I may have been drunk but sure he had a few great taps straight down our boys throats. I was impressed.

Same here. I didn't realise his possessions were so low, but he did palm the ball quite nicely a few times tonight, certainly better than his previous outings.

Langdon is a 50/50 selection in our best 22, and Cripps has been down on form all year. Ideally, both would go out, but really only have Winder to replace them. For mine it's Langdon. I really want Simmo to put a rocket up Cripps, but with so many players we probably couldn't afford to drop another best 22 player to send a message. (EDIT: Also have J Jones as possible replacement for Langon. In fact, JJones is probably in front of Winder)

Vardy out. Actually didn't really spud it up tonight, but there's just enough chance for him to impact the game. Trew is probably my first in line to come in as I still think we are midfielder short. O'Neill didn't do much, but he's a second string midfielder playing in his 8th game. I think he's having about as much impact as we would be expecting from him.

As ever, repeating myself, but can't just default to Allen second rucking. That duty needs to be shared. If Waterman retains his spot I'd rather just go with him for a token contest.

The above being said, still need to wait on the head's of Cole and Rotham and JK's ankle.

That ground just doesn't suit our style. Need to really adjust to have any chance of stealing this one.

Perfect game to rest JK. Vardy not needed given it's Stanley and noone. Reckon Cole probably misses given the head knock.

In: Foley, Trew, Winder/Jones

Go smaller, playing that tall will bite us hard again when the oppo don't lose players

In: Williams Winder Trew
Out: Vardy Langdon Waterman
Allen needs to stay out the ruck even at the risk of playing Vardy (if not Williams).
Probably too tall with 2 rucks + Allen, so Waterman plays some WAFL to find form.
O'Neill deserves another week.
You serious about waterman? He started to look the real deal.

It's very tricky fitting him in with all our talls, even if he's not really playing a KPP role but he probably did enough to retain his spot tonight.

The choice is really going to come down to - do we want a third small forward, which would be Cripps plus two of Langdon, Winder or Jones... or are we happy to go just one of those three (as tonight) with another tall utility in Waterman. To be honest, with the output we are getting out of our small forwards this year, I think the Waterman path is the better one at the moment.

Looking at our small forward options (excluding Rioli)

Ryan - Not his best four weeks. Not terrible, but certainly not 2020 levels. Now injured.
Cripps - Well down on his best. As above, I'd like to see him given a rocket and dropped for a couple of games, but we've got too many injuries to do that at the moment. As I said elsewhere, if we were playing a final next week, I'd be picking him.
Jones - Flashy. A lot to like about him, but only just kicked multiple goals for the first time.
Winder - Just played his first game.
Petch - Flashy. Two really good games so far. High risk, high reward prospect. Injured.
Langdon - Gives it his all, but not sure he's got the class for AFL level football.

IMO we don't need any more than two of them in the 22 at the moment, which means we can find a role for Waterman. If JJK gets rested this week it will give Waterman even more of a role and it would then be interesting to see if we retain Vardy or a third small forward in place of JJK. Can't see us retaining all 10 190cm+ players for the Geelong game.

WAFL watch tomorrow will be interesting. Could very well likely be a couple of spots open. Trew could find himself getting a debut in Geelong. We had a debutant inside mid in our last win against Geelong in Geelong. He ended up winning a Brownlow. Could be a sign?

If Ah Chee is fit I’d consider him in the forward role we played Langdon in tonight.

If Cole or Rotham don’t come up- Foley comes in and we play some switching with roles. Cameron is likely to be back next week so we will need to be aware of the different threats they pose.

Langdon has got more of the ball but he hasn't kicked a goal. Jones hasn't got enough ball and apart from his 3 goals against Bulldogs hasn't kicked any. Winder only kicked 1 goal. Good opportunity whilst Petrucelle is out for Cameron to show a bit.

Cameron just coming back from a loooooong layoff though. Has been out for ages with this persistent groin issue, and didn’t set the world alight in 2020 when he had some chances.

He’d need to build some serious WAFL form before getting a start ahead of Winder/Jones I’d have thought.

The Petruccelle whiplash is something to behold. From the 'he will never be a footballer, just an athlete, can't believe we signed him up until 2050' to - what are we going to do without Petch, Langdon is garbage, Jones can't find the footy, maybe Cameron possibly can come in???

Petch is a work in progress, but it's clear he's getting better. He's still young, but already he is harder at the footy, has improved his skills, is getting smarter and more confident. I think he'll be a very handy footballer in a couple of years - already he's better than Langdon or Jones.

Regardless, impressive foresight and recruiting to turn our small forward contingent of basically just Cripps into - Cripps, Ryan, Rioli, Petch, Jones, Langdon, Cameron and depending on what he becomes, Winder.

I am worried about Langdon though, he's not looking quite up to it - not sure what it is. Has anyone looked into his legs as a possible explanation?

Yeah but given the Ryan injury the more small forwards pushing for selection the better. Unless he kicks 3+ goals in the next few WAFL games Jones and Winder and Langdon are all ahead at this point.

Yeah Petrucelle like a lot of players got very little game time last year and scrimmages sure weren't like a full game in the WAFL. I was delighted with his game v Saints. We now have some depth in small forwards which I don't recall having for a long time.

How can we have Ryan, Rioli, Cameron, Winder, Ah Chee, Langdon, Cripps, Petch AND Jones on our list and our small forwards have still been so poor this year? 😆 so many injuries to the smalls and the ones who aren't are just ineffectively rotating through.

Our talls are so good that the smalls will get chances when the ball comes to ground. Just need someone who can make the most of it. Not that convinced on Langdon, I thought he made far too many basic errors last night.

It's doubly annoying too because we're playing too tall at the moment. Allen, Darling, Kennedy, Brander, Waterman and a resting ruck playing forward of centre is a bit too much.

It’s because we keep recruiting other teams’ discards and trying to shoehorn them into that role. Langdon, Ah Chee and Jones are all just failed mids/flankers IMO, and none would be getting a game at their previous clubs.

Why don’t we just draft some natural small forwards again like we did with Rioli and Cameron? Even Petch and Cripps aren’t natural forwards.

Simmo in 2018 said he wants to stop playing mids in the forward line, and when we had Rioli, Ryan and Lecca up there we won a flag.

Crumbers are a dime a dozen late in drafts, wouldn’t hurt them to delist a couple of these crabs and take a punt on someone new
