PORT ADELAIDE has a host of players pushing for selection for Saturday’s massive game against Geelong with a near full-strength list to choose from for the first time in a long while.

Where have we heard that before? If it happens well and good but I will not believe it until I see it. Beating top of the table Geelong in the AFL is one thing but if we have a near full list and cannot beat fellow cellar dwellers Centrals in the SANFL there is something really wrong at Alberton. Maybe that is stating the bleeding obvious?

Has Fantasia actually played a full game this season? I know he was selected for the Port Magpies but didn't make it out onto the ground.

Surely the sensible thing is to give Orazio a couple of full games at SANFL level just to prove he can get through a game. Then again common sense is not something we associate with Port selection of late.
Heard he played a full game of Monopoly and and dislocated his shoulder rolling the dice.

If the post in the preview thread is anything to go by, it looks like Bonner, Farrell and Georgiades are out, and Fantasia and Teakle are in.

I'd be bringing back Burgoyne too. Should have never been dropped for Bonner in the first place. I like Bonner and I think he's had a good season, but it was obvious he was back to his old ways of being afraid of getting hurt (with good reason after being smashed in the face - not criticising him for it, it's just how it is).

Teakle and Finlayson to share the ruck duties and run the Geelong rucks into the ground, Dixon to stay forward, Port to win.

Fantasia coming in would be what I call an acceptable risk.

Looks like Jones was in Melbourne for an AFLW/AFL photo shoot (unless that was yesterday), Bassett was indicating he would be back in.

"We know our best footy can beat Geelong ..."

What is this comment based on? There is very little evidence to suggest that our best footy is capable of beating anyone decent, let alone Geelong on their current hot streak.

You might as well say that you know that you can turn the MG parked in the carpark into a rocket that launches to the moon, that statement would have about as much credibility.

Our best footy can absolutely beat Geelong and any other team, but does Ken have the wherewithal to be able to select and coach the team to that "best". 10 years of results point to a no.

I don't need our best footy from rounds 1-5, just good footy, maybe win a couple, now we need all the luck in the world.

Yeah the supporters are gonna be so amped. Just jumping out of my skin with excitement to watch us win a minor round game. Yay!

Wait till they get going and start running away with it and the groans from the crowd are more audible than any cheering.

Lol.

West Coast and Adelaide both beat Geelong last year too, they just need to play their best footy and they'll be a chance!

Yeah, it just speaks to the psychological problems besetting the joint.

“our best footy can”, “our best footy will”, “our best footy”, “we know our best footy”.

North Melbourne beat Richmond, a team who Brilliant Mind declared was a “scary proposition”, with two and a half quarters of decent footy and dare.

This mentality Hinkley has ingrained into them that the team has to play absolutely out of their skins and approach each contest at 110% in order to beat any sort of quality opposition is an impossible request.

So is it any wonder they collapse when they’re not reaching said mythical level?

I don't understand why people are melting at the thought of bringing Fantasia into the AFL side. At his best he's clearly the team's best small forward. He has a nose for goal that is unmatched at the club and the final against Geelong last year showed just how damaging he can be with single digit disposals.

I understand that he's extremely injury prone. At the same time, the club is not in a position where they can just dilly dally for the next few weeks hoping they get their best team on the park fit and raring to go. Port need to more or less win every game if they are to make finals, so with that being the task ahead, it means there is a greater sense of urgency, so team selection will be a bit more of a gamble.

If this was round 5 you'd let Fantasia play SANFL a few games, but the club made its bed and now it has to deal with the ramifications of that 0-5 start.

Surely Bonner doesn't get dropped. Yes he had a shocker. However he is clearly part of our best 22. Him having a one-off bad day after not playing for several weeks isn't a reason to drop him, it is a reason to persist as we need him to get his touch back.

If everyone was fit and firing, then our selection should've been:

OUT: Mead, Farrell, Georgiadies, Burgoyne
IN: Fantasia, Duursma, Teakle, Dumont

EMG: Jones, Burgoyne, Motlop

Of that 4 though, 3 haven't played in weeks and 2 are very high injury risk selections.

So personally I think you've got Duursma & Motlop as the only worthy selections. So maybe Georgiades and Farrell survive the cut and Motlop plays as sub so Burgoyne can get a SANFL game in. Mead MUST be dropped though. He has a future, but he needs to go back and build some confidence.

We're like dead last in the league since 2016 vs top 4 sides.

I know it's media talk but holy hell I bet our players are 100% deluded in thinking they've done enough to be a top team and feel sorry for themselves in losses.
