I was so angry, for a variety of reasons - reverting to "oh noes we're playing Geelong" mode in Q3 after ruthlessly picking them apart in the first half. And then the customary 10-1 last quarter reaming from our old mate, Shane McInerney.

It was as if the fairytale just had to derail in the worst possible way. Had we got the first goal of the third quarter it was hard to see them coming back in the manner they did. Once they had the momentum and belief of that early barrage it was all over.

The one thing that I did take from losing that game was that if we had won, we would have been pantsed by Hawthorn the week after. We weren't ready mentally or physically to compete in a preliminary final against the Hawks. That's not the case this year.

We have 3 on the LTI (Shaw, Stevenson, Redden), meaning 3 possible rookie upgrades.
We've already upgraded Renouf and S.Gray, so we have one more possibility (most likely Mitchell, if we so choose).

Youre right. I'd already posted re leaving the spot open for Renouf based on what I'd read previously on this forum but you are correct, he's already been upgraded so we do have one spot available.

I think possibly 1954 posted that although Mitchell had a bit of it against WWT his disposal had been erratic.

I reckon Hombsch has to come in and maybe Butcher. Not sure who goes out. Probably O'Shea for Hombsch.

Paul Stewart will have to go close. I have become a Benny Newton fan. I have seen him play live 3 times this year - St K trial and 2 Maggies games and he has won me over. Didn't really notice him in the internal trial but did in the other games.

If Motlop is going to play for Geelong I want Impey in the side to cover him and let Matt White play the attacking speedster role.

I haven't forgotten. We had those guys cooked, and it was only their older stars like Bartel, Johnson and Chapman that brought them back into it because we paid them too much respect. Not this time.

Chapman destroyed us that night, but to say it was only because of their older stars is underestimating the contributions of Selwood, Hawkins and Motlop.

I liken that game to the walk off between Zoolander and Hansel - "He had to pull his underwear out of his butt to beat you!"

I have a feeling Monfries will be selected if he completes training today with no problems, S.Gray will go if so!

I'd like to see Stewart come in and play up forward for us.
I noticed Stewart was at full fwd a bit last week. He has a good amount of speed and is a strong bloke as well.

I like Stewy up forward. Watching replays from our early wins last year before he was injured he was an important part of our forward line. He's a straight shooter and a smart footballer he only needs 3 shots on goal to kick 3. Really want him in the team.

The thing I like about him is he is consistent with his performances. You know what your gonna get with him.
Although it may not be at an elite standard it's not poor either.

Agree, and if you watched Hawthorn/Geelong, Gunston proved a bit of a handful for Lonergan and I think Stewy can do something similar, even more so if Mackie doens't come up.

Paul Stewart was getting into good positions against Woodville. He took 15 marks and kicked 3.3 in windy conditions. That's more important than his height.

Monfries would be the ideal in for our forward set up but if he's not ready bring in Stewart. He can make Taylor or Rivers accountable as well.

Spot on.

Stewart in.
