I think Paul Stewart will be unlucky if he's dropped. He can play a defensive role in the forward line, and also kick a goal.

And he's pretty deadly running into an open goal. He steady's himself nicely before normally slotting the ball through. Of course you can say he shouldn't miss but I've seen 'more skilful' players kick points in similar situations.

Ken seems to have very little faith in the fitness of Amon and Ah Chee. Surely if they are being picked then they are expected to run out a full game if required, as an early injury could mean they are subbed in immediately or on the flip side ensure that they can't be subbed off.

I just think that Ken should back them a bit more, especially when we were running all over Melbourne; let them see what it takes to run out a full game of AFL. If they fade badly, then drop them next week. I thought Am on was meant to be a running machine anyway, let's allow him to push himself.

Very excited about both these guys and think they can overtake Young and Moore by the end of the year to claim the vacancies left by Cornes and Polec.

Yeah I feel the same way that Ken doesn't seem to have faith in their fitness. Strange considering isn't Amon a top 5 endurance runner at the club?
Id be playing Amon in a full game (as he's yet to do so).

In Ryder achee(a f***ing must and give him a full game and dont drop him for a while)
Out young amon.....

i wish we could drop jasper he would be my first out...but i have given up on that now

sub: hartlett

Have a look at the replay first, one slip and a short kick. He was no loan soldier on either accounts. Westhoff's first four kicks fell short, T Jonas, repeat offender, M Broadbent did it also. Cries for their heads to roll please.

I did laugh at one point in the last quarter when Pittard did a switch kick to Jonas that almost missed him and got a big groan from the crowd, and then Jonas immediately kicked it straight to a Bulldogs player and we heard nothing. Pittard's nearly mistakes are treated more harshly than other players' actual mistakes.

I have cried hamishs head.... how many more do you want me to cry for

Like i said i have given up on him being dropped....but he is liabilty

He isn't that much of a liability that people think he is.

I watched the replay last night. He had that short intercept kick in the first, a problem alot of players suffered.

He had that third quarter slip, that was the howlers! Resulting in goals. Like I said, are you maligning Broadbent for his kick across goals to Grant? Ebert's soft drop mark resulting in a goal?

Ultimately, he is a regular key mid size defender, his defensive skills are excellent, all players make error's defense errors just get highlighted more, especially in modern football with such strong zonal pressure.

Yes, because they think it's going to be an error, ends up not being one, but they just end up thinking it is anyway.

For mine Ah Chee in full game Amon Out
Ryder in only if fit and weather dependent, Cluery out, even though he has done ok

Ken Hinkley said Trengove is a sneaky chance to be back next week, But is more likely for the Carlton game.

Listed as 6 weeks on the injury list last week to 1 week this week is some fast healing!

I don't think we have missed him. His form has been terrible, lets be honest.

Because of injury, If he's 100% he's a real strong marking leader in the backline.

It doesn't so much matter why he isn't playing well, but it does matter that he isn't playing well.

Honestly...

Pittard is one of the homeboys on here he is one favourites and gets reprieved...

Why would i call for eberts head.....thats ridiculous

Broadbent....absolutely needs a fire cracker up his arse...

Hamish as i said called for his head..

Pittard is a dead set freaking liabilty....he isnt even playing well to overlook his mistakes....its been happening since he started its not going to change now...

Or maybe they are being picked to give them valuable development time in the AFL and seeing whether or not they can stand up to pressure and are worthy of a contract extension? The reason why Amon got a full game last week was because he is a running machine and put the effort in to build up his tank during preseason - notice how Ah Chee never got that luxury when he got games, coming on as sub twice in a row? What happens if they burn out during an AFL match? Then they think 'Oh shit, I can't perform at this level at all', their confidence is shattered and furthermore, they go back to the SANFL the following week and have a poor game because they haven't been able to recover from the match. I'm quite certain that Burgess would be able to tell Ken exactly whether or not a certain player still has juice in the tank by their GPS numbers that they track through the game - they don't need to see if they fade badly...they can already see it when their performance in defensive work (which is the stuff that statistical numbers won't reflect) drops off.

The whole point is to expose them to what it takes to play to an AFL level and then have them translate that into reserve form so that when they get the call up they all can offer something to the team. You look at it as 'overtaking' and 'claiming vacancies', whereas Ken sees the team as his squad and believes they should all be able to perform at a high level. It's the very reason that he does back them in and give them that opportunity to play their first game when other coaches would fall back into playing the same players they always have every week that makes Ken an excellent coach.

Sorry BMW I can't agree with you.

The continual plea's for dropping isn't always the answer, coupled with the fact we potentially don't have enough players to replace.

Look at Gray and Cluery, it's taken them 3 weeks to catch up to the speed of the AFL game. If it's structural sure send em back, otherwise dropping most likely wont' help. Dropping Jasper, how will going to a slowly level of game pace help his game? Same for Broadbent?

We kept the opposition to 10 goals, all the defenders need to take a bow. Why wouldn't you call for Eberts head? He dropped an easy mark allowing the dogs into an open goal? Disgraceful isn't it?

What about Broadbents kick across the face of goals straight to a dogs player?

Boak got tackled so often without disposing of the ball, he's too slow, let's axe him too. Relax, players make mistakes, 100% effectiveness is a pipe dream.

I think you missed my point there. I want Amon and Ah Chee to get opportunities. I agree that competition for the last couple of spots is important.

What I get annoyed at is Ken's reluctance to back the new boys in, almost as if he's decided pre-game that Amon will come off at 3 qtr time/Ah Chee will come on after 3qtr time.

And if it is a case of them not having the tank for a full game, then he's playing roulette with the sub position. The logic of easing them in doesn't hold up.

There would be a very good reason for it. He knows they probably have the tank for a full game if required, but maybe not the tank to back it up again the following week. So if there WAS an injury, we aren't caught out, but he would much rather manage their exposure. It's all about the opposition we are playing as well - Ah Chee was sub against hardened teams whereas Amon got a full game against the younger Melbourne before being subbed off against the Bulldogs, who are also a younger team.

Who else would you have subbed off instead of Amon? Someone has to go, and Amon's running power is a big weapon of his.

Why do we call for anyone to be dropped if this was the case?

Rick you are being silly if expect me to explain to you why i wouldnt want boak and ebert dropped you are freaking delusional about pittards ability....

Pittard is not even on the same level as boak or ebert in terms of performance...

You are being biased with the assessment of one to another. He provides team balance in our defensive end of the ground in a position you can't plug and replace without an extended transition period.

He made two mistakes once a slip another a maligned kick that resulted in a point!

The cries of banish him seem overly excessive compared to other players who make mistakes. That is the point.

Pittard was ok the ordinary kicking of Broady and Hartlett especially in the first half annoyed me more at the game than any Jasper moments.

*I will always back Jasper because I remember how pedestrian our backline looked when he was out for a stretch in 2013.... so come at me

Um...

I think we are both biased in our opinions....

everything you have said about my opinion of pittard i could reverse it back on to you....but thats neither here or there...

its like you want me to back up my opinion by justifying a big name player who makes mistakes i told you i think hammer should get the vest or even dropped...

but at the end of the day we both know pittard will not be dropped
