I've seen Sam Gray preferred to Broadbent and Krakouer, now I've seen him preferred to Hamish Hartlett. Sam'll be captain by the end of the year at this rate :drunk:

And we have an option if we lose Lobbe before Redden and Ryder are fit.

Impey is bigger, faster, stronger and a far better defender than Gray. Plus his scope for improvement in not even in the same ballpark.
Well thats yet to be seen...both are still fairly new to afl both fumble both make mistakes...

Its just with new comers i just put it in a different basket of judgement than a hartlett..

i expect hartlett to drag us over the line like boak ebert and gray does....he has that ability to do so and he should be in those circles...

I expect gray to f up and not be up to speed with afl yet....just like impey and achee....etc

Can't you? Why not?
Based on what ??

I know Hartlett had twice as many touches but I just feel Grays first half was great and his desperation around the contested areas(especially on the wing) not only won us some contests but turned the momentum in our favour.

I don't think Hartlett's possessions had enough impact on the game. It may be due to where and when he gets the ball though. He is put into situations where he tries to be too cute with the ball, I'd love for him to use his foot as a weapon and kick the ball over some of the zones and/or flooded areas to a tall target.

I can't deny Sam Gray had a better game than Hartlett, But Hartlett is one of our important core group of players. You can't drop him.
Last week it was Gray to be used to train greyhounds in Queensland. This week it's Hartletts turn, I'm not a great fan of him but your right his form is not bad enough to be dropped.

If you bring in Ryder and keep stewart
you need to bring in a running player

if that's Mitchell/ah cher young or whoever

I was talking about PowerBaz's ridiculous comment, not anything that you posted.

My comment was only trying to bring a discussion point of an experienced player who should be performing better to an improving player who is trying hard to get better. Sam Gray probably isn't the be all and end all and won't be as good as Hartlett but i'm bored of seeing Hamish walking around after a contest with hands on hips and head down like he's pissed off with life, i'd wish he would just get on with it. It does seem like they are giving Sam Gray some time to settle in, and with the way they have chopped and changed players this year I wonder whether they are looking at what they have in the hope to settle it down come the back half of the year. maybe my comment re gold pass was a little harsh, probably the residue Williams/Primus factor still etched into my brain, sorry for that.

He looks as if he is under pressure to perform better and annoyed with where he is at with it. lacking confidence a bit?

is Trengove an automatic in and Clurrey and out this week? I like what I have seen with Clurrey. I also like Stewart in the team so I think they have some hard decisions this week re Trengove and Ryder.

yeah there will be a dew unlucker players this week.

I didn't understand the dropping of Broadbent. If he had been playing really badly or if there had been someone knocking the door down to get in then maybe he was the one to go. But we had neither situation, he wasn't playing as well as 2014 but he wasn't totally useless. And we all know the difference between SANFL and AFL, there is a big step up.
Any change against Geelong would depend on whether Ryder is ready to go. Trengove is not expected till at least the Carlton game and given the care often taken he might not be risked till after the bye. If Ryder does come in then I would expect Stewart to be the unlucky player. Although it could be Young, with Stewart being relegated to the sub role.

Losing run out of the backline? without Polec Krak and Broady have been doing a fair bit of that, is Stewart a like for like in back line, looks like a half decent idea though.
In theory Stewart should be able to provide just as much run as Broadbent. That said, I still wouldnt be prepared to drop broady just yet. He's played some good football but has been too inconsistent.

Broady's kicking on Saturday night was deplorable. I reckon he is one of our most important cogs when up and about but the kid is so down on confidence it inst funny.

Agree early on, his first 4 kicks were all turnovers, 2 leading to goals. But he worked himself well into the game as it went on, and I reckon we need to persist with him based on that. He's a huge weapon for us when in form.

Sometimes you have to persist with a player through a form slump, especially if they have previously proven themselves. We've already dropped him, I don't believe dropping him again will be good for the team or for Broadbent.

Ryder and Trengove look to be inclusions this week.

AFL.com: PORT Adelaide could be delivered a huge boost ahead of its massive Friday night clash against Geelong at Adelaide Oval, with defender Jackson Trengove shaping as a possible inclusion.

Trengove injured his ankle in the club's round eight loss to Richmond. He didn't require surgery but was expected to miss six weeks.

The key backman said he felt good as he ran laps, sprinted and tested out the ankle on Tuesday morning.

I'd love to try Trengove as a fwd/ruck in place of Lobbe but I think he has said he doesn't want to play that role and I don't think his body would handle it.

Our defence is looking so good without Trengove at the moment I'm almost prepared to get behind RussellEbertHandball's mad plan to play him at CHF.
Method to my madness. Has played a couple of great games at chf when moved there during a game eg v doggies up in darwin and v bombers at docklands when Tredders got injued and ended up being his last game of AFL.

Jacko would harass the hell out of opposition defenders as well.
