Whos gonna be the sub tho?? Lyons, Hendo, Tambling and Grigg on the bench. Grigg looks likely to be sub unfortunatley! Better not be Lyons.
i'm tipping this is why Tambling is picked instead of Kerridge. They probably felt after a few weeks off injured he needs a full game this week. and he wasn't going to get it playing for the Crows.

The sky isn't falling with the Selection of Bling. We still have Lyons, Grigg, Brown and Laird playing so it's not like we're missing out on getting players games too much.

Tambling more than deserves his shot, probably his last one. His form at SANFL level has been very good, better than Kerros. The ridicule he gets is beyond ordinary, plus hes miles better than Jaensch.

Agree with the sentiment. Tambling isn't AFL standard but neither is Jaensch.

Given that Tambling is a 100 game player, the AFC set much higher standards for him than pretty much every other small on our list. Players like Jaensch spud it up every week and get consecutive games while Tambo can barely get a game despite having an extended run of good form in the SANFL. I don't really think it's fair but it's sort of a moot point given we know Tambling isn't good enough anyway.

The outrage here is so unjustified. Tambling has well and truly earned his place with good form throughout the year. We need speed and tackling pressure in the backline ( which jaensch has never provided ) and it gives him a last chance to make it at AFL level. Good luck to him and I hope he proves the doubters wrong. There is plenty of time for Kerridge to get games and they will come but give Tambling his last go.

On Grigg very excited to see him get a run, a hard running inside midfielder with a raking left foot is is something dynamic that we need. We tend to match up well with Geelong at AAmi not expecting a win but I don't think it will be a blowout.

The vitriol here should not be directed at Richard Tambling - rather, it should be directed at the selection panel of the AFC.

How you arrive at a situation where with six weeks to run on a three year contract, you still don't know whether a guy is part of your plans next year, can only be seen as a monumental failure of duty as a club. This guy has played, what 11 games in three years? Suddenly now, at 5 minutes to midnight, this poor bastard is thrown into the deep and end and told to save his career. Really, Adelaide? If he's not what we want, why haven't we decided by now? And if he is what we want, why haven't we been playing him?

What can Tambling possibly do at this point - other than suddenly play like Gary Ablett Jnr for six consecutive weeks - to remain on Adelaide's list in 2014? This is a task even some of the elites would struggle with. It is poor player management in the extreme.

The worst part of this monumental f*** up, is it is costing someone like Sam Kerridge a spot in the side.

All we get is Phil Harper every Thursday with the same old bullshit platitudes about selection. By the time the game is won and lost, we've all forgotten and the selection panel lives to fight another day.

Sanderson needs to answer some of these questions, and he needs to answer them very soon. If I hear one more time from Phil Harper that Kerridge or Lyons are having a "rest" i will SPEW UP.

It's great to see Grigg finally getting his chance, well done making your debut and good luck.
I don't mind Tambling getting a game, especially if it frees up Smith to go into the midefield. My guess though is that he will wear the green 'kiss of death' vest.
It's good to see the young guys in the team now, they have been exciting this year, when they have played.
I would have liked to see Hartigan replace Otten this week, I think he has a lot to offer also.
It's going to be a tough game but if we give Geelong a run for their money, it will be encouraging for next year.
Congratulations on Thommo's 200th, I hope he puts in a big one.

Speed of Jaensch replaced by Tambling .........only reason

How many times have Vince, Mackay, Porplyzia and van Berlo beed BOG this year.

Yep that's correct, between the 4 of them that would be one less time then Kerridge. And their collective form in the matches against Freo and Sydney:rolleyes:

Vince was BOG against the Eagles and arguably BOG against North Melbourne for a start.

Unsurprisingly most people pouring it on Vince are judging him by the wrong criteria, and using the wrong marking card. It's not 2009 anymore, he's not the same player and never will be again - which doesn't mean he can't make meaningful and critical contributions to the team, as he has done many times in 2013. He's still the best field kick we have by a huge margin, which has been demonstrated every week this season as everyone form Thompson, to Dangerfield, to Sloane, to Wright and van Berlo has butchered the ball like a country carnival player in comparison. Unfortunately the player he is now is far more reliant on the above winning their own battles first, not able to win his own ball as well as he could before the knee injury, fact of life.

Tambling surely

Normally I'd say Henderson, but we're already down a tall, even though he's also a runner which they'd like to bring on I think he'll start.

Too close to call, there's good arguments for and against Grigg being the sub.

Why Hendo?
Hes been in great form.

And there are no good arguments for Grigg. he is a nugget inside mid who loves a clearance, with an elite left leg. 2 things we need. He plays a full game.

Good post.

Our selections have been consistently appalling all year. Even Vader will have to admit that they ****ed up this week.

I don't get all the Vince hate this season either. I'd have him in my top 10 performed players this year.

Too close to call, there's good arguments for and against Grigg being the sub.
The only positive I can think of for starting a first gamer as the sub is that the heat might be out of the game by the time they come on. I actually see this as a negative anyway. The first game should be baptism of fire IMO, you survive that first 10 minutes and the rest of your career is a piece of cake!

1. Tambling has been among the best players in the entire SANFL this year; he has earned his spot.
2. Kerridge has played two games coming back from an injury
3. If Kedge had played this week there is probably a 90% chance he would have started as the sub. Probably benefits him more to get a full game in the SANFL to be honest.
You people are probably overreacting a tad

my conspiracy theory with tambling is they want to make him think hes only just part of their plans so that come re-contract time they can bargain him down to a decent price and a short length, so they've only played him sparingly to give him the on the outer impression. He's helped this by not playing well for the first 1.5 years he was here, but he's done well since about halfway through last year. Definitely worth keeping on the list if you can pay him a pay of a fringe player, not best dozen player.

Sando has said he doesn't think it's fair to start a debutant as the sub (when Crouch debuted) so I would assume that carries for Grigg as well.

If we are going to play Tambling I don't think it should be as a sub, but I can't see any other option with Henderson needed on the field and Lyons not deserving of the vest. Maybe if it's wet it will be Henderson.

really happy with bling and grigg in this week.

not sure why ppl are complaining about bling in, he has been excellent for sturt lately and has earnt a game, he cant do no more. same ppl complain when sanfl form isn't rewarded. bling will be a lot tougher than jaensh in defence, especially on this wet miserable weekend.

Given you have outsourced your opinion to the selectors, does it still hold in reverse when they pick one of your whipping bois?

Or is it only a valid standard when it suits?
There is not a snowball's chance in hell that I'll ever support or defend the selection of Tambling. Like everyone else here, I'm stoked that Grigg has finally been given a chance - and majorly pissed off that they're wasting another game on a player whose AFL career has 7 weeks left to run.

Really??? Well in your opinion at least.

Back in the real world, neither our coaches nor the opposition coaches named Bernie in the best 5 on ground in the North Melbourne and West Coast matches. In fact the only votes that Bernie has received this year in the nAFL Coaches Association Award is 2 votes against GWS.

Bernie has been useful in a few matches this year but hardly ripped the games apart.
