Under normal circumstances I totally agree with you. To be honest I would still turn up every week if we spent a few years around the bottom 6 as I'm not deluded enough to think you can win a premiership without getting those top 7 picks. But what I wont do is keep blindly handing over my $$ each week when we have a management/administration who treat the supporterbase with such contempt. Unless you're a complete robot the feeling of hopelessness that I now feel towards my club will eventually turn to disinterest.
Must admit for the 1st time since the inception of the Crows, I'm feeling the same way. I hardly missed a game until this season unless I was not in the state/country or had an important birthday ... but this year (even prior to the on-field season turning to shyte) it had lost its gloss for me. The last home game I chose to watch the game on the couch rather than the wet conditions at Footy Park, because I no longer have the same love for the club. Even when we were useless under Robert Shaw, I would turn up rain/hail. I'm numb from the hopelessness that we have a terrible management who have harmed the club I love & they are going to stay on despite turning AFC from a powerhouse into an also-ran. These drafting penalties are going to make it near on possible to challenge for a flag, when we had an exciting group of players coming through, but we are going to struggle to keep the talent topped up.

And I think that's the answer to why the club is so hellbent on putting out there that they haven't given up hope for finals this year - and why they keep playing Thommo.

There are some diehards - I'm one. But seats are also occupied by people who go with the diehards - like my wife and 3 girls (the 3 girls are getting more diehard ;) ).

So this weekend for instance I've scored a spot in our company box to schmooze with clients - the rest of us (4 seats) are not going. In all honesty my wife thinks the 3 girls alone is too hard (despite my brother being there to help her out and the fact his GF could now go and help also) but we both agreed - its harder to get excited when we're playing so poorly.

Non-diehards drop off FAST. That costs the club money - and unfortunately the balance of money vs investing in the future requires a steady income stream as well. Tough decisions to make.

But for mine - rest Thommo and stick Lyons in the guts this week.

You can add me to the list. My old man and I have gone to almost every home game for 20 years. We've had moments where we've talked about not renewing our memberships, but this seems like the year we'll actually follow through. The "corporation" tag Port fans love to give to us has never fit so well. The continued blatant lies to supporters, a fan poll for the new jumper where the results were completely ignored, gold members only in the after match function room, "pathetic", an administration that has taken us to zero grand finals in 15 years, a drop in crowds, a loss of more key players to expansion clubs than any other team, building a high cost performance centre at an obsolete stadium, the whole Rendell thing and the double standards it presented, losing so much from dodgy dealings, refusing to ever stand up to the AFL who persistently bully us. I could just go on and on about the failures of this administration.

And yet they're all still there.

I think I'm done. Very little interest in buying a membership next year.

They're called the Adelaide Football Club but I'm struggling to feel like I'm a part of the club at all. Inclusive, my arse.

You should paste and copy this and send it to the afc.
Well done
You know we say these things but nothing ever happens. YOU ARE RIGHT

In all seriousness - if we were winning more games this year would your opinions change?

I've no intention of letting my membership slide despite feeling very frustrated with the administration. I love riding the roller coaster with the club and at some point can disassociate the enjoyment in the teams efforts from the administration.

I reckon one of the things that drives the administrations decisions is how quickly they fear people will drop off their support when things don't look good. So they focus on making things look good as opposed to making hard decisions to achieve ultimate success. Have a think about that before throwing the towel in.

I can handle losing - when we put our best team on the park and play to the best of our ability.

Not when we don't, and when we get fed complete crap from the coaching and admin staff.

In: Grigg, Hartigan, Kerridge, Johnston
Out: Dangerfield (inj.), Thompson (inj.), Jaensch (omit), Wright (omit)

The season is done so bring in Grigg and Hartigan and Johnston had another dominant game in the SANFL. Bring him in, if he isn't ready now, he never will be

As usual due to injury and form we have a ton of changes we can make.

Firstly those not considered who need another week in SANFL to get back up to speed/form but will be pressing for the week after are Petrenko (concussion, may not even play but basically missed all of the match he just played), Martin, Shaw, plus the suspended McKernan.

That leaves Grigg, Hartigan, Johnston and Kerridge as the deserved INS.

OUTS are the injured Dangerfield (and with him any chance we had of a miraculous victory), Jaensch can chew his gum with Sturt, Otten can build on his 4 possession display with South (though did a decent defensive job when required), and whoever is banged up most out of Wright/Thompson can have the week off also.

Sub is whoever survives out of Wright/Thompson (probably Thompson as they would play him in a wheelchair if required). Sure they wont provide much run but the game will be slower when they come on and Thompson particularly can help the young team out on the bench ala Giansiracusa and rest his injury a bit.

On Notice: Mackay, Jacobs, van Berlo (c) , Jenkins, Thompson (vc).

IN: Grigg, Petrenko, Johnston, Kerridge
OUT: Danger, Jaensch, Mackay, Vince

Had enough of the blonde twinks. You would've thought the 2 week break would be a wake up call to Mackay but obviously not. Weak as piss Friday night. Soft as butter at every contest and is looking like he will never change. What worries me is how someone could get kicked out of the side and come back 2 weeks later only to play JUST AS BAD, IF NOT WORSE as he did in the games before he got dropped. It suggests that Mackay is one of Sando's favourites which doesn't sit well with me. Happy to delist at years end. Will likely fulfil his potential elsewhere but I don't care anymore. He is not in our best 22.

Vince can follow him for all I care. The guy has had too many opportunities to prove himself and continually fails. Vince is the guy in school that had the report card "would achieve so much more if he applied himself, does as little as possible to pass" ... the 18-22 possession plus 1 junk time goal game doesn't cut it anymore for someone that has been around for so long.

Sad, but so very true of my situation too. The club seems to be ever so surely pushing me to support the Gold Coast who are my adopted 2nd team.

Petrenko was knocked out after garnering 1 possession for the Eagles on the weekend, he won't be playing for the Crows this week.

Found this interesting titbit hidden away in an article on the AFL website and probably confirms what a lot of us have suspected.

Begs the question, why the **** hasn't he been rested before now? If true, a truly baffling decision by Sando and company!

Isn't it also the case that Thommo has a clause in his contract that triggers an extra year based on certain performance measures?

If there's even a hint that the coaches have taken a soft approach - or worse, let Thommo dictate the situation - with respect to whether he plays week to week then it says a lot about the club and our approach.

Ok, I was in Melbourne so I was unaware. Bring in Kerridge then, may as well blood the kids as the season is shot.

Given all the dead wood we have to offload this year, I would be very surprised if he wasn't signed for another 12 months regardless of whether he achieves those performance measures.

Just read this article and the fifth to last paragraph didn't fill me with hope that selections are going to change much. Think the first thing Bailey has to do is slap Sando across the face and say wake up to yourself.

But the prospect of the Crows benching experienced players to look at youth - in particular defender Kyle Hartigan and midfielder Mitch Grigg - is not being eagerly accepted by Sanderson, particularly if it leaves the impression Adelaide has closed its season.
