Why are you guys arguing like pissheads at the pub? :stern look

Adams and Wright play different positions and different roles.

I gave Adams a serve last week... and most weeks really, because he was shithouse, but he played a lot better. Granted against a QAFL side but it was why I wanted him to have a spell in the 2s so he could get confidence like this game would have given him.

Wright is a good defensive player and he runs forward and gets shots on goal even playing in the back line, granted he doesn't sink most of them but defensively he is better than Atley or Mullett. He has done shut down roles on guys like Goddard and SJ in the past.

I think his game was... encouraging, Mullett has stunk defensively and hasn't been attacking as much as he was last year. Not sure if he should be dropped or not, how often does our club drop players after a win?

I am a bit nervous with Wright, he has the capability to disappoint but he has a lot of talent, it would be a massive boon to us if he can get some confidence back and play to his ability.

Miles off best 22... Especially now that we have superstars like Robin Nahas, Samuel Wright & Gibbo in career best form.

Eternity/light years is my best guess.

I respect everyone who pulls on the jumper/buys a membership.

I also respect the fact that he busts his ass and has improved significantly.

I don't respect his tackle/contested possession/pressure act/goal assists/goal numbers. The rest of his game is elite.

Fair enough, nobody is calling him a superstar but you can't deny he's in career best form and has played a big part in some of our wins this year.

Getting better with his disposal as well, a result of playing to his limitations. He'll never be a big contested possession winner mostly due to the role he plays, he's a receiver.

His tackle count has increased from an average of 2 last year to 3.6 which is a good sign.

I agree that he isn't as damaging in terms of forward entries or hitting the scoreboard. If he can ever get those up to a reasonable standard he would be a gun.

Mullett has been ordinary this year, has been well down on last seasons form. I dont think he is an automatic selection anymore & should earn his place back.

I think Wright should stay in, I like what he brings to our backline.

Would love to see Wood get a game. I think he would really help our forward structure. We need a lead up forward, so Drew can stay deep. Black has been well down on form & having Tarrant out highlights this fact. Seems like he is in ripping form. Just cant see how we fit him in though, maybe for Adams...

Bastinac could have a run in the twos, maybe Jacobs could come in

McMahon out.

Lol. We've seen what happens when Adams 'backs himself' around the goals..and we have also seen what happens when Wright does, especially against a poor opppsition, with hardly any pressure. I think Scotts game plan works better with small crummers pouncing on the loose ball and breaking through plays. Wright is replaceable

Nahas stays. The guy ran out possessed yesterday. Knows he is playing for his career and doing his job well.

I reckon Wells will get up. With the bye and Brisbane selections erred on the side of caution to get him cherry ripe for Friday.

I don't rate Wright.

McMahon/Mullet? Who reckons McMahon is more accountable in defence?

McMahon is more accountable, but Mullet provides more speed and run out of the backline. McMahon has been a good player for us, neat disposal, rarely turns it over, but none of his possessions damage the opposition. They are alll 20-25m kicks sideways etc. Mullet runs and carries the footy and kicks it forward 40m+ on most possessions. He's also good for a goal a week, whereas McMahon isnt. If fit, Mullet comes straight back in.

If this is the best patch has to offer you obviously don't know, his best was two years ago, he is content now. Not playing to his potential.

Wright just doesn't get the chance, when he does he will show all you haters how good he is. He will be a better player than Patch.

Ok Quivorir (aka Sam Wright) let's break it down for you:
Wright has played 71 games in 6 years, he's missed time in there with injury. I'm not sure how you can say he's (you've) not been given a chance? With that many games under the belt, he (you?) should be playing consistent senior football, instead he's still a fringe player, setting himself up for a career as a journeyman.
In all honesty, he is talented which is why he's still on the list after 6 years. Part of the reason he is frustrating is because he (you?) clearly knows how to find the footy, but squanders it when he gets it. Also makes 2-3 errors per game that a D3 reserves player wouldn't make. I still haven't forgiven him for the 3 missed last qtr goals from 30 meters out last year that cost us another heart breaking loss. I know why you like him, he shows glimpses/flashes of something more. However the reality is, that unless something clicks in the next 5-10 games for him, he's going to be just one more player with unrealised potential.

Patch is a far more consistent and damaging player than Wright and any attempts to mount an argument to the contrary are damaging to your credibility. We could have a whole thread on Sam Wright and his potential vs his actual output. It shouldn't be a question of Wright vs Patch, but you raised it, so people will respond.

Tarrant was doing full length drills with our Werribee and Ballarat boys last Friday morning.. he looked great!! i guess it depends on how he pulls up with his leg!!

he also said that he made a mistake having McDonald as sub last week (no shit) and he wanted give a midfielder the sub. He won't be dropped.

I was listening to freo-cats game on Saturday night & the commentators said Ballantyne was almost best on ground at half time with 4 possessions.

That's right, 4.

It's about pressure & effort with us if you haven't noticed this year. And pace.

I would like to see us up the ante a bit and go for broke and try to run them off their feet. They will be flat, but we need the tools to expose them and IMO you play blokes like Harps when they are fit and kicking goals. Which he is now.

I love Patchy too but I think folk are forgetting how good Sam was in his second year, before his shoulders went **** up, and fail to recognise his good performances because since then he has been swung around the ground repeatedly, playing varying roles.

I hope he can show his qualities in the future but he may struggle with JMac and Mullett to come back.

Didn't he kick 14 goals in 5 games in his first year playing full time as a HF? That is some talent there.
