Nah Butch has to demand a spot thought it was this year he was out of contract which worried me because he's close but clearly needs more time and you know if he goes elsewhere he's going to click and embarrass us. Leave him with the Sanfl until he demands a spot.

I see your point about the bigger bodies. Hombsch will play. Gus has had 3 full weeks to recover from a hamstring that Burgo said wasn't as bad as first thought, I seem to remember 3 weeks was the right number up to recently.
I can't see Ken making more than two changes but if those two play we definitely have a stronger side than last week.

In; Hombsch, Monfries (if cleared)
Out: S. Gray, Impey

If Gus isn't cleared then one of Stewart, Moore, Neade or Newton. I lean towards Stewart and play him as the sub, not because I necessarily think he's in the best form of those guys but because I think he'll have the best impact as the sub. But you could mount a case for any one of that four.

Went to the game yesterday. Sure it was very windy but Butch's is on borrowed time. I've sung his praises- size, X factor etc etc BUT its
getting to the enoughs enough. Mitch Harvey is better now than Butch and the gap will widen.
Was hoping Kane Mitchell's kicking action had improved but it seems that was wishful thinking.
Newton oozes class and hope to see his debut sooner rather than later.
On a side note Paul Stewart botches one at southern end 3rd Qtr and eagles fan rips into him as p*** poor.
Fellow Port supporter next to me says to him "you hate ur own do ya"...........silence.
As for the game the umpiring had to be seen to be believed as they were gifted at least 3 goals.
Gotch says we will be better later in the season when his seasoned players are back.
Well Gotchy we're gunna get better too. Some eagles fans letting it be known thru clenched teeth
and hissing asides that they hate the resurgent Port. Well sup it up ya mother****ers.

You reckon if Butcher doesn't perform in the SANFL and Harvey does we should give him a game late in the year (eg Round 18 vs Melbourne) as the 3rd tall?
His endurance and the fact he is only 18 are the only bad things about him atm.

Appreciate the insight Byrons Firen.

Sure a lock in for mine if not sooner. By the way is Mason Shaw injured?

It's funny, last week despite 2 x 8 disposal games there was no talk of dropping Impey now he keeps appearing on lists of outs. He had a couple of forgettable moments against West Coast but in a tough finals-like defensive slog against West Coast he doubled his previous weeks' output and in the second half was one of the drivers of our win - and our quick players were so important when the game was up for grabs. I would have thought the Subi game was perfect preparation for a game against Geelong. Moreso than a stroll in the park against the Oval Avenue Eagles.

You are doing it wrong.

Out - Impey
In - Whatevs.

Try and keep up frodo.

We definitely missed a 3rd tall forward. Definitely need one just so the cats have to defend it. But who do u play?
Our list is really lacking in talls ready to go. Butch is it but can you really play him??
We were frustratingly short...

Newton should debut and Stewart could be the 3rd sorta tall...
Out gray young and ???
In newton stewet hombsch

For me when talking defensively Bobby and Pittard stepped up immensely. Those 2 guys were "The Rock and Run" of our defense.

We can take these blokes on Sunday. It won't be easy - they're not top of the ladder for no reason. But at the same time, we're not second for no reason: we damn well deserve to be there. The game is being played on OUR oval in front of OUR fanatical supporters, and our average winning margin at the ground is currently 84 points (admittedly against pretty ordinary opposition). It may only be a goal or two either way: if we can take our chances when they present themselves, I reckon we're a huge chance of pulling off a famous victory.

If I recall correctly, we won 3 of the 4 quarters in last year's semi final, but still went down. This proves how important it is to play 4 consistent quarters of footy against Geelong, because if you don't, they'll kill you as soon as you let up. Come on boys: bring home those 4 points!!!!!!!!

I definitely backing us in for the win.

You're talking defence, what I meant by defensively was the across the ground pressure of West Coast trying to break up our running game, which they did successfully for a long stretch. That's what Geelong will bring, but a better counter-attacking game.

Horses for courses Ford. I think the majority of the people who are suggesting Impey out are only saying so in the event Motlop doesn't play leaving space for us to bring in another inside mid.

I very much doubt we will risk Monfries. Everything out of the club thus year has said we will be very conservative on injury returns.

Interestingly Doc Larkins just came back from a European conference saying AFL lead the world in many areas but that they try and rush players back too soon and so have the worst re-injury rates.

Just another example of Burgo being ahead of the curve.

Why would you make us slower against Geelong? Surely they are a team we have to take on not get stuck in a slog against? It was when we stopped being attacking and brave against them in the final that we lost.

Aren't Geelong nearly the bottom side in the AFL for clearances? Doesn't that say something about the way they play?

They will punish us the same as we have done to teams so far this year.

With all due respect to the team that has beaten us this is our biggest test so far.

As Lou said If Motlop plays then Impey should play. If he doesn't then Hombsch should come in and take care of Dawson Simpson
