The vitriol here should not be directed at Richard Tambling - rather, it should be directed at the selection panel of the AFC.

How you arrive at a situation where with six weeks to run on a three year contract, you still don't know whether a guy is part of your plans next year, can only be seen as a monumental failure of duty as a club. This guy has played, what 11 games in three years? Suddenly now, at 5 minutes to midnight, this poor bastard is thrown into the deep and end and told to save his career. Really, Adelaide? If he's not what we want, why haven't we decided by now? And if he is what we want, why haven't we been playing him?

What can Tambling possibly do at this point - other than suddenly play like Gary Ablett Jnr for six consecutive weeks - to remain on Adelaide's list in 2014? This is a task even some of the elites would struggle with. It is poor player management in the extreme.

The worst part of this monumental f*** up, is it is costing someone like Sam Kerridge a spot in the side.

All we get is Phil Harper every Thursday with the same old bullshit platitudes about selection. By the time the game is won and lost, we've all forgotten and the selection panel lives to fight another day.

Sanderson needs to answer some of these questions, and he needs to answer them very soon. If I hear one more time from Phil Harper that Kerridge or Lyons are having a "rest" i will SPEW UP.

If your looking for accountability your barracking for the wrong club.

Your right though. Tambling has been mismanaged from the day he got here. This year his only chances have been against Hawthorn and now Geelong. Talk about throwing the guy into the deep end. Yeah you could argue that he's a 100 game player and should be able to handle it but so many of our other players have shown the same sort of form and gotten a run of games.

Our backline is hardly solid. We could of tried pushing Mackay forward (given he can't defend for shit) and given Tambling a go down back. At least bling can actually tackle and assert himself in a physical contest. Instead we persevere with players like Jaensch and Mackay who don't have any physical presence whatsoever.

Great post mate.

Same goes with Martin - find out one way or another, and then make a decision.

We drift along aimlessly.

The rotation policy is a massive fail.

We have senior players who have had an extended run of poor form, we drop them for one week, bring them back in and they still stink. It's bad policy for two reasons. The first is that dropping a player for one week is hardly going to put the fear into them. Secondly, bringing in a youngster for one game and dropping them the next is hardly going to help them build form and confidence.

So far Bernie Vince is the only player I can think of who has actually come back better. Aside from that, the selection policy has been terrible.

Really??? Well in your opinion at least.

Back in the real world, neither our coaches nor the opposition coaches named Bernie in the best 5 on ground in the North Melbourne and West Coast matches. In fact the only votes that Bernie has received this year in the nAFL Coaches Association Award is 2 votes against GWS.

Bernie was "Best on ground until he got knocked out" according to most observers, then failed to make the votes in any of the press or league competitions. ABC891 even managed to say it and immediately follow with their votes in which he wasn't in the top 3 Crows, let alone on the ground against the Eagles, so figure that one out. ABC actually gave all 3-2-1 to Eagles players, and in Crows terms gave 3 votes to Henderson, who didn't feature in the coaches votes.

Bernie has been useful in a few matches this year but hardly ripped the games apart.

There you go again, judging by the wrong standards. This is not 2009, you're looking at the wrong things, he will never "rip the game apart" like he did to Essendon in that final because his body isn't up to it anymore, instead he makes his impact in other ways, but relies more on our inside brigade winning the ball first - that they haven't been winning the ball has been a detriment to our receivers. He's been quality all year.

tambling has been awesome in SANFL recently along with Grigg, but who knows maybe they havent made their mind up yet about delisting him.
I just dont know what his best role is, wouldnt mind him playing the varcoe role.

I really want to see Hartigan and Thompson before season ends.

1. Tambling has been among the best players in the entire SANFL this year; he has earned his spot.
2. Kerridge has played two games coming back from an injury
3. If Kedge had played this week there is probably a 90% chance he would have started as the sub. Probably benefits him more to get a full game in the SANFL to be honest.
You people are probably overreacting a tad
1. Tambling is shit and will be gone at seasons end
2. Kerridge missed one game
3. Kerridge starts as the sub only because our selectors are ****ed, DMack or Wright should fill that role.

Tambling is 20x the player you never were.
Actually he's 50x the player I never was but that's irrelevant. He shouldn't be picked because he's not up to standard. This is another **** up in a season of cocked up selections. Look at Jaensch, he shouldn't have been two weeks ago let alone last week, then guess what happens? He's dropped which is proof his selection over the last 2 weeks was a mistake.

He's a midfielder, he doesn't have the disposal and make himself damaging, that is required to play the role we've been trying to play him in. Get him around the footy and we might actually get him to use his hardness, pace and tackling ability to good effect.

PlAying him probably will be about as successful an experiment as playing Symes late last year was, but if he is to succeed it will be as a midfielder.

Can you somehow force your way onto the coaches box?

He has played a hand full of games over 3 years and each time he gets another crack its back to the same spot he got dropped from.
Surely after all this time someone sitting in the coaches box is capable of deciding it hasn't worked/they don't like what they see from Tambo in defense and its time to try him in a different spot.
If they don't believe he can play another spot he shouldn't be playing.

I'm betting we will see the same garbage from the coaches only to see him dropped the week after.

BTW I'm also one that believes Tambo has been monumentally mis-managed by this club and by 2 separate coaches.

Ive lost faith with most of our coaches cept Milburn.
Tambling is a disaster in defence and im not a huge fan of his in the midf. I think coaches have mismanaged him the past.

I try to think which player he most reminds me of in the AFL in terms of attributes. And for me he reminds me of Varocoe. So why not give him the opportunity to play that role?

Well Ive lost faith with Sando, the buck stops with him.
I have also never rated Clarke, listening to him is hard work and generally don't like what comes out his mouth.

At the end of the day you are right, he needs to be tried somewhere else.

Lets see what Sunday brings!!

Great to see Grigg & Bling in. Hopefully Grigg gets a run through the midfield and shows his clearance skills. He is one of the few natural footballers in our team.... and wow a left footer, and someone who can actually kick. Furthermore, I don't actually think that he is much, if at all, slower than Jaensch on the field.

I'm elated - because, believe it or not , Bling has been my favourite AFL player since he started with Richmond.
Despite the harsh criticism he gets on here, he has more than deserved his spot - its a pity that he hasn't been played as an inside midfielder, which I believe has always been his true position, but he has been played everywhere else instead.

I'm resigned to him being delisted, nevertheless, I think that he has been harshly treated by the selectors.

Inside midf? he would get beaten up badly.
Do you think he could play up forward/Half forward? I thought thats where he played most of his jnr footy.

Must give you credit for having so much faith in Tambling.

I've said for weeks Tambling > Jaensch, and at times over the past couple years that Tambling could be better than Petrenko in the small forward role.

Dont get me wrong, i wouldn't have selected him, but now he is in please try him in forward half.

But we all know nothing will change, he'll play crap down back, get dropped after one week.

"You go out there and do better!!!"

That's you, that's what you sound like.
You kinda sound like the weak as piss bloke who hops on some ones back to try and make a friend. (Don't believe the comment was directed to you)

Any how was more about the Tambling is shit comment, Elite is better than that, any player who makes it to 100 games is not a shit player, they are a player with enough skills/ determination to make most of the rest of us look like "real" shit.

Should have made my point better but refer above to what I meant. Tambling is shit, is a shit assessment. Mind you, me saying what I did made me sound like G. Cornes (how many games have you played) and shit, that's bad.:)

I remember reading somewhere that, as a junior, Bling did indeed play as an inside mid. When he was drafted though they wanted to get him in immediately but felt his body could not withstand that position at AFL level - fair enough.

The problem for Bling is he never got back there. Since he has been with us he has been pigeon holed as a defender.

I don't mind him getting a go but FFS how about we just accept that he has never been, nor will he ever be , a creative running defender . If he was, he would have made the position his own. Why not try something different, give him a tagging job, put him forward and tell him to lay 10 tackles, give a spell in the midfield - try something, anything.

With all that said, watch them move Smith to mid and Bling to Smiths role

Nobody here claims they are better than Richard Tambling at football, but that doesn't mean they can't criticise the dismal performance he has offered the Crows since being here, and the dismal performance he offered Richmond before getting here. What we look like in comparison on the football field is irrelevant. When you go and see a movie and it's shit, do you refrain from calling it shit because you couldn't make a better movie yourself?
