CEY 10 contested possessions (equal 2nd for Adelaide) and 5 clearances (also = 2nd).....stepped up big time in the 2nd half and with Greenwood was the reason why we got on top of the midfield and won the game.

But yeah, you're right...he got "smashed".
Don't forget the clutch goal in the last quarter.

Tag all 3 son!
Or knock them out. Get a reputation early. Helps with the rest of the career and doesnt really impact on anything but time in gym

Gibbs must now play as a full-time tagger, especially whenever one or more of Sloane / M Crouch / B Crouch / CEY / Greenwood are out of the side.

Gibbs must also be told that his place in the side solely depends on his intensity level and defensive pressure.

It was a great move to send him to Oliver in the 2nd half. It was a ridiculous move to have Oliver running around like an unregistered dog in the first half.

In addition to Sloane being an out through injury, Atkins, Mackay, Murphy and ROB are the only ones who could potentially be dropped after that. Seedsman wouldn’t want to put in another one like that, but he’s safe for now.

I’d absolutely keep ROB in. Sauce is finished at AFL level IMO.

Going to be tough to justify picking any of Atkins, Mackay or Murphy this week, but my gut feeling is that somehow only 1 of them gets dropped. Gallucci was also on that list prior to tonight but he was excellent and cemented his spot for the Giants game.

The selectors will have all of Jacobs, Douglas, Jones, McHenry, Hartigan and M Crouch in mind at the selection table. Possibly even Poholke after his 4 goals today, but he’s the least likely of any of them. Knight will not be in the frame after missing the SANFL game.

Despite the wishes of many posters on here, Stengle and Fogarty aren’t going to be in the conversation unless there’s an injury to Betts or Tex.

Updated prediction of what will happen...

In: M Crouch, Hartigan
Out: Sloane (inj), Mackay

Emg: Jacobs, Douglas, Mackay, Jones

As I stated in the OP, I think Atkins also should be replaced by McHenry, but I just don’t see the selectors going that way.

Douglas and Jacobs will both be well and truly in the frame for the Tigers game. I just feel like we’ll give them both at least one more at SANFL level. Personally, I wouldn’t be picking either of them ever again but that’s just me.

Just on Douglas, he is only effective as a full-time mid. He won’t play as a full-time mid at AFL level. Therefore don’t pick him to play some ridiculous half forward role that he’s shit at. Ditto for Poholke. It’s just ridiculous to expect these guys to come in and play a role they have literally never been any good at, on the back of good form in a completely different role.

The above is another reason why I think McHenry should debut. He has proven as a junior that he can play the pressure forward role just as well as a midfield role. Get him in!

Out: Sloane inj Atkins Mackay Walker Murphy

Why the **** would we return to a cooked 32 year old midfielder? He's DONE. Move on

Please note, Atkins fans/haters:

@1.20 left to play, Atkins dropped a chest mark, by getting his hands into a strange position, with absolutely no contact from any Melbourne player. My take is he heard footsteps and braced himself for what he seems to dread --- getting hit. This is one reason why people want him dropped.
And yet ...
Not long before that, with 2.05 to play, he dished out a lovely handball to CEY. This is one reason why people want to retain him.
His good is good, but his bad is worse than terrible and very often costly (oppo goals, breaks forward momentum by kicking to oppo, or ootf). Weighing up the former against the latter, good vs terrible, don't we have ANYONE in the SANFL who can do better than that?

That is disgraceful vision from Atkins and the crows. 2 minutes left and crows are playing for the game with a lead and they turn it over multiple times, 2 of which were because of Atkins. Then there were Melbourne players free everywhere and weed marked the ball because all the defenders misjudged it, that doesn't happen at a good club when the game is on the line. I don't know what has happened since 2017 but it's not ****ing good enough.

Do we use Gibbs head to head with Coniglio or Kelly? A pre-emptive strike?
Gibbs is a pretty expensive tagger in terms of what he cost us. Having said that, it makes sense and he's not doing much else anyway. A tagging role means he doesn't have leeway to make decisions about when to act defensively. He has to.

And on the flipside, when he does win it he can use it well. When I saw him tagging Oliver I thought that's something I never considered but he does make sense in that role.

I also think with the 666 rules that a tagger is the go.

He wasn't all that impressive in the SANFL. Sauce was BOG and looked like a new man: him replacing ROB will be the big melt this week.

Sauce’s goals are irrelevant, he wouldn’t get close when up against a 194cm genuine defender AFL defender. What matters is how he moved around the ground and whether he was able to leave the ground when rucking and be useful in the stoppages. I watched a bit before afternoon napping from an early start and he looked to be moving really well. I’m a big fan of ROB and have probably been Sauce’s number 1 critic, but I won’t melt if it happens this week as long as Sauce is rejuvenated and over the injuries he said he’d been carrying for a while.

We dropped Gibbs after a similarly terrible 27 possession game against Geelong earlier in the year.

I’m going to say Atkins v Dees was a worse overall game than Gibbs v Cats too.

Difference is that Rat covers the ground and is often deep in defence helping extract from near the goal square. Gibbs issue is he doesn’t defensively run to positions that he’s meant to.

No way are we dropping Murphy.

We do that we're basically saying "Hey the only bloke who is prepared to smash in is ****! You guys just stand there and watch the opposition jump at it and get the footy. That's what we want! Tally ho chaps!".

FFS. Murph was the reason for 2 of the spilled goals in Q4. FFS.
Please. "Tries hard" doesn't keep your place. McHenry is a fiercer tackler, and has some actual footskills and ability to get the ball.

IN: M Crouch, Hartigan, McHenry
OUT: Sloane, Atkins, Mackay/Seedsman (depending on Seed fitness)

I’ll be furious if Seed is dropped for fitness after playing 2 games while we have fit and in form players in the 2s. He probably will be because they can’t keep Mackay in without dropping him and losing Sloane makes him even more important.

Mackay must go and sadly Sloane through injury. Our defence is better with Hartigan, so he should return but I wouldn’t mind trying without him but with a decent replacement player back there instead of a spud. We might be able to get more better. Murphy has been really poor the last 2 weeks and only had 2-3 weeks of good, so I think he can go for now.

Out - Sloane, Mackay, Murphy
In - Crouch, Harto, McHenry

I won’t be surprised to see any or all of Dougie, Otto and Sauce.

out:
atkins - don't care about stats, he was dreadful and his impact was very minimal. also he is softer than luke jericho and had a bad footsteps moment late in the game
rob - again he may have had a few hitouts but was destroyed by gawn and it showed in our lack of clearances. he did pick up towards the end which helped us win a few clearances late but I think he needs a rest.
mackay - absolutely woeful. im so sick of this career best year shit, he is dishing up 15 to 20 possesion games with no impact he got ragdolled over and over.

in:
mcrouch
jacobs
mchenry

wait and see with sloane. i think we are still way to contested ball heavy but CEY and greenwood are hard to drop. maybe time to push smith and or milera up to a wing. get some polish on the ball instead of sando footy.
