Just to clarify, I wasn’t advocating Gray’s spot in the team, I was advocating the need for a small/medium forward line player to pressure the ball carrier and create turnovers in the forward half and that can be used as an extra runner around the stoppages. I don’t want to see Gray be replaced with Ryder, Stewart keeps playing as a lead up target, we go too tall in the fwd line, we look slow and they get easy exits out of our forward 50. If Stewart stays in, I want him to reprogram himself and to change his role in the forward line. His primary role will no longer be to play tall but to play small and I’d also like to see him used in the midfield rotations every now and then.

Fair call. I wouldn't say Stewy plays particularly tall anyway, both of his goals this year have been on the run and that fantastic assist to Monfries came from a crumb, not a mark. He could consider himself very unlucky if he was the one to go out this week IMO.

Can't believe Clurey is getting so much support, until the last quarter he was horrible. Lots of comments in my area about how he was proving a liability.

Also good to see a couple others recognize that our best footy came when Young came on and our balance of ball winners to flankers was right.

For mine

IN: Ryder, Moore (as sub)
OUT: Clurey, Amon

Young into starting 21. Sub out Ryder at 3 qtr time.
Stop listening to Dermott

I for one am glad that Clurey is getting a run. He made a few mistakes early but he needs these games at this level to get better. Looked really good against the Doggies. Took some crucial marks, made a few mistakes early but handled the heat as the game went on. A player of the future. I think in the long run Jonas might have some competition. Can't see Hombsch being moved and Clurey is mobile enough to play tall and small.

Also looked at the Geelong board to see their ins and outs. A Cows supporter told them to be careful about coming to a Port match because of crowd behavior. It was funny because it back-fired.

Fun fact, we have won every AFL game that Clurey plays in.
Also that my mate's wife has attended with us. Now 5 over 2 years. She often has work or netball, and now taunts us about whether she will come to our games.

I don't know who will be in, or who will be out, but one thing's for certain, Moore will be emergency.
He's really impressed Kern in that role this year.
Kern says it's his to lose as "he's been great".

the more I think of it the more I get nervous about bringing Trengove and Ryder back in the same week when the team is starting to settle.

I'd rather give one of them, whichever one needs more rest, another week off.

two key position players back in the same week is a big structural change.

Jacko should come back thru the maggies. His form was not good before he was injured so the run and wake up will do the trick. Darling from west coast has to do his time in the 2s so why not Jacko

Hombsch needs to go to the Tomahawk. Hawkins is their main avenue to goal.

Bobby can go to one of their other talls - Clark or Stanley if they play

Impey should get the job on Motlop.

We need to spread their defence when we go forward. We need to make sure that Taylor can't zone off and help Lonergan when he is one out.

We should have too much depth in the midfield.

His form was fine. He's a star and he plays in the AFL side. Otherwise we better bring Ollie back through the seconds next time to.

For me Clurey stays no matter who comes back. I think if Trengove returns on form Jonas should go. If Ryder is fit than Stewie would miss out. I would keep Young as the sub as he did enough in the last qtr to hold his place.

Hombsch is going to get thrown out of bounds if he engages in a one on one marking contest with Hawkins. Hawkins is too strong hombsch isn't weak but Hawkins is just a man beast. This is why I'm more inclined for carlile to go to Hawkins. Carlile has the physical body weight and strength to compete and not be absolutely monstered like other defenders. Carlile is primed and made for big bodied strong forwards like Hawkins and Cloke its a perfect match up. Clark and Stanley are way too athletic for bobby, he won't be able to keep up with them on leads he can only be effective in a one on one marking contest where the ball is in the air. he'll become a liability. I agree with impey to motlop

The most important thing other than keeping taylor accountable is to be on top in the midfield. If they are pressured for every possession and don't get clean ball use to their forwards which will allow hombsch/clurey/broadbent/whoever to mark loose balls and or come third man in. it will go a long way to us winning the game

After one game everyone has gone quiet about Sam Gray, probably played his best game Vs Bulldogs however he will get out muscled against the cats. Ryder normally plays well against Geelong.. He must come in. He'll come in handy if we can drop him back as an extra in front of Hawkins.

I like our chances this week, unless jackson is 100% id leave him for after the bye.

WTF? Amon possibly for Mitchell? Amon is faster and massive step up in disposal efficiency. All Mitchell has is he can run out a full game. I'd take 3 quarters of Amon over 4 quarters of Mitchell for outside speed any day of the week.

i like Amon as much as the next guy but he isnt setting the world on fire. has been given a taste now its time do go back.
of his two full games he has had 13 and 12 touches.
Mitchell this year has games of 15, 19, 16, 21, 14 and was dropped for them.....

At the end of the day id like Amon and Gray to go out for Moore and Ryder now

Hombsch - Clark
Carlile - Hawkins
Impey - Motlop

Who takes Selwood? Maybe Ebo to play off him?

It's going to be interesting how we approach playing the better side like Geelong because the last thing I'd like to see is a Fyfe v dangerfield type approach cos it might look all nice and stuff but winning must be the first priority. I initially thought Ollie should go to Selwood but that's probably playing into their hands a bit as they should be worried about our Ollie. At the end of the day we need a tagger but who will it be?

Amon has been subbed off in both of his full games. So the numbers are similar for both players.

Carlile - Hawkins

In the last 3 games against us Hawkins(on Carlile) has scored 1, 2 and 3 goals. And those 3 were scored after we had an unbeatable lead. Bobby has Hawkins' measure now, he must go to him and Hombsch to one of the faster tall forwards, preferably Clark. Impey did the job on Dahlhaus so should be able to match it with Motlop, but it is always going to be difficult comparing players. But I just can't see another defender who can go to him. Neither Jonas or Clurey are fast enough and Pittard isn't accountable enough, and would mean we would lose run out of defence.

I like the idea of Broady, who has been a successful midfielder and has a good inside-50 kick, running with Selwood. Even if it doesn't work as well as we want it could be a beginning in grooming another run-with player.

yes and no as amon has been subbed due to not being able to run out the games.... so if he was to stay on he wouldnt keep going at the same rate.
But regardless, right now he definitely doesnt offer more than young, moore, etc. same goes for gray

Carlile v Hawkins
Trengove v Clark (if either play)
Jonas v Johnson
Clurey v Kersten
Hombsch v Walker
Pittard v Gregson
Impey v Motlop

Boak to go head to head against Selwood. Wines to take Caddy. Guthrie will go up against Gray. Hartlett v Kelly.
