If they were fully fit I'd agree, but with Motlop and Christensen out injured that need is less pronounced. They've got a few other quick players in Travis Varcoe and Jordan Murdoch, but while those guys are decent they're not really of a high enough quality that we should be considering changing our 22 to counter them.

Motlop made his return to the VFL yesterday. Apparently was managed pretty carefully in terms of game time though, so it'd be a shock if he was immediately recalled.

Of all the games I want us to win this season, this probably ranks highest. In terms of rivalries, hatreds or whatever, Geelong is by far our biggest in my eyes. The win in 2007, knocking us out of the finals last year and beating us consistently for God knows how long makes this a huge one for me.

I'll be interested to see how Butcher shapes up in the Magpies, if he's in form he'll be crucial to us winning. Wingard needs some time to rest, his last goal was great for our win last night but his overall form was nowhere up to standard. Everyone looked absolutely battered from last night, based on the SANFL game there will probably be a few changes this week.

Only changes needed will probably be through injury or fatigue.

Having said that, I would like to maybe see Moore to be an in for his body strength - if he plays a blinder against WWT.
And Hombsch, if recovered, may give flexibility with Jacko & Hoff able to be used in multi facetted roles.

I heard at the post game function he (Monfries) may be back this week.
We saw yesterday with Wingard what rushing people back under-cooked can mean. Look at Geelong playing Motlop back through the reserves. At this stage of the season I say that is the way to go. If next week was a final I'd be more prepared to risk bringing Gus back, but with 75% of the H&A to go I'd rather we take it slowly with return of injured players.

Agreed.I think Wingard got a knock to his ankle early as well that didn't help, but he still stood up in the last quarter and should've kicked 3 rather then the 1 after he got walloped by Glass.I thought he stood up well when required other then that he had a dog of a day.

It's been talked about for a while but we need an extra tall up forward. Our forward line looked much more threatening before we dropped Butcher. We shouldn't give him a gold pass but if he performs reasonably well tomorrow he should come in.

Sam Gray looked a bit lost so it might be time to bring in a more experienced midfielder like Moore or Stewart. O'Shea played poorly in the first half, and Hombsch and Clurey have increased the competition for the third tall defender spot so he may be an out depending on how they play and whether they're fit.

At this stage

Out: Wingard, S Gray, O'Shea
In: Butcher, Moore, Clurey

No it hasn't, not in the slightest. Our forward line isn't being ripped a new one by everyone else's tall defenders - we will be second on the ladder after tomorrow.

Looked but wasn't, that's why he was dropped.

Reasonably threatening against Woodville-West Torrens does not warrant a recall against one of the best football teams in a generation. I'm happy for Butch to come in if he earns a spot but he needs to blitz it tomorrow to do so.[/quote]

Were you watching all the easy marks in defence that Glass, Mackenzie and Cox were taking last night? Or the amount of times that players like Gray and Boak found themselves matched up against an All-Australian full back who they had no hope of beating in the air? The fact that we won doesn't necessarily mean our forward line was working. We only kicked 10 goals from 61 inside 50's, that's not a good record.

I just think that the team with Butcher is better than the team without Butcher. He provides another target and he takes an extra defender from Schulz and Westhoff. He didn't have a big impact on the score board but he was involves in a lot of plays which led to scores, either directly or indirectly.

Agree that we need another tall forward to come back in. At this stage, that means Butcher given that Shaw is injured and Harvey is not ready yet. We cannot afford to have one of Geelong's defenders playing as a loose man - they will tear us a new one.

As much as Butcher is hit or miss, I agree that it does look a better forward line. Saying that, he was a liability against the Kangaroos.

We have enough tall forward options that in general it's not an issue. Kicking 10 goals from 61 inside 50s was not due to a dwarfish forward line but missed snaps and great ground-level pressure from West Coast.

In the Showdown yes. Against the Kangaroos I don't think even once.

I reckon O'Shea was ok after half time and should keep his place.

Not sure who I would give a break apart from Wingard if he is injured.

I'd bring Hombsch in for Wingard which means O'Shea could play as loose man in defence (which he did well late in the season last year) and free Westy up for a forward role.

If Wingard is fit which all indications are he will be, I'd be trying to get Hombsch and Butcher in.Who comes out is a tough one, probably Sam Gray and good luck on the other.Their all contributing so glad I don't have to pick the side.

Glad none of us don't pick the side. I would have rested Cassisi and dropped Pittard!

Wingard played fit and even he would not use previous week injury as excuse. Moore to me completes our team. Butcher we love but Ken we trust. I am confident we can end geelongs era. Our time boys!
