INS: Cloke, Goldsack, Brown, Aish
OUTS: Witts, Sinclair, Crocker, Frost

B - Williams Brown Marsh
HB - Howe Reid Maynard
C - Crisp Pendlebury Aish
HF - Goldsack Cloke Sidebottom
F - Varcoe White Blair
R - Grundy Treloar Greenwood
INT - Smith Phillips DeGoey Cox

Tick

Cloke in Witts out. Still can't fathom why we played Grundy & Witts together. One or the other - Witts should have been picked today instead of Grundy and Cloke kept. Against Freo I prefer Grundy. It has to be horses for courses with these two.

Aish in Sinclair Out. Aish is showing form for a few weeks so why not. Sinclair just looks off at the moment.

Goldsack in Frost Out. Got to give the Sack a Crack. I just do not see a match up for Frost or Brown unless Pav is back - even then I think we can probably survive. Goldy gives us flexibility run and will tackle. Plus can swing him forward. Marsh, Reid, Howe, Goldy is kind of a more dynamic backline.

Wills in Smith Out. Nothing against Smith but he just needs a freshen up. We need to get a look at Wills it is that stage of the year where we need to start sorting out who can play with the big boys.

The season is over, so the last 10 games see what direction this club wants to head in and select appropriately. Players who the club thinks will not be part of it going forward, do not play them, but select for the future.

In: Aish, Wills, Fasolo (Will be back), Goldsack
Out: Crocker (rest), Frost, Sinclair, Witts

First thing I would do is play Crisp at half back. His run and carry and long kicking is something we haven't had all year.

I'd ask move Reid to the forward line. Much more agility and a dangerous mark and can lead. There is a lack of movement on the forward line so all we are seeing are the players bombing it.

I'd say Cloke will come in for Witts and Aish comes in for Smith.

Get Aish in the middle.

This is purely for discussion and not just more anti Jarryd Blair stuff, but has he actually ever been dropped? He always seems to be the beneficiary of the fact that he's never the worst and there's no one really pushing for his spot. Statistically, he looks like a contributor, and he obviously has the support of Bucks. I don't think he'll be dropped next week for what it's worth.

Pretty sure he was dropped at least once last season, but as you point out, there's usually not enough selection pressure on him from players in the VFL.
He's the type of limited, hard-working player with a hardened body that every team has some of, but he just hasn't improved enough as a scorer or a defensive forward [half tackles that do not actually disrupt the opposition are a feature and should not be considered effective], so he doesn't do enough consistent damage for mine.

I agree with almost all of that, except Reid forward. I know the forward line is struggling big time, but I want to settle Reid and Howe back.
Cloke for Witts seems obvious, although it would not surprise me if Cloke is poor again at AFL level.
I would bring in Goldy to the forward 50 to help with keeping the ball in there longer.
BTW, Crisp to half back is worth trying - it's a shame that Wills is not AFL-fit yet.
Aish deserves his promotion, and hopefully he's given the same kind of role in the seniors, so he's amongst the action.

We need to go smaller.

We are a side that relies on tackling pressure and intensity...so that means a quicker side would serve us better.

I want to see us bring some experience back. Our problem is leadership and structure, so a few wiser heads will help out. We then balance this with a few kids who have performed well at VFL level.

Jessie White to go into the ruck. He has been good around the ground, so all he needs to do is compete and play like another midfielder. This strategy has worked for Port and Bulldogs against us. Freo also are missing Sandilands so we could test it out.

In: Cloke, Brown, Goldsack, Wills, Aish
Out: Witts, Frost, Cox, Crocker, Blair

This side has experience and youth. Phillips definitely deserves another crack. I'd love to give Wills a crack because we are getting smashed in clearances, and Wills is a bull in this area.

With Goldsack coming back, maybe it is time now for Howe back into the forward line. I think long term Howe is a better defender, but I also think we need to test him up forward now that he is back to full match fitness.

Sidebottom has been tagged out of it the last 2 weeks, so I'd try him as a crumber, rotating with Pendlebury up forward.

The team would be:

Goldsack, Brown, Marsh
Williams, Reid, Sinclair
Crisp, Treloar, Phillips
Howe, White, De Goey
Varcoe, Cloke, Sidebottom

Grundy, Pendlebury, Greenwood

Aish, Wills, Maynard, Smith

I know Blair is just about our only small forward, but I was really disappointed with him yesterday. He shanked so many, and missed crucial shots. Also missed some tackles.

Cloke was clearly needed, but was sent a message for his form regardless of the fact our forward line was going to suffer. I think the same message should apply to Blair.

We have depth in the midfield, and I'd actually like Aish to have a crack and play permanent mid.

That means we could use Varcoe and Sidebottom as crumbers.

It would be great if Aish could step up and be a genuine midfield contributor as it will allow us to rotate some quality through the forward line.

My variation to this would be The Caff for Greenwood. Sure he has had a couple of good games but the amount of free kicks he has against him is appalling so my ins would be

Brown for Frost
Caff for Greenwood
Cloke for Witts/Cox only reason I put Cox as an option is a few times he looked absolutely stuffed but maybe the 2 weeks will sort this out if so Witts out
Aish for Sinclair
Goldsack for Blair

He's been terrible, so that statement makes little sense in my eyes

As shit as Witts was and as proimising as Cox might be you cant look past the simple fact that Cox doesnt win enough ball. If he doesnt take the contested mark 35 metres out (and kick the goal) hes pretty much useless. Tries his guts out but hes cooked for a month or so an needs to return to the VFL.

We need to go back to two rucks, our best forward, and our most in form forward.

Thats Grundy Witts Cloke and White.

Each week just feels like a carousel - forever just making changes to the team and consequently the structure. I understand that this is inevitable with injury but we appear to be searching for that silver bullet to save face or jobs.

I think we need to understand a game plan, stick by that game plan and select a team that can best execute. With such dynamic changes to structure it's no wonder our players are struggling to do whatever it is they're supposed to.

I agree with DaVe86 but I really hope with get some continuity in whatever it is we are trying to achieve.

This IS the "next weeks 22" thread.... as we have had every week....so of course it feels like a carousel.

I think the answer is to go even taller up forward.

Out: Blair, Crocker
In: Gault, Cloke

The selection committee needs to stick by its guns and go with a forward line of:

HF: Gault, Cloke, Witts
F: Cox, Jesse, Grundy

What a great season this has been. Go the poo poo pies.

I agree but the trouble is every other week we have an injury to a key positional player with the inevitable result that the players can't gel and the game plan whatever it is cannot be implemented, the hope is that soon after the bye at least Faz, Moore, Broomhead, Langdon, Adams are available for selection together with Cloke, Brown and Aish .

Therein lies the problem if all 8 were available how many would you pick? That's not including the Sack or the Caff

Problem is Blair is a Bucks Favorite and While Cloke is Obviously on the Outer.

dont drop witts he is a spud i know but let him play into some sort of form so hes trade value goes up.
i think aish should play in the vfl till the end of year and unleash him next year like we did with grundy in 2014

Blair won't get dropped who knows we might play another ruckman
Wyatt to debut (despite not playing VFL for a month).
Gault to come in also.

Land of the giants to be taken to a new extreme.:drunk:
