I am somewhat surprised that no one has yet bought up what I think will be a the biggest significant issue this weekend is our players running out of gas after HT, the conditions in Darwin were hot and humid and the team played with a rotation down for most of the 2nd half.

It wouldnt surprise me for us to have a good first half, only to be completely rolled in the 2nd.

I guess time will tell.

Not saying I agree with it as I think Dougy is near the end of his career but I think it would be on the basis that he has credits based on his performance over many years than these younger kids do (excluding Gibbs here)

I feel Hugh Greenwood has not been as effective since the showdown, and performance has suffered as a result of the pounding he took a few weeks in a row, a freshen up if possible (no late out) will only help. As for the other changes they make sense to me and show some clear intent at selection, about time we were not afraid of picking teams that at least try to suit the opposition, unlike in previous seasons!

With all 3 of M Crouch, CEY and Greenwood in the side:

With 1 or more of those 3 missing from the side:

Yep, too top heavy with all 3 of them, how could we even consider such a thing.

Those stats make the dropping of Greenwood even more mystifying, unless they're giving him a 'managed' rest until post-bye ...? Poor timing if they are imo, makes no sense.
My guess is that Sloane won't be risked and Greenwood plays.

Huh? Pyke is not going anywhere. He is signed up until the end of the 2021 season.

That's 2.5 years left on a three year extension!!

Really? How do we know that? Well if true he is grave danger.

I like Pyke as a coach, but it's really hard to look past his failings in the time he has been with us. He started in very strange circumstances but even taking that into account I have never really felt that the systems and the playing group were 100% "his".

The question is would the replacement be able to put his stamp on from day 1? Whoever comes in would have to be an experienced person that had been in the caper for some time, in a different system, be a possibility of moving out of the current role ... and had shown something at the top level.

Current Coaches
John Longmire
Ross Lyon
Luke Beveridge

Former Coaches
Brad Scott
Brett Ratten

Pyke has a better record in finals and regular season games than ALL of those guys except John Longmire ... but I'd be ok with any of them, even Brad Scott. They all have a strong ethic and a strong personality (as does Pyke). I expect Adelaide is a pretty good post to get, very stable off the field / financially ... huge club with everything on tap for the coach is he/she needs it.

I guess ultimately, can Pyke get a premiership in the next few years? If not, find someone who can.

If Sloane misses, it will be Gibbs, not Greenwood, not Mackay who comes in to the side. Bookmark it.

In addition, bookmark Greenwood to not play against Richmond (unless an injury to an inside mid opens the door for him), thus proving this “he can’t play 3 AFL games in 12 days so we’re managing him” theory to be completely false.

Thats my concern as well.

GWS have had 2 easy kills in the last 2 weeks, we faded badly against WC after a tough Brisbane game plus a trip to Darwin where we know multiple players lost large amounts of weight.

I think you will find that is just for the Sunday games where the squad of 25 announced Thursday night is trimmed to 22 somewhere around 4.00pm Friday. For the Saturday games only 22 are announced on Thursday night so no trimming needed unless an unexpected injury occurs or a last minute shuffle is needed.

Yep, and you can't blame them for wanting out.

Footy careers are short, SOME playera would be annoyed with our bullshit selection practices.
