im happy for monfries to play, he is a point of difference with his lead-up, finds space and will be the player to kick 3 goals from limited opportunity rather than another player who will only kick one. He would also be a good foil for Robbie with those 2 causing havoc in the matchups. If i was going to drop someone it would most probably be hartlett, i think DBJ, Polly, Broady & Pittard can all do his role in the half back line, and im not sure you want to play 5 half back flankers

take away Ah Chees 3 goals and his game was pretty average, 2 of his goals were just a result of pressure in other areas and pretty much in junk time.

I wasn't the one backing in Ah Chee, just stating when Young last scored 3 goals.

I very much want Monfries back in the team as well.

Ah Chee has a big body and pace. That's reason enough to keep him in against Geelong. I still have nightmares of a flyweight Colquhoun being picked against them and ripped apart like he was made of balsa wood. That's also what I want Monfries for Sam Gray. It's about time we learned the lessons of playing small, physically weak players against them.

Geez I must have watched a different game. And the replay several times. I must have missed his involvement in other gaols.

One of monfries/Howard in to stretch them up forward

Wouldn't mind seeing Houston's trusted kicking down back return too

If seagulling for cheap goals was easy then Young would still be in the team.

the ah chee lovers this week are the same people who will be calling for his head next week, there are some people best not to get emotional with because in the end they will let you down,

Ah Chee smashed down the selection door by stringing together some excellent games in the SANFL, then did all that was asked of him when he made the AFL side. Dropping him for the Geelong game would be stupid and wrong.

Exactly. I'm no Ah Chee fanboy but you've gotta reward form.

Huh? He got into the team through good form. He's continued his good form once he got there, albeit a small sample size. He's there, he's performing to expectation. "Drop him".

I don't think he should be dropped. Kicking 3 goals is what you want from a small/medium forward. Should have come in a few games earlier though.

If you are going to reward form, how did White get selected against GWS? That doesn't make sense. Outside speed maybe.

Not sure how Monfries will get in the team. Still think port need another big man who can kick straight. Not sure about Trengrove up forward against a strong defensive side (like an Adelaide), and Westhoff is in a Westhoff world.

In his interview AhChee said he's been playing in the midfield in SANFL but brought in a s a forward for the GCS game. That being said , he did quite well I think.

Who knows what he will do next week, but that was not the issue. To say he was ordinary in China is just ridiculous! His attack at the ball, tackling, defense, link work ... you name it, were 2nd to none! I still have sweet memories of that around the back handpass to a running Wines, for a kick & goal ... just sublime!

I was very impressed!

Ordinary? ... Utter rubbish!
Can he repeat? ... Dunno!

Considering he earned his place via midfield work and the brains trust decided we would play him forward instead - I'd say he did pretty well.

I mean. Why pick a player who has spent the year in the middle to play up forward full time. I hate that about selections sometimes. Pick for a ****ing structure god damn it. Pick players that play a position instead of throwing them all over the shop.

Oh wait, our structure is Dixon and the seven dwarves, now the selection makes sense.

Carry on then.

Then why did it take so long for him to get into the team?

I didn't say Ken always gets it right. Bringing in White against GWS was definitely the wrong call.
However, Ah Chee had been given chances in the past and would often play a good game and then go missing. Presumably Ken wants him to be more consistent so for that reason I think he made the right call in letting him string some form together before bringing him in. Consistency is key for Arch. I reckon he'll only get a couple more chances and if he burns those then his time is up.

The White selection against GWS was a Ken masterclass decision alas Redden selection against Sydney in 2015.
