Disagree, the kid can certainly play the game, he was a fantastic player at u18 level and as all inside midfielders that aren't of a freakish man-child physique, do take time to get their bodies right for the transition to AFL. I don't think there is any better example then our own Ben Cunnington, who up until late last year and this year, was not replicating his u18 form at the top level. It's because like KPP, inside midfielders do take time to develop to the rigours of AFL level, their body size and engines do need to improve dramatically, which is why people questioning their ability before they even have an ample opportunity is so f*cking stupid.

Maybe. I see the strengths and weaknesses of Cunners and Jacobs as quite different, regardless of whether they are inside players. One thing about Cunners was that you could never question his attack on the footy, and vision in close.

Time will tell, good luck to him if he can turns things around (and stay injury free) to start playing some decent footy.

I don't know Saintly. There seems to be a mob on here that drag youngsters through the mud if they don't hit the ground running, and then those who want Harper in EVERY bloody week even though he isn't performing in the VFL (not to mention bringing in other youngsters). I'm sure there is some overlap there. A lot of impatient sods.

Agreed. I'm sure even if he played as an inside mid it'll be "played well but let player X (Geelongs highest possession getter) pick up 35 possessions." I still think he could be our Brad Sewell!!!

Yep, it all over the place I agree regarding selections changes, sometimes from one extreme to the other! So there is probably overlap as you say.

That will probably happen re; Greenwood. If every player in our team was judged on what their(apparent) opposite number did, then we basically wouldn't be able to pick a midfield week to week.

Are you basically judging your analysis of Jacobs on the few games he played earlier this year and the occasional game you saw him play at Port? Because you can't surely be basing this on his VFL form which has been extremely consistent.

And if so, Cunners obviously was exposed to a lot more AFL footy as he was straight into the 1s when drafted, whereas Jacobs has had limited opportunities due to the strength of the side compared to a couple years ago. Cunners looked as much of a fish out of water as Jacobs did, however got to push it out in the AFL a lot longer.

It's amazing how short peoples memories are, I remember writing this exact same thing about Ben10 when people were claiming he was no good.

I dont doubt Greenwoods attack on the man or the footy but I do doubt his ball use. I dont see him in our best team in the seasons to come.

Jacobs on the other hand has the potential to be a two way mid and best 22 going forward. Lets give him the opportunity on the big stage and see how he measures up.

The disposal efficiency is something that keeps getting thrown in his face yet this year he's traveling at 76.6%
Boomer - 78.1 %
Wells - 72.1 %
Ziebell - 60.4 %
Swallow - 69.8 %
Cunnington - 67.9 %
McKenzie - 75.9 %

He also showed what he was capable of against Brisbane when he placed a perfectly weighted kicking to one of our leading forwards whilst busting out of a pack.

Clanger average (pg):
Levi - 2.2
Boomer - 2.2
Wells - 2.2
Ziebell - 3.4
Swallow - 2.9
Cunnington - 2.5
McKenzie - 1.2

Seems to me that Jacobs has better VFL form than Levi.

Isn't that what we want rewarded?

Having watched BJ in SA a fair bit he's not the best at reading where to go. He often gets lots at stoppages but when the ball does fall his way he goes hard. I've never seen him play like he belongs at AFL level.

So the faith has been restored in Patch again? No-one calling for his head this week. How quickly people forgive and/or forget?

Levi for Swallow

Probably just the concession that its not going to happen.

Jacobs is more half-back flanker than bonafide midfielder, Levi gets the nod:thumbsu:

No that's where Port Primus tried to play him

Fixed the quote. Primus had nfi. Like Craig who refused to play Dangerfield in the middle.

Fixed again.

lol

I dunno. I am not sure Atley has done much when he has gone in the middle. He is not really working as hard as fishy is at present.

Interested in why the Kangas tend to play well at Etihad, particularly against Geelong. Is it the fast midfield/fast surface thing?
