He's also not a tagger, and playing him as one is as stupid as playing VB as well.

BACCS, most of us just us to play our best team, and compete as hard as we can. We've rarely done either of those things this year - hence the disillusionment.

Look at the change in attitude on the Cricket board; Arthur goes, Boof has the revolutionary idea that you should pick your best XI, all of a sudden, everybody is excited and fired up about it.

It's not that bad this year either, it's just way down on last year.

He's 3rd in total hitouts.
Would be nice if some of them were directed towards his teammates, just occasionally. He seems to have returned to the colour blindness which blighted his game in 2011 - hitting every damn ball straight down the throats of the opposition midfielders, rather than to his own teammates.

He was really good in 2012, with a great hit out to advantage ratio.. but he's been awful this year.

Whoever we put into the Ruck, Jacobs just isn't cutting it, that's all there is to it. I prefer playing McKernan, because unlike Sauce, he can actually move around the ground - run, lead, take marks, show aggression (although can be stupid) - actually play footy in general field play. He might be a worse Ruckman than Sauce, but at least he can run and play footy. Jacobs just lands his precision-taps in the hands of the best opposition Midfielders, and bugger all else.
One can only assume that you've never seen McKernan play a game at the AFL level.

I can't validate it, but someone mentioned he's 4th in HO to adv.

He looks awful, with mistimed jumps in the middle, but I'd hazard a guess, his around-the-ground taps aren't as bad as everyone thinks. (I don't have time to analyse every tap)

Some Sando quotes:

Adelaide Crows@Adelaide_FC
1m
"Griggy's had a really good season. If it's Grigg, Petrenko or Callinan they don't have to be Danger. They just have to play their role."

Sando says he also likes the SANFL form of Johnston, Tambling and Hartigan. "We have options"

"We won't play Danger unless he's right. The doc says 3 weeks ... Danger says he'll be training on Monday."

"I haven't been too disappointed with our form the past few weeks. It feels like we're in the games, just not for long enough."

"We lose concentration at critical times and make fundamental errors. You need to be able to stand up & win the close games."

"I feel like we've got the bones of a really good, young side."

"However we finish this year, we've got to fight it out to the last quarter of the last game."

"You've got to deserve a game. We'll pick a team we expect to win."

"We're fitter than last year, but we feel clubs have matched us or gone past us. We've won a fair chunk of last quarters."

"Sometimes it might be a mindset thing. It hasn't affected Dangerfield, Douglas, Smith and these players."

"We've got a young group who are committing to the Club."

"I liked Lewis Johnston's game. His competitiveness and the way he threw himself into the game."

"The 9-day break will help Thommo. He's had some groin soreness & a bursa in his hip injected. He'll be back to his best this week."

Problem is I think our stoppage setups have been absolute an dogs breakfast since the start of the preseason, similar to what they were in 2011, having improved immensely last year. Jacobs, as well as McKernan and Jenkins, seem to win their fair share of clear hitouts, but our midfielders are never anywhere near it, they're either being led to the ball or just completely on the other side of the contest. Now there could be a number of reasons for this, not just that our ruckman are hitting to the wrong places.

"Griggy's had a really good season. If it's Grigg, Petrenko or Callinan they don't have to be Danger. They just have to play their role."

I think this is half of our problem, we too bloody happy with blokes "playing their role", how about expecting them to be more than just "okay" for once, this isn't the Bridgewater B-Grade, this is AFL football. Sure these guys aren't Danger, but lets put some expectations on individuals to do more than just the bare minimum.

Once again, we're just far too happy with being mediocre, not enough selection pressure is being placed upon the best 22.

"I feel like we've got the bones of a really good, young side."

I think we do have this, however we can't sit on our laurels and wait for things to happen for us, we need to blood these guys, give them responsibility and then actively trade hard to improve our side.

"However we finish this year, we've got to fight it out to the last quarter of the last game."

As long as we keep an eye for the future, playing Tambling or Callinan because his form is slightly better than Kerridge/Grigg or they've got more experience and might eek out a slightly better team performance is pointless. A winning attitude is required, however we need to focus on developing a 22 that will take us to a Premiership in 2014/15.

"You've got to deserve a game. We'll pick a team we expect to win."

Funny, selections all year could have fooled me in this regard. Rushing back middle of the road role players from injury, rather than playing the guys who are actually in form and are fit.

"We're fitter than last year, but we feel clubs have matched us or gone past us. We've won a fair chunk of last quarters."
"Sometimes it might be a mindset thing. It hasn't affected Dangerfield, Douglas, Smith and these players."

I don't think fitness is our big issue, I think we're a little heavy, but I think its a major copout for some who can't accept that our gameplan, structures etc are just no where near up to scratch.

"I liked Lewis Johnston's game. His competitiveness and the way he threw himself into the game."

Is worth getting a few games into, has the potential up forward and could also play that loose man in defense role too, certainly has the strong marking and long, accurate kicking to be dangerous and with a rumour re Hendo perhaps not staying on next year may be worth investing in. Similar to Hendo, I doubt he can hold down a key defensive post though.

Given Sanderson comments above I dont think we can expect too many changes.

Outs: Danger Wright Jaensch
Ins: Grigg Johnston Kerridge

I was at last weeks game in Melbourne and I have to say that Matt Wright was horrible. I was watching him closely and he wasnt chasing or even watching the ball at times. Similar to his efforts highlighted by Roosy on the couch against the Eagles and not to mention his costly handball straight to Luke Ball. The sub vest was justified.

Oh Sando, please don't select Callinan... don't play it safe and pick the old, slow but dependable small forward playing "ok to pretty good" football at SANFL level while ignoring the red-hot form of a young midfielder who is absolutely tearing it up for the top side in the SANFL. JUST PLAY GRIGGY!!!

Also, how is Petrenko in the mix? The bloke gets dropped AGAIN, plays 1 good game in the SANFL then gets knocked out last week... surely he needs a couple more games in the SANFL.

Holy **** me dead shit.

So, he's been rubbish all year, but give him nine days and his groin will clear up and he'll be back to his best? Look I know it's footy people talking but JFSMC did anyone at the club think maybe getting him right early in the season would be a good idea, so we weren't carrying him through i don't know the first 16 rounds?????

What I'd like to see and what I expect to see are two very different things.

Like:
OUT: Danger (inj), Wright, Thompson (inj), Jaensch
IN: Grigg, Hartigan, Johnston, Petrenko*

Expect:
OUT: Danger (inj)
IN: Grigg

* Pets gets the nod mostly due to a lack of other viable alternatives (Callinan & Tambling are not viable alternatives).

Yes I have, and he's anything but my favourite player. Have you seen Jacobs (try to) run, chase, or tackle? And having said that, at least McKernan gets around the ground and has some vague semblance of agility around the contests. Before he had that idiotic "brain fade" the other week and smashed that opponent in the face with his elbow, he was presenting better than any Crows Key Position player all year, except perhaps Rutten.
Whether people criticise me or not, any Tall Timber we might have - I want footy players....not just Ruckmen. And I'd gladly concede a few more Tap-Outs (which we're not getting, regardless), in favour of blokes that can run and chase. And as it's been stated again and again in the AFL Media, winning Ruck-Taps does not always equate to winning Clearances - happening more and more often.

That game was the only time in his entire AFL career that Smack has ever looked even vaguely like an AFL player.

As AFL ruckmen go, he is one of the worst regular rucks in the competition. As forwards go.. let's just say that his forward play makes his rucking look like a work of genius. He doesn't have a footy brain.

Last week he showed that he could actually mark the ball. He still can't kick to save his life and his decision making was beyond terrible. He has all the grace, coordination & agility of a newly born giraffe.

If I were given a choice between Jacobs and Smack, it would be Jacobs every single day of the week.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Sando, but a temporary "brain fade" here? Or (knowledge-inhibiting) drug use?
Thommo back to his best....at any stage this season? o_O  o_O

Will be extremely disappointed if they select Callinan at this point in the season.

See no point in that when we need to get games into a Grigg, Kerridge or Lyons.

We have some seriously fickle supporters. A poorish season after an excellent 2012, and all of a sudden they have lost interest and our games are boring. Give me a break. The posters who are feeling this really surprise me as well, I expect it from a few on here, but not guys like Kane McGoodwin, Dandy_GO etc.

I am going to miss my first home game for the year this week as I'll be on a plane back from the US, and I'm absolutely gutted I won't get to see our boys up against the best side of the modern era.

My passion for the club is as strong as ever, and years like this just make you hungrier for the next season to see some success. I also can't wait for footy at AO.
If you read my posts you would note that my loss of love for the Crows is nothing to do with their on-field performance (we had worse years under Shaw I supported), but with the current management ruining out on-field success including chances to win flags & that this has been deemed acceptable to many like your good-self. Apologies for having high expectations of wanting the best for my club... & gather you are happy for us to be a middle of the road side.

Wholeheartedly disagree on your comments on Callinan. The lad can seriously play. Would be nice if he got a few more possessions, but again, he can play. I'm just angry we didn't recruit him years earlier when he was younger.
But Tambling? No offence to the lad on personal level, but in terms of a "good choice"....that was the biggest recruiting nose dive into the sewer since that clepto-junky-halfwit we recruited decades ago (sorry....can't recall his name). If someone remembers his name?....much appreciated.

Agreed. As much as I hate to admit it, we have absolutely nothing to gain by playing Callinan now.
