So why is he still on the list? You can see where I am going with this...
I've been asking that for 2-3 years now. He's one of the main beneficiaries of our serial draft dodging over the last 5 years, partly caused by AFL decisions (changing draft age, GC/GWS concessions), partly our own incompetence (Tiprat penalties).

Yeah I feel very sorry for this kid. Hes not a part of our best 22 and never will be. They should stop rubbing his nose in it by picking him as the sub. Clearly yesterday there was not a player they could bring off that they considered Martin would provide a better option. In the end they decided to give Truck a rest.
AFC should have made the sub half way through the 3rd quarter when we had the game well in hand to give Martin a decent run rather than miserly minutes.

We do need to get smarter about the sub.

I'll need to hear more about this.
Bit of a long running board joke mate (I may be the only one who remembers it....)

Here is a post from Crow-Mo past that gives a hint
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/brodie-martin-will-be-a-gun.799673/page-2#post-20311290

To lift the class level a fraction, a current member of the AFC's recruiting team also alluded to the joke:

Watch everyone come running now to explain for you in greater detail ;)

This is what I would personally do:
Outs:
Martin (good opportunity to play youth in the spot he has been filling)
Rutten (purely a rest for the big Truck. Also a good opportunity to see how Talia and Hartigan work together.)
Reilly (simply better players to fill the spot at the moment)
Ins:
Lynch (owns that half forward flank, will also stretch Giants defence with height)
Grigg (comes back if fit)
Lyons (starts on the wing, time to give this kid an opportunity to shine)

I would like to see either Petrenko or Jaensch handed the green vest.

Im not really sure who makes the call on the sub. Doc seems to be in charge of the bench during the match.

The timing of the sub is Sando's call, but he usually has a quick group meeting in the box.

Brodie, accept it. You were absolute rubbish. I know you didn't come into the game until late, but you fumbled it every time you got your hands on it. You made Reilly look competent - and he was easily our worst player until you entered the fray. Watching you play was nothing but comedy relief. Seriously, if you ever play for the AFC again it will be an absolute travesty of justice.

but at least he's afl ready. what if injuries continue and the next player, even if talented with potential, isn't yet afl ready. brodie will have to play and it most certainly won't be a travesty of justice. don't forget 'afl ready >>> talent/potential.

I don't believe we can drop Rutten this week. If Mumford and Giles play, with Cameron and Patton up forward Rutten will need to take one of the resting ruckmen, Talia to Patton and then someone (Hartigan??) to Cameron. If you drop Rutten we become very exposed by either Patton, Cameron or Giles.

Would like to see Grigg or CEY in but can only really see Martin coming out, unless they play CEY for Reilly but i still doubt that. CEY could be a good sub with his speed, strength and height but the Sub position is a poisoned chalice.

Mumford is out for at least another week and although its only Monday rain has been forecast for Sunday arvo. Rutten may not need to play especially if Lynch comes in as Pods could play down back if needed

"AFL Ready" he is.. That much I will give you. I just hope our injury list doesn't get so long that he becomes a regular fixture in the side this year. That would be a very sure sign that the club is in more trouble than the early settlers.

Sort of game you'd rest Truck for ... the young Giants forwards would give him the runaround. Lynch definitely comes in.

Brodie Martin came into the game with 13 mins to go in the last quarter, what the hell do you d---s (VADER also) want him to do in that time. He had a run down the wing which lead to a goal, ye he may have fumbled his bounce but was good enough to recover and he had a shot on goal which was a point. The guy gets treated like crap by the coach so how the hell is he supposed to play with confidence cause he is always in and out and then sub . Why Sando didn't at least give him a quarter and a half when we were certainties to win the game is beyond me.

Easy....the guy makes Tambling look like a superstar!
If we did not have the injury list we had currently he would not even be considered in our Top 30 let alone 22.
Sando didn't want to play him any longer than he had to.
When Truck was spent and bordering on embarrassing himself further in an easy winning side he gave him the dignity he deserves as a champion of the club to have a rest and handed the keys to Spud Martin.
I don't care how long he had on the field...it was too long!

he may not be 'afl quality', but I'm confident that if he was given 3 full games in a row he would be a damn sight better than what he displayed in the 15 or so minutes he had in which to perform on sunday.

I wouldn't be so certain.

IMO Talia to Cameron

Rutten can take either Patton or Giles, especially given Patton has the turning cile of HMAS Washington

OUT:
Brown, laird, petrenko, martin, reilly are at the most risk

Martin will go obviously.

But if grigg is fit, we can't play all of brown, laird, jaensch, reilly. Jaensch and laird were spending time up forward on the weekend, which means there isn't room for all of them in the back line. Hard call to be made on one of them

won't be a hard call if it's made on reilly. will be hard for sando to make the call, but it's not actually be hard on reilly.

Out REILLY and MARTIN in LYNCH and GRIGG but if GRIGG needs another week then surely CEY deserves a run .
Reilly is f..kin woeful !

Mumford is out injured, but I would still be starting Truck on Patton!
