Changes vs Freo

Just thought that because nearly every ruckman gets monstered by Sandilands in the ruck and for a first gamer to go up against him. Would take a monster effort from big Macca.

I'm not too worried playing too many kids, i'd rather lose to Freo knowing we're developing kids in the 22 rather than playing our usual 22 and losing horribly.

IN: Birss, Armitage, McEvoy, Allen
OUT: Blake, McQualter, M. Gardiner, Gwilt

ST KILDA
B: Gilbert, Hudghton, Dempster
HB: Goddard, S.Fisher, Gram
C: Dal Santo, Ball, Montagna
HF: Schneider, Gardiner, Jones
F: Milne, Riewoldt, Allen
FOLL: King, Hayes, Harvey
I/C: Geary, Armitage, Birss, McEvoy
EMG: Howard, Blake, Eddy

If they are injured:
Eddy > Dempster
Howard > Schneider

Either Eddy or Howard could replace Gwilt as well.

Mini was good enough in his first game of the year to warrant another chance surely?

I agree with your inclusions and 3 of the omissions. I'd probably drop Dempster instead of McQualter. Geary can replace Dempster in your starting 18, Mini to the bench.

Very happy for McEvoy to get a game and hopefully Allen does as well.

I don't think bringing kids into the team is giving up on the season, it's exciting and hopefully their enthusiasm will rub off on the rest of the team.

I agree.

I think we'll play him forward for the majority of the game.

I'd probably look at moving him into the ruck when Sandilands is having a spell just to give him a taste of it.

Hmm a good point. Sandilands rarely taps to his mids, or rather his mids are shithouse, so I wouldn't be overly concerned if McEvoy doesn't get a hitout. It wouldn't his confidence much good though...

Wouldnt it be smarter to wait til the following week and play him at the Gold Coast away from the media spotlight, and against the Kangaroos who are now without McIntosh for the season ?

Debuting v David Hale in front of nobody >>>>>>>> Debuting v Aaron Sandilands on Friday Night Footy.

Macca will surely know there's no expectations on him though, so he's got no pressure to do extremely well, heck we're pretty much expecting him to get r*ped. But at least he's getting game time, and I don't think it will damage his confidence to get beaten by one of the best ruckmen in the country. What about the fact he's gonna be playin footy in front of 30k people live, and a few hundred thousand on TV, that's a pretty massive boost to anyones confidence.

Hopefully he can kick a goal or two and the other players are really supportive and give him heaps of congrats and advice if he needs it.

I think Macca and Jarrad Grant from the Doggies are the only two from the top 10 not to have played a game this season, unsurprsing as they're both big men, but it would be good to be saying by the end of the season that Macca is a great prospect for us, up there with Kreuzer hopefully. :D

Has anyone got more info on schneider? i thought he had a hammy but theres been nothing about it and in paper this morning it was about freo having enough smalls to cover milne and schneider. I think way freos been playing they have slight edge but i think that hopefully the youth injected will provide a spark i mean it worked well in the nab cup although i dont think howard should play yet nowhere near deserves recall but will be fascinating to see how mcevoy goes. You also have to realise that sandilands wont play 100% ruck the whole game so then mcevoy could get a run unfortuatnely warnock is massive too but hell get hitouts against him.

Have a feeling that could be true. Anyone watch on the couch? When Rossy moved Dal to the backline on Moore. Dal was standing 5 metres off him, couldn't give a rats arse about his opponent. And what happens? The ball is straight away kicked out of the centre and goes straight to Moore, goal. Has been playing better footy the past couple of games but his accountability is terrible.

This is where it would be good to upset the apple cart a little bit. Put some accountabillity into the forward line.

SEN are saying that Dal has been dropped......

That would fit Lyons statement that there are no certain starters any more. I personally would have expected Montagna to be the victim, but Dal Santo would of course be an even bigger 'wake up call' to the entire playing group. Gram would have been the obvious choice until two weeks ago when he started getting his act together again. Schneider and Koschitzke, two other possible targets, appear to be injured anyway (confirmed for Koschitzke).

Reputations really count for nothing, particularly when you're five-seven and you've won one out of five. It's not about personalities or past performance. It's what you're putting up week-in, week-out and we'll really reward and encourage those who do what we want. Those who don't will have to go back and develop the habits we're looking for and create an opportunity for themselves.

Surely the best 22 is the best 22. You don't use the game as a punishment reward system to make sure players tow the line.
I am not sure what the team selection criteria is , but it dosn't seem to be performance based.
Will we have a better side without him - No. Are we more likely to beat Freo -No.
If we were closer to the bottom of the ladder we would be accused of tanking for this.

Dropping Milne (our leading goal kicker) and Dal Santo (our best user of the footy) is an emotive and knee jerk reaction by this coach and his selection committee.

These players are both clearly in our best 22, and this is a disgraceful decision, the consequences of which will not be apparent to all until the end of the season.

How far back has this bloke taken us ?
