Apparently it was a comment made by Gary Ablett on The Footy Show in 2009. At that point Ablett was one of the best midfielders in the competition. He subsequently went on to win the Brownlow Medal that year. I'd suggest that you're barking up the wrong tree again - as you have with every single post you've made today (at least in this particular thread). Keep going, you're still at 0%.

Ablett did state this yes. But not in 2005 (and I never even suggested that this occurred in 2005). It was in either 08 or 09 once he had already established himself as one of the premier players in the comp.

Shirley played until 09.

But hey my opinion of him is so low that I really would not have cared if they had announced he had only just arrived in Melbourne in time for the game after walking over from Adelaide.

Sorry but you can quote stats and best and fairest results all you like but he was a very mediocre player given chance after chance.

Terrible player who would not have made any other top 6 side during that time.

3 Different AFL coaches who led teams to preliminary finals were wrong having Doughty best 22.

The stats are lying.

The B&F results that had him top 10 twice and top 5 three times are wrong.

The fact that he was in our best 10 players in 5 out of the 8 losing finals he played in is WRONG!

Quite frankly, the opinions of a bunch of nuffies on BF is meaningless anyway, given the testimonies of Judd & Ablett. In those players we have the two best midfielders of the last decade, both testifying to Shirley's abilities.

Not sure given that Sando didn't make changes for the Saints game and wanted to show faith in the ORIGINAL 22. Good payoff methinks.

Every player wants to play a final, its up to the medical staff to determine who is fit to play.
They made bad judgement and its their fault 100%.

He was fine to play. Good players, tough players, play with an injury. Petrenko obviously isn't one of them

Thompson played with groin problems all last year, lynch had an injection every game, and douglas is playing under extreme circumstances at the moment. Dangerfield is probably playing injured as well. It was a terrible performance by petrenko
