Not to be all conspiracy-theorist, but I wonder if the timing of Deluca's upgrade was around when Ballas supposedly told the club - "a while back" - that he wanted out?

I don't think Freo give 2 shits about Peel finals. They would probably rather the Freo players didn't play WAFL finals.

DeLuca is no chance going by Ross's presser, the reason I would imagine is that he simply isn't AFL quality.

That is my spin on this as well. He will be running around with Subiaco next season. His disposal is atrocious and that is under no pressure. Imagine in an AFL game.

As to him getting an upgrade. I thought it was around the time they had a massive injury list and he was named around that time as an emergency. They probably needed him just to make the squad numbers. RTB made a call at the time that he and Morabito are running out of time. I get the impression both have had their cards marked for better or worse. I agree with those advocating to give Mora a crack. In Rosco's words we've supported him for 6 years...well might as well see what he can offer and he played well for Peel last game but it was after some average returns. I hope he gets a crack against GWS.

I think we got a reality check with Hughes today.
I don't see the harm in exposing Nyhuis if nothing Else to show him what is required at the top level. But watching the presser it's not going to happen. Sounds like Ross struggling in managing expectation and team harmony when balancing weekly selection for the future versus rewarding effort.
Was slightly odd hearing the players have input re the rating criteria for selection...

I'd get tabs back in at clarkes expense now too.

I think we got a reality check with Hughes today.

Wasn't it the Adelaide away game earlier in the year where Hughes got exposed? From memory he lost his opponent (can't remember who) in a few contests. He fell for a couple of the oldest tricks in a forward's book.

I think Hughes and Collins will benefit from this baptism of fire long term but are playing at times out of their depth especially when the ball is coming their way so frequently. In reality they would toil away at Peel and come in with form. The benefit now is the exposure will fast track their development but cause short term pain.
