He probably won't touch the ball but he's earned a game in the AFL after two solid seasons kicking goals in the VFL. Just need to give him a chance.
He won't make it. A midget stuck in a giant string bean's body.

There's this thing I love to harp on about. You don't learn AFL football in the VFL, you need experience.

You take any reasonable young footballer and stick them in the AFL, and give them a string of games 4-6 to see how they go. If they aren't ready back to the burgers for a little longer. Then the following season you try again, if they give you hope you keep going. All of a sudden they have 50 games under their belt and they look worthy of playing each week. 50 games later they are a solid contributor and in your top 15 players.

McBean is going to be a long project because he is a skinny tall But after 2 years he is ready for his first taste of AFL football, that first 4-6 games. If he struggles he goes back to the VFL knowing what it takes to become an AFL footballer. He goes back and works on things and hopefully earns another right to a string of games.

If we can as well later in the year get games into Cellis and Menadue, and maybe even McKenzie it would be helpful. Not sure on the other draftees but anything is worth a try especially if the season is over.

Addam Marrick would be handy right now

No No No No NO, that is where we went wrong from the start with Hardwick. Every game one of these battlers played was 1 less game a younger draftee had to develop. I'd have gone all out looking for young players / VFL players untried to fill our list, not battlers who have already failed.

Also pretty certain the afl will scchedule us down at the cattery next year after two 30k or under home games against the cats

we've got them at the worst possible time 2 years in a row. The afl kissed our doodle with the draw only for us to screw it up again

Out: Drummond (injured), Morris, Gordon, Hunt (injured)
In: Lennon, Foley (Depending on whether he plays a full game in VFL today), chaplin or elton, mcbean or Vickery or Mckenzie or Ellis (who ever shows the most tomorrow in the wet conditions, may that just be effort and hunger for contest)

McDonough into the middle like most of that last quarter.
Vlastuin more mins in midfield but still rotate him back until we find some blokes who can do a decent job down there to free him up.
Hoping Griffiths can get up for this game with the eight day break, hopefully sitting out most of the second half will help him get up for the game.

FB: Jake Batchelor David Astbury Troy Chaplin or Todd Elton
HB: Bacher Houli Alex Rance Ben Lennon
C: Brandon Ellis Dustin Martin Kamyden McIntosh
HF: Shane Edwards Ben Griffiths Shaun Grigg
FF: (Liam mcbean or Tyrone Vickery or Reece Mckenzie or Sam Lloyd) Jack Riewoldt Matt Arnot
Foll: Ivan Maric Trent Cotchin Matt McDonough
Interchange: Nick Vlastuin Nathan Foley Anthony Miles
Sub: Sam Lloyd or Cory Ellis

I know sometimes the club have their hand forced, but I'm sick of seeing our shit-truck draftees waltz into the side while the higher rated ones are forced to wait.

Thomas, Gordon and Lloyd all got early games while we had to wait months for Miles and Lennon.

We had to wait over a month for Vlastuin and now we have to watch the likes of Lambert and Drummund (the injury sucks, but he looked well out of his depth) while Corey Ellis is stuck in the reserves.

I know there are often reasons but it's just frustrating.
Ellis has just recovered from a broken bone in his foot. Give him some time to get some fitness base before playing him. That is OTT.

Can we dump all those players who were deemed not good enough by other clubs and so were let go, only to be snapped up by us like a scab cruising past a hard-rubbish collection? 'Woo-Hoo, look I just found someone's old table and chair set that I don't really need, but I can clog up the garage with it, and put off ever buying a good quality set, and just exist with this old crappy one for the next 10 years. It's almost as good as the one I chucked out last week!'.

So - no Hunt, no Gordon, no Lloyd, no Petterd, no Grigg

I wanted Morris to make it. Started his career like a maniac with his attack on the ball. Then opposition wised up when they realised he was not damaging with the ball and prone to go to ground in any contest.

I thought the experiment in the forward line was worth a try ; it worked for king.

Unfortunately as a foward he had the same limitations as a backman.

I'm all for experiments and for giving guys chances but we can't keep carrying him. He needs to go to the twos and try to reinvent himself in some other role or he won't play another game.

Unfortunately I think that below the knees rule has really hurt Morris, it was exactly that sort of game from him that made him so effective for us in his first year.

Some odd outs in this thread, thought Arnot and Gordon tried their asses off, not the problem at all (but Gordon is an easy whipping boy to turn too) and McDonough was one of the better ones after he came on

Out: Drummond :(, Hunt (looked pretty cooked after injury, battled on), Griff (did well early but went invisible, due to injury I heard?), Lloyd (not really up too it), Morris (I love Morris, I really do, I still do, but by god has been below average this year)

When is this Gourdis bloke going to get a game? He was supposed to be the next big thing.
Can we start playing Post now? He needs gametime to develop

More calves this year than ever before I reckon. Never seen so many.
Agree

This isn't a side for the now, this is a side for the future. A number of best 22 players are sidelined by injury so take the chance to play a few kids give them a chance to show what they are capable of and you never know what may happen.
