If the discussion is around a mid coming in as a forward, that has to be Poholke. He was better at that role than Dougie last week.in the SANFL.

Or play Greenwood as a forward. He is better than both of them up there.

If the discussion is a mid coming in as a forward, the only answer on the list is McHenry.

Super quick, super aggressive is pretty much the minimum requirements of a half forward flanker, and Jones has had a good block of games and needs SANFL time to start rounding things out.

Now that he is left in the team I would play Gallucci as a tagger . Apparently he is strong , he has speed, is low to ground and as he doesn’t get a lot of ball so following the oppositions best player with first intent to stop but also win his own ball by being led to the ball I believe is the perfect role for the Gooch. Essendon used a second game player on Cripps last week and the young guy got the better of him . Gibbs is too slow to effectively tag and he’s not a low to ground type player .

Constantly getting caught HTB in critical moments and dropping clutch marks is outside run now.

At least a holding the ball is better then a turnover at a critical time. That gives time for a defense to get back into position. Not ideal though.

It's one of the thing I expect will be in the next evolution of defensive play is teaching people to just cop the HTB if you don't have good forward options (not to excuse Atkins of that, but more spit balling).

True.

But Dougy will play some midfield minutes.

It may be time.for Murphy to have an SANFL stunt and McHnery debut if Murph has such a low disposal game as he did last week.

I am a Murph fan and see his value. But you cant survive with such low posession count over a number of weeks.

Seeing Murphy is primarily there as a defensive piece, low disposal games aren't super concerning, even long term (i.e. it's a bonus). Especially if someone else in that half forward group gets off the chain, well as much as you could get off the chain as a half forward...

That said, I'm more concerned by the lack of defensive numbers last week.

I find he gets caught holding the ball because he has no right foot. The taking on the opponent is his only option to try and get back on the left. If he had a right foot it would give him more time to dispose rather than having to take on the tackler to buy him time.

Have we really reached the stage with Atkins where we are saying "he got caught holding the ball, but at least it wasn't a worse turnover!"

I mean come on

Not to mention the complete lack of kicking ability when it comes to set shots.

The game in general is at that point.

From a purely defensive standpoint that is the better option, players are even taught it.

I was initially shocked by the Greenwood omission, but then when you sit down and analyse it, this is about team balance and also about who our opposition is this week. Also, having 43 out off 44 is a unique situation for any football club. Some very good footballers are bound to miss out. I pity West Adelaide tomorrow with at least 20 AFL boys running around. That could be very ugly.

McHenry has a huge tank but is he super quick?

What role is that? I always thought Gibbs was in trouble once Crouch was fit. I also think Greenwood will be back for Richmond. Other than Dougie, what changes would you make?
Where you come in as the sheriff on the changes thread talking down anyone whose critical of selection.

When you have that many players available, I think you need to stick with the incumbent players if they're performing, unless someone on the outside is an absolute must-play. Douglas, as much as I think he's underrated by people here, is not in that category. And Greenwood has performed pretty well.

I'm very disappointed to see him as an out.

No he's not, he's reasonably quick only but his agility and endurance are top shelf.

Interesting that 3 of the guys we drafted scored highly in the yoyo test (endurance), it would seem repeat efforts was high on our recruiting crew's agenda.

Yo-Yo test (endurance test that replaced the beep test at the 2017 AFL Draft Combine)
Ned McHenry - level 22.2
Sam Walsh - 22.1
Luke English - 22.1
Will Golds - 21.8
Xavier O'Halloran - 21.6
Oscar Brownless - 21.6
Will Hamill - 21.4
Ely Smith - 21.4
Jez McLennan - 21.4
Lachlan Sholl - 21.4
Fraser Turner - 21.4

'Pretty well' is probably overstating things a bit, hes been going OK but I wasnt shocked to see him out.

Its who is in thats shocked me a bit

I think he is quick. His endurance is well known and I think he was Rated No 1 in the Yo Yo testing.
He is just a tackling beast. Sniffs an opportunity and goes in hard
I don’t know if we have any SANFL highlights.
His recruitment vid is true to how he plays
