Thommo has no defensive side and is responsible for performances of Hannebry, Prestia and last night Pendlebury. Swan

He is either injured or in some poor form. Still getting the ball, but is completely unaccountable at the moment.

Give Lyons his role.

Out Danger, Thommo, Jeanch
In Grigg, Petrenko, Tambling
Close but our 'inspirational' skipper was the one that let Pendles have a career high.

OK.. 25. We would have said good-bye to Reilly, VB, Mackay, Douglas, Porplyzia and Jacobs. We don't have any replacements for Jacobs, so I'm not sure who the BF collective would have doing the rucking. Thompson, Rutten & Dangerfield would be our only 100+ game players.

As for my record of writing off players.. I'm still waiting for the evidence that I've been wrong with writing off any of the players named!

To be perfectly honest, right at the moment we'd be better off playing 4 midfielders and attempting to read the tap. Better than Sauce winning it and putting it down the oppositions throat or Sauce losing it and letting it go down the oppositions throat.

What ever happened to the days when a big ruckman losing the taps just smashed the ball forward? It would seem a much better option than tapping to the opposition. I remember Rehn rucking at points where he just decided to punch the ball forward at all costs

Was it Sandilands or Nick Nat who did that during the derby Sunday?

How many times has he done this right in front of the opposition's goal this year?

He looks like he doesn't give a shit this year. No intensity, no smarts, just a big red potato.

Forget it - this season is over and the Crows will get thumped by Geelong.
We need to concentrate on:
  • Preparing for next year by getting game time into our youngsters by dropping/resting our veterans. While choosing which rookies to play may be a bit of a challenge, choosing which veterans to rest/drop should be as easy as cracking open a beer.
  • Cutting ties with the SANFL and getting a new Crows constitution in place to vote out Trigg and the Board.

Beautifully put :hearts:. Should be Knighted for your comments.

I wouldn't be looking at "either/or"....I'd be dropping both of them - Thommo and Captain Invisible.
Thommo to rest his obvious injuries. Van Berlo to be dropped....permanently.

Jacobs does the most spot on, razor sharp, precision Ruck tap-work....straight to opposition Midfielders. They can shut their eyes and just hold their arms out....the footy goes straight to them. Bl00dy ridiculous . And for years the Crows Midfelders haven't been able to read the taps from opposition Ruckmen - needs to change now. We can start by dropping Sauce and fielding an extra Rookie Midfielder that can actually run. Oh, and Clarke can join Sauce to watch from the Grandstand. "Incompetent" doesn't even begin to describe those two.

I know. He was doing it all last year too! Not a ruckman's arse hole.

Can't ruck delist! NOW!

Oh, great plan. We just won't play any ruckmen. Obviously you're not content with simply losing the clearances, and want us to get smashed there instead. Well... even more smashed :p

Jacobs is having a down season but last year his hitout to advantage ratio was very good. If we are to drop Jacobs, it can only be to bring in another ruckman, and unless we promote McKernan to the first ruck spot (and to be fair to him, he played that role well when we subbed Jacobs out earlier in the year) I'm afraid it's everyone's favourite recruit in Graham that will step into the role, not another midfielder.

The concept of playing no ruckmen and fielding an extra midfielder instead is probably the most ludicrous of the common ideas floated around here. It doesn't work, it's never worked, it won't work. It's an awful, awful strategy that is doomed to failure and also guarantees some poor utility player is going to get the shit belted out of him all night by a ruckmen 20kg bigger than him.

Did you even watch the second half? VB was the one who completely nullified Swan, after he tore us up in the first. But don't let the truth get in the way of mindlessly bashing a player

Grigg would have to be in this week wouldn't he? has been dominating at SANFL level so I would expect him to be next in line

It's not that bad this year either, it's just way down on last year.

He's 3rd in total hitouts.

IMO it should be

Kerridge in for Dangerfield (like for like as best can be)
Grigg in for Jaensch
Johnson in for Otten with Johnson going forward or back.

David MacKay will start as the sub

Whoever we put into the Ruck, Jacobs just isn't cutting it, that's all there is to it. I prefer playing McKernan, because unlike Sauce, he can actually move around the ground - run, lead, take marks, show aggression (although can be stupid) - actually play footy in general field play. He might be a worse Ruckman than Sauce, but at least he can run and play footy. Jacobs just lands his precision-taps in the hands of the best opposition Midfielders, and bugger all else.

And with Clarke - after years and years, he just hasn't caught on to the fact that with Old School Ruck Tap-Work....opposition Midfielders have learnt to "shark" Ruck-taps from opposition Ruckmen. Yet he persists with his nonsense approach.

Pendles was very good in the 1st half, but I'm not sure anyone in the league can stop him at the moment. His last month has been ridiculous.

Don't get me wrong, I don't rate VB highly, but he had a better game, and has had a better overall season than Thommo. Thommo needs surgery or a fortnight of rest or both.

We have some seriously fickle supporters. A poorish season after an excellent 2012, and all of a sudden they have lost interest and our games are boring. Give me a break. The posters who are feeling this really surprise me as well, I expect it from a few on here, but not guys like Kane McGoodwin, Dandy_GO etc.

I am going to miss my first home game for the year this week as I'll be on a plane back from the US, and I'm absolutely gutted I won't get to see our boys up against the best side of the modern era.

My passion for the club is as strong as ever, and years like this just make you hungrier for the next season to see some success. I also can't wait for footy at AO.

And who was on Pendles in the first half when he carved us up?
Pendles 1st half was ok (nothing like his 2nd half), it was Swan killing us then (who was head to head with Danger for the most part). Pendles got off the chain when we put Thommo onto him, while VB went to Swan and kept him to 9 touches and no influence the half.

VB, since going back into a pure midfield tagging role, has been excellent. Do some research, and you'll find the stats support this view too.

His season certainly isn't up to the standards of last year, which is why he cops so much shit on here, but he's still one of the better rucks going around. The first half against Collingwood was poor, but his 2nd half was excellent.

He is also 4th in hitouts to advantage.

I dont doubt he's a good tagger and has been doing some good jobs since returning to the only position at which he can fit into the side.
I did see Pendlebury a lot in the first half. And although Swan was the one that people noticed I think that Pendlebury was just as damaging in that first half. His 2nd half was flashy with some amazing vision hand-balls etc. and to me thats why people think it was so much better than the first.

The funny thing is, as far as we know VB is fully fit. Mind boggling. At least Thommo has a reason for diminished form (maybe he shouldn't be playing).
