Ken Hinkley, what is this garbage coming out of your mouth...

"Aaron was very unlucky to go out of the side, (but) Brendon Ah Chee's form was so good we had to play him.

"Karl Amon went out of the side a couple of weeks ago and came straight back in, 'Youngy' will be the same this week."

Fellow half-forward Aidyn Johnson was the only travelling emergency for the Power as they arrived at Adelaide Airport for the flight to Melbourne.

I can't even fathom that statement.

Ah well. No-one else is there defensively and no one else is knocking down the door in the twos. Good luck Youngy.

i would have liked to see monfries but i cant really argue with youngy, he does give you more versatility and defensive pressure

I'm almost convinced Young has replaced Wingard, except that Theo Doropolous has also reported it. ;)

he lacks plenty of instinct of being able to find the footy, the difference between the really good midfielders is the ability to be in the right place at the right time, there are plenty of slow spuds who can rack up possession because they have great ability to know where the ball is going and to be in that position and it doesnt matter if that is being on the inside or the outside of the contest. If you put Impey into the midfield he's the type of guy who would get 15 disposal as opposed to 25 disposals with his direct opponent having a field day. I agree he has great speed, evasiveness etc but that doesnt translate into a good midfielder, his best work is as a receiver or applying defensive pressure

That isn't "instinct". That's learning over time to play a particular role. It's like saying someone who grows up near the beach has a natural born instinct to ride a surfboard. They don't, they just happen to exist in an environment that gives them the opportunity to flourish at it.
Give Jarman Impey a role in the midfield and sure, he may not be racking up 30 possessions in his first few games, but to say he has no "instinct" to become that player is pure, unadulterated garbage.

I wonder if Gus will be back next week against Hawthorn? Hasn't played at AFL level for 18 months, might be waiting for an easier game to settle him back in?

Sure hope he isn't gone for good, love his work.

Two things...
1) that is not what you said... You said he was too small for the job
2) the whole team was crap 12 months ago!!!! On that philosophy no one gets an opportunity!

Twelve months is a long time in the development of a young footballer. He deserves his shot.

He's been on the list for 6 years and we've all seen him against bigger bodies in the middle he doesn't get a sniff. He's good at bashing up the lower ranked sides. I'd expect Young to go to the middle.

Sigh

Unlucky to be dropped my anus. That's damning. He was well past needing to be dropped. Then he goes back and plays one average game at SANFL level and he's straight back in.

Not a good or pragmatic decision because:

  • Like for like players in the SANFL in good form get overlooked
  • One week in the SANFL is no incentive to perform better, and is not enough time to work on what they were dropped for.
  • Bad message to the playing group of favorites being played
  • Johnson as the emergency is even worse, the kid can't even remotely find the ball at SANFL level.
  • Tells Monfries "lol don't bother champ"
  • First one out, first one back in, very stale approach.

The way Port seems to have been thinking over the years is that when there is an injury then the first to be considered is the out-of-form player who has just been dropped from the AFL team. There was a big opportunity here to bring in someone who has been doing well in the SANFL but instead it's just a return to the status quo. Maybe there's no-one who's an immediately obvious AFL player but I could have seen Toumpas or Monfries doing just as well if not possibly better than Young here.
