a bit complacent, he needs to know he's expendable then he might start putting in
