The drums are beating...... Sauce will return this week

Even I will melt if/when we do that.

You might as well start melting now to spread the effect. It was obvious after the SANFL that he had done everything required to get a recall: BOG. Actually, a bit hard to argue against compared with Jenkins' and Gibbs' SANFL efforts under similar circumstances.

Out: Atkins, Mackay In: Crouch, Jones

Sauce just doesn’t fit anymore, and quite frankly I’m sick of his plodder ruck style of gameplay.

Gawn played well, but he didn’t obliterate ROB like he has Sauce on at least one occasion. ROB is the future, we need to persist, his selection would be a huge uptick in setting the club in the right direction.

Agree. Jacob's and Douglas not picked means the club is moving in the right direction.

A couple of observations

Seedsman looked cooked, couldn’t raise a gallop let alone sprint, brought back too early and played out of position imo. Should be half back where McKay was played. Needs more rest?

Also Knight has looked lost this season, yet Crows have struggled to contain key mids. Now other players are being used as taggers. Did the coaches miss a trick? as Knight has done the job on Jelwood and done it well, no mean feat. Not sure why he hasn’t been used in that capacity this season.

GWS have Kelly and Cogs, Crows would be mad not to tag one of them from the bell.

With nearly a full list I’d hate to see Crows bring back Sloane or Matt Crouch too early. I’d rather see them rest and have them playing for the remainder of the season. Even Betts looked in some discomfort.

Oh and a lot has been written about Atkins, but the most damning stat for me is that he is 27th in average tackles per game this season, out of 31 Crows players, and only Hartigan sits below him with more than 2 games. Sure he is on the wing, but he needs to be cutting off opposition on the outside as well. I watched him drop off his player to dawdle into space between him and a separate opponent, not make the contest or man the mark, then wait 10 seconds before pursuing his man again at a jog while the guy runs off with the ball.

Surely Jones/McHenry/McAdam could be used in this position, or even move Murphy up. Or play Douglas. Anyone that apples physical pressure. May as well have held on to Henderson the way he currently plays.

All sound observations. My worry is the club plays injured players this game which will be a recipe for disaster imo. Reckon the crows will tag Coniglio with Gibbs. Looks like Sloane will miss and possibly Betts as he was getting work done on him throughout the Melb game. I would get the likes of Mchenry, Stengle and possibly Davis instead of Betts (if injured), Murphy(omit) and Atkins(omit) to see what they can do against the best team currently. Would also bring in MCrouch if fit (for sloane if injured) and Hartigan for Mackay.

50/50 generally means 2 weeks from afc. Never heard of a hammy playing the following week. Generally 2 and add a week.
Hasn’t happened since......T Shirt Tommy last week?

If a player has hamstring “awareness” we are now super cautious. In the old days (2018) we would roll the dice and the player would miss 4-5 weeks. Given the 5 day break I expect that we will give him this week off and try to get him up for the Richmond match

We are taking the piss if we select Jacobs. Would be a complete farce. He didn’t even deserve selection before his injury for crying out loud. What ROB has produced over the last 7 weeks or so has far outweighed anything that Jacobs could ever dream of doing at this stage of his career.

Even Douglas would be a far more understandable selection than Sauce, as there are actually players that he could potentially replace that don’t really deserve to be selected.

It’s quite unbelievable to me that we haven’t given McHenry a debut yet, and with Sloane out, and all 3 of Murphy, Atkins and Mackay coming off absolute stinkers, this is the week I would pull that trigger. Tell the kid he’ll only get picked the following week if he gets 8 tackles or more. Watch what happens.

The other no-brainer is bringing back Hartigan. He simply must play on one of Cameron, Himmelberg or Finlayson. End of story. The tactical move to dump him for Mackay 90 mins before the bounce on the weekend almost cost us the game, as Mackay was very close to worst on ground, and not only that, it ruined Keath’s night as he wasn’t able to play the loose defender role he’s become accustomed to playing so well as a direct result of this very odd structural change.

Must not risk Sloane. Must drop Mackay for Hartigan. Hopefully Crouch is ok. Must not bring in Sauce. Should drop one of Atkins or Murphy. They are the non-negotiables this week.

Bringing in McHenry would be the cherry on top.

As usual, we’ll do something completely bizarre instead.

We need to consider a rest for ROB but I hope it isn't this game.

The big selection this week is the slow mid beast and outsiders.
1) can we still go with CEY and Greenwood? Well given Mcrouch and Sloane still doubtful you would want them in there with Gooch or Jobes adding in. Gibbs will be in a run with role. But it still doesn't feel right.
Best midfield would be Gibbs, Brouch and 1 of CEY/Hugh with Knight tagging and Gooch pinch hitting.
2) outside runners we have Seeds, Mackay and Atkins, that 1 too many. I would actually prefer to see Seeds and Milera with Atkins relieving. I would like to see Macpherson or Scholl in for that HB role allowing Milera in a more attacking role

Its called the bye.

I'd love to see us with two ruckmen, even if GWS only run with one.

In the Bris game we had Crouch out for part of the game and against Melb we had sloane out and we ran close in both games and both teams are good running teams. Yet we have Tex, Jenkins, Sauce earlier in the year and ROB barely able to make contests and jump for the ball because they're that blown out. Run two friggin ruckman, Sauce and ROB, three if you count Jenkins, get rid of one mid (which we have mids crashing in to each other at the contest anyway), rotate the rucks to spend some time up forward and watch the marks we take skyrocket and the taps and hit outs skyrocket too.

Did you see how easily Melbourne cut us up out of our 50 and through the middle. This is what happens when we have Lynch and JJ playing together with Tex up forward as well. Getting rid of a mid in favour of another pressureless tall would be an enormous act of stupidity. You can’t out-height the opposition to victory. The game is about running and pressure.

His goals need to be ignored from his performance. We know that his forward skills don’t translate to more than a goal every few games at AFL level. He needed to dominate the ruck over the entire game to prove his fitness. We’ve seen how bad Seed has been in terms of being up to AFL fitness and ruck is harder due to the amount of anaerobic work that is required. Problem is that once he’s in despite how putrid he might be, he won’t be out without serious injury. Let’s hope he’s in better nick than he has been over the last 2 season.

Do we play Mrouch if not 100% ? What if a few of the players are not 100%? Rumours of a few players carrying injuries.

I guess where I am going with this is in regards to being cherry ripe for a MUST WIN and more winnable game against the Tigers in just 5 days time. Fortunately we have back to back home games.

Will Pyke make adjustments for this with his team selections this week and next taking note we have the bye after Richmond? If Mrouch injury is far worse do we keep him wrapped till the Cats game, maybe with Sloane as well?

Not much has been mentioned of this especially given that the Tigers have a 6 day break. While we played the Cats earlier in the year off the same break, they are an extremely well drilled and trained team.

I told you earlier in the year that Sauce had a gold pass for 2019.
Jenkins didn't get picked after an even better performance and his incumbent struggling.

This would be levels above melting

If you think Knight stopped Selwood then good on you, but he still had near enough to 30 touches.

An in form Knight would have his hands full with those guys, an out of form Knight would have his career ended.

Yep Sauce did smash the last placed SANFL team.

I reckon he only played half the game.

Did he even ruck?

I wasn’t at the game but 5 goals looks like they sat him up forward the entire game.

He can’t be in ruck duties condition surely. Besides that ROB’s been holding his own in ruck and his around the ground game looked to be improving to me.
