9th career game:

Drew Petrie: 0 kicks 0 handballs 0 marks 1 tackle 0 hitouts
Majak Daw: 6 kicks 2 handballs 5 marks 4 tackles 11 hitouts Goals 1 Behinds 4

Drew didn't kick a goal until his 11th game.
Majak has kicked 13 goals after his 9th game.
Roles come into it but Maj isn't tracking any worse than Drew did.

Majak may play an ordinary game on Friday, but plenty of gun forwards have been embarrassed by Geelong's back 6.

I'm not sure any of them will be looking forward to standing him though and that's exactly why he is in the team.

He is unpredictable and he is a weapon.

That is what makes him a weapon.

If in 4 years he's had 100ish games, backmen may very well piss themselves at the prospect having to play on him.

I don't expect him to be the second coming of Carey. But a player that puts fear into the opposition backline every week. Yeah I'll take one of those.

Age of Majak Daw at 9th game of football = 23
Age of Drew Petrie at 9th game of football = 18
Comparing the two is insulting to Drew.
At 23 I doubt Daw has a lot of upside left either. Hasn't improved much if any since last year.
Daw will not only put in an ordinary game on Friday, he will be exposed.
There is nothing unpredictable about being sh*thouse.
As for not looking forward to playing on him...why bother playing on him. Just stay down when he jumps to mark it and wait for the ball to fall into your hands.

Drew Petrie went at number 23.

That is 22 players were taken before him.

He'd played footy his entire life.

There were 100 players taken before Maj.

He'd played maybe 50 games of footy in his life.

You are right comparing the two is not fair. They are polar opposites in terms of how they came to footy and the expectations they should have on them.

Maj could be anything, the idea he has little improvement left at 23 is a laugh.

Sam Gibson at 26 is still improving.

Scott Thompson at 28 just had his best season.

What a load of poppycock. How many years had each been playing the sport at any level prior to entering the AFL? Maj has plenty of upside. Whether he fulfills his potential is the unknown but that potential upside cannot be questioned.

If you want to look at it another way, Majak Daw now has his own personal Jack Reacher in this case Mr Happy Sour.

Has anyone ever seen them post in the same place at the same time?

Indeed. Swallow was on Laidley's scrapheap before a chance injury to someone else.

Its irrelevant what his past experience playing football is. He's either good enough or he is not. This is a club that should have played finals the last two years and that on ability and draw should finish top 4. We have under achieved big time. We have an opportunity on Friday to plant ourselves in the top 4 by beating a contender. Its time to drop the project player and get serious. Wheel him in for a bit of sideshow entertainment against the rubbish teams for sure. But I sincerely hope he's doesn't play Friday. Do any of you who are potting me honestly think he has improved this year?

And bring in who?

Currie?

Haha

#EDIT He's played 3 games and come in underdone. If he hasn't shown enough improvement we sure as shit ain't gonna see it moving him ito and out of the side.

He looked much more comfortable with leading with drew on the weekend that is for sure.

Oh thats right. I forgot. Half of you lovely people are sponsoring this dude. Well I take it all back. He's beyond criticism. Carry on. Marvelous player is our Maj.

So who comes in?

What key forward that can chop out in the ruck?

Who from our list fills that role?
We shouldn't need a chop out in the ruck because we were told that Big Todd could do it all on is lonesome. Thats why we got rid of good players in Hale & McIntosh who could certainly fill the role you are talking about. All because the aerobic sensation Todd Goldstein could not share. Now he needs a chop out? A lot of people think the problem will be solved when Tarrant comes back. But I can't remember Tarrant doing too much chop out ruck work.

Also, why exactly do we have to play 3 talls if the third isn't up to it? Wood looked a very likely type against Geelong preseason. His VFL form is solid. And he has huge upside. Could do worse than play him as the third forward. Bugger Goldstein. Hasn't put pen to paper. I'd let him slog it out against the ex team mates he effectively evicted from the club.

Oh and the other one that springs to mind that could have filled this role is the uncoachable Cameron Pederson. For those who are too north centric to watch other clubs, he's starting to play good footy at Melbourne.

I see you still didn't actually answer the question.

Mate, everyone is open to criticism, but surely you'd agree that pre-empting Maj's failuire is jumping the gun a tad? Especially when he demonstrated improvement at the top level, RE: timing for marks? And that improvement was from one match to the next?

Maj's upside is one of the things to cheer oneself up after dealing with our roll-coaster season so far.
