You're not seriously suggesting that we should play Smack as a lead ruck? Now I know you're trolling.

The other two scenarios are plausible. Otten vs LJ is exceedingly unlikely. JJ vs LJ is possible, but highly doubtful given that LJ has never been preferred to.. well, anybody really.

Not trolling.

Jacobs is a waste of a spot at present.

Graham is a non entity.

SMcK is a good ruckman, and the more game time we can pump into him, the better.

Jacobs as he is now is playing better than McKernan ever has, and at this stage appears ever will.

Playing McKernan as the main ruckman is idiocy when he can't even hold his end up as the second ruck.

Kedge should be back in, Grigg also. LJ if he pulls up ok but im not fussed on him really. Will we risk Patty, he'll wanna play no doubt. If not then Thommo gets a stay of execution. I dont like the idea of going in with a midfield of Sloane, Lyons, Crouch and Grigg against Geelong.

Embrace adversity.

Throw those kids into the fire - it's only one game, and you couldn't ask for a better learning experience.

Jacobs can't hold his own either - at least we get value out of McKernan getting game time.

Sam Jacobs was in the top 3 vote getters for triple M worse on ground.

FWT - Andy Otten was worse on ground.
While Jacobs wasn't great in the ruck, I thought his work around the ground was better than normal. He seemed to take more marks than usual and used his body in the contests more, or is that just me remembering it wrong? I wouldn't have had him in the three worst.

Let's face it.. there's no way of getting any value out of McKernan.. He's borderline acceptable as a 2nd ruck. There's no way on earth anyone in their right mind could suggest playing him as a lead ruck.

Is he any chance of making it as a permanent forward?

Less than there is of him making it in the ruck. Can mark, can't kick - and his decision making is beyond terrible.

So delist? Why do you think in Vic they mention him as an "emerging talent"?

Because they're pretty much clueless about anyone other than Rutten, Talia, Dangerfield, Sloane, Walker & Thompson. No change really from all the other blunders they've made when commenting on our list over the last decade or two.

Considering our best midfielders this year have been Douglas, Dangerfield and Vince, and our most disappointing have been Thompson, van Berlo, Sloane and Wright, along with some up and down performances from Smith, Kerridge, Crouch and Lyon, I don't think it's fair to say either the experienced or inexperienced midfielders have been carrying or letting the side down as a group.

I think you are taking a very pessimistic view. Apart from the obvious management issues which we can do nothing about now, ive been very happy with a lot of young players this year. Jenkins is a key forward who mind you came to football late is performing very admiraly for his 25 game career on the best key backmen week in week out with an underperforming midfield all year.

Brown, Crouch, Laird, Lynch are now getting close to walk up starting 22 with Kerridge and Lyons hovering around to join that group eventually. All these players are under 22 and I think are performing above expectations. It feels as If the small forwards haven't been getting a hold of us lately which is a huge positive for the club.

I think the future looks a lot brighter than it has for a while. The lost draft picks will hurt no doubt but the addition of free agency could minimize the damage if we play our cards right. There is no history to free agency and weve never been backed into a corner like this before forcing us to be active In trade week. Im excited as theres a lot of talk around the club that numerous players aren't adverse to coming to the club which is good news. Were just going to have to wait and see.

How do we get any value out of playing as first ruckman a guy who has not won his position as the backup ruckman in a single game of his career?

He's not ever going to be a first choice ruckman, so there's no value at all in playing him as one when any career he has left is as a forward who can relieve in the ruck.

Against the Eagles I saw a player take a strong contested mark, wheel around and kick the opening goal of the game and thought "I hope this gets him fired up for once". 2 minutes later he threw a ridiculous elbow for no reason, with no provocation, and then aside from one or two more strong marks after half time essentially vanished for the rest of the game. That's the player you want to 'get value from'? If we trade him on we'd be fortunate to get what we paid for Angus Graham, and there's very little that can be done to change that now.

I think you are taking a very pessimistic view.

My point was that it was inaccurate and oversimplifying to suggest that any one "age group" of midfielders has been letting the team down, when the facts show that there have been excellent players and underperforming players from both groups.

He's still 21, isn't he?

He's got talent, he just needs time.

He'll be 23 before the end of the season - this is his 5th year on our list, which is the same number of years fellow tweener ruck-forward Sellar had.

Talent isn't often questioned, but he has no brain, and no desire.

and we give Jacobs 1 (probably all...) of the following;

a kick up the ass
a rest if he's labouring from the workload
a rest if he's carrying an injury
a chance to gain some mojo back in the SANFL

I think we should have dropped him weeks ago. I'm fully aware we don't have a capable replacement, but that's not the point.

Insert S Thompson for the above comment too. except the lack of capable replacement part.

What no-one prepared to push for L.Thompson's inclusion in this weeks team ?

Wasn't he this board next big thing .......what no supporters?

I don't recall anyone on this board saying L Thompson will be the next big thing. However, we often hear from you as to how great a football judge YOU are. Me, me, me..

Found this interesting titbit hidden away in an article on the AFL website and probably confirms what a lot of us have suspected.

Fellow Crows gun Scott Thompson might finally succumb to a groin problem he has battled for much of the season.

Begs the question, why the **** hasn't he been rested before now? If true, a truly baffling decision by Sando and company!
